House of Cards (2013–2018)

Nothing without Spacey

House of Cards Seasons 1-5 was one of the best series ever produced however season 6 was utterly ridiculous, the decent writers either walked out due to the network punitive action towards Spacey or they wrote nonsense in protest.

One has to question on what basis does any employer or other employees believe that they have the right to decide guilt and administer punishment of another employee regarding any issue outside of the actual field of employment?

Keven Spacey is one of the greatest actors of our age and for his own industry to treat him like a leper is a serious form of abuse in itself, utterly appalling example of political correctness gone way to far. We have institutions in place for investigating allegations, courts to decide guilt and dispense justice these are NOT functions that should be performed by self appointed kangaroo courts in the workplace or social media.

As the saying goes, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Robin Wright is a great actress and the chemistry between her and Kevin Spacey was incredible viewing but sadly the show deteriorated into a farce once that chemistry was lost and the show turned into some kind of perverse feminist activism vehicle. Such a shame.

The Bastard Executioner 2.0

Sadly another flop from Kurt

After a failed attempt at an English medieval period piece Kurt quickly pivoted back to what was working for him previously but sadly this pile of dross is no Sons of Anarchy its more akin to the boring and cheesy storyline in the Bastard Executioner.

There are some problems with miscasting, some characters are not believable in their roles and unlike the Sons of Anarchy most of the characters are just not interesting enough to become invested in.

The storyline is weak, cheesy and feels thrown together with little regard for the intelligence of the viewer, some scenes are pointless and feel as if they exist just to create a set up for some predetermined action or violence. A Vomit thrown in completely out of context as if it was just a new cinematic toy to play with and made the character appear ridiculous.

After watching 9 episodes I find myself wondering why the hell am I still watching this pile of manure, for no other reason than the nostalgia of Sons of Anarchy and the vain hope that somehow this may morph into something that is actually entertaining, I has not.

This is yet another production being propped up with fake glowing reviews and it is such a shame that it is now zero for 2 for Kurt, maybe the next show will turn things around for him - please try harder Kurt.

Loving Pablo (2017)

Unwatchable

Javier Bardem is almost completely incoherent throughout most of the movie, and just sounds like someone who is drunk and has a mouthful of marbles.

All around us were people who kept saying what did he say? I can understand him is he speaking English?

Given the amount of money that actors are paid to portray a role these days they should have it should be written into their contract that there is a requirement for their dialogue to be delivered in a way that is clear and legible. If this is your craft and people cannot understand you then high time to take some elocution classes or look for another occupation.

Like most reviews have stated this offering pales into comparison to the Narcos series, if you really must watch it then wait for a voice overdubbing version or look for full subtitles or you will be wasting your time.

1/10 because it wont let me vote zero.

Urge (2016)

Engaging and Disturbing

I was quite surprised to see a pretentious self righteous review for this movie and after having watched it I can only conclude that the reviewer must have been confused about what they were reviewing.

The movie centers around the premise of the hedonistic lifestyle of a wealthy individual Neil (Danny Masterson) who takes pleasure in indulging himself and his group of friends with the best experiences that money can buy.

An excursion to a luxury home on island includes a trip to an exotic night club that has a sexy stylized feel similar to attending a performance art show on steroids. The opportunity to try a designer drug like no other presents itself at the club and Neil and has posse have an experience like no other the only catch is they are told they can only take it once, but told why.

The next day they are keen to recreate the experience and its then that everything starts to unravel.

The movie does not set out to preach about the dangers of drugs and it is not the theme yet you cant help but recognize the parallels between the decent into psychosis that some are unfortunate enough to experience with recreational drug use and the aberrant behavior of those taking URGE.

The ending has a interesting twist and after the final credits a short scene sets up the possibility of a follow up movie.

This movie is both engaging and disturbing in the same way as a car crash can be, you know people are being harmed but you cant help but keep watching out of macabre curiosity.

A solid 7/10 anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get over themselves.

Star-Crossed (2014)

An insult to Sci-Fi

This show is complete and utter garbage.

Aliens that can only be differentiated because they arrive wearing sky blue pyjamas and henna tattoos on their faces, seriously?

After the first two minutes I could tell that little to no effort was going to be put into the differentiation of 'alien'.

After 10 minutes I could tell the storyline was a poorly veiled attempt to milk the audiences emotions towards bigotry and discrimination, to its credit 'District 9' already achieved that with the burden of aliens that looked like prawns rather than using some pretty faces that look like they come from the cast of glee.

This just another poorly written teen soapy and they have the audacity to try and pass it off as Sci-Fi. If you must produce this sort of drivel then please do us a favour and have the courtesy to stay away to the Sci-Fi genre.
