Actually, I'll continue. I'm a big fan of Disney films. And Tim Burton films.
I tend to like movies that are in English.. 'cause.. well, it's my first languauge. But I like some foreign films ESPECIALLY two of my very favorite movies, La Vita e bella & A Very Long Enagagement.
I watch a lot of movies. A lot of the time.
This is so uninformative, so let me back up. Hello, fellow IMDb-ers. my name is Brittani. I'm a 20-year-old from Nova Scotia, Canada.
I work at the local Empire Theatres Studio 10, and have for the past 2+ years. My life consists of doing theatre checks and sweeping popcorn. And of course, telling people to get their feet off the seats!
I'm open-minded, left-winged, etc. I'm from Canada so I can't be like, "oH noEZzz RepublicAnss arE evilZ lULS!!" (and I wouldn't be even if I were from the US, typing like that makes my brain melt), but let's just say I'm no fan of the Bush administration. I hate homophobia. I'm an atheist and I firmly believe religion just causes hate and forces wars.
I consider myself well-read, well-versed, and well-spoken, so I can't tolerate chatspeak, abbreviations, and tHIs kiND oF tYpiNg! So please.. don't contact me if you do that.

Smokin' Aces (2006)
I actually loved this, very surprised by the negative comments!
Now, first of all: I am 18 years old, female, and what one may call a "movie snob". I'm all about movies that are on the top 250, and would rarely see a movie like Smokin' Aces. But, as it happens, I work at the local theatre and don't have to pay for movies, so I figured, "Why not?", thinking that if it was terrible, at least I could have a few laughs about it.
I went into Smokin' Aces with low expectations and came out extremely impressed! I thought it was an excellent action movie, and only found myself bored once or twice. Some scenes were downright hilarious, and the all-out bloodbaths that occur were exciting and occasionally had me cringing. Contrary to the majority of reviewers, I saw nothing wrong with the ending; in fact, I thought it was great! I agree that you need to be paying attention the entire time or you may miss some key points of the plot. The second time I saw it with a different friend than I had the first time and we missed the first ten minutes, leaving her completely lost through the rest of the film.
Overall, if you like action movies - see Smokin' Aces. It's an extremely entertaining flick, with fun characters, a great plot, and tons of laughs as well as action!
Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
Cried like a baby, Amazing film.
About 10 years ago, when I was 8-years-old, a schoolteacher friend of my mother's gave me a book to read, and that book was Bridge to Terabithia. I was absolutely enthralled by the novel, and found myself crying at the end, the first time a work of fiction had made me cry. The magic and wonder of the book stuck with me the past decade, so you can imagine my excitement when I found out it was being turned into a movie!
I went in with high expectations and was not in any way disappointed. The movie version of Bridge was incredibly true to the book, and the young actors portraying Leslie and Jess did a fantastic job. One of my favorite parts was Zooey Deschenal as the music teacher, the way she got the kids singing those songs was fabulous, those scenes were my favorites. They were so well done, with the children looking like they truly cared about what they were singing, putting all their feeling into it.
The most powerful aspect of the film was the portrayal of the imagination children possess. My friends and I found ourselves crying when Jess finally "kept his mind wide open" as Leslie suggested, and saw Terabithia for the first time. It broke my heart to realize that, at 18, I no longer possess the imagination and creativity that Jess and Leslie did at their young age.
Terabithia was shown as the perfect escape mechanism for the two kids, to get away from their bullies and family troubles. It was amazing how their fantasy world, where they were a brave King and Queen, gave them the courage to stand up to their bullies.
The moment Jess found out he was going to the museum with his teacher, I broke down, because I knew what was coming. When Jess' father breaks the new of Leslie's death, your heart all but breaks. The scenes that follow can be very difficult to watch, particularly when the kids are next shown in music class, singing a mournful sort of tune very sadly, Jess with his head on his desk, fighting back tears.
The movies wraps up beautifully with Jess bringing his ever-present little sister Maybel to Terabithia, having finally built a bridge into he and Leslie's secret kingdom. He tells her she is the princess, and that her subjects, the Terabithians, were all very excited to see her.
The whole movie was so powerful, and has a devastating effect on those of us who miss the innocence of childhood, when all one needed to have a good time was the head on their shoulders.
10 out of 10.
The Lake House (2006)
Oh Keanu Reeves, You've Done It Again.
First of all, let me say that I was ridiculously excited for this movie when I saw the trailer a few months ago. This is a bad thing, because I got my hopes up.
"The Lake House" is a horrible movie. Not even Sandra Bullock, who I consider one of the most amazing and talented actresses of all-time, could save it. It's slow, it feels about four hours long, and the ending is terrible. No matter how "magical" a movie is, you NEED to explain why things work like they do. No explanation is given to WHY they are able to communicate between two different times. Also, the ending (which I won't give away) - YOU can't change something if it already happened and just expect the whole world to change accordingly when you are ALREADY in the future. Had Kate gone back in time, I could understand it. But she stayed where she was and managed to change things.
Right... how does that work, exactly?
Now, plot holes aside, I have another complaint - Keanu Reeves. That man just continues to prove one thing to the world: HE CAN NOT ACT. The best part of the movie for me was the many opportunities my friends and I had to laugh at him incessantly.
I'll stop this now. Please don't see this movie, I beg of you.
Unless, like me, you work at the theatre and don't have to pay. If I had had to pay, I'd be asking for my money back.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
I am ridiculously impressed with this movie! Just got back from the theater, still amazed, but not speechless, so read on!
I have been anticipating the release of this movie since I first heard about it, over a year ago, both being a huge fan of Tim Burton, and the amazing Mr. Depp. I had counted down the months, weeks, days, and then hours till I got to see it, pumping myself up in the extreme, and I have NOT been disappointed!! Tim Burton's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is easily one of the best films I've ever seen.It was humorous, touching, and of course, as with many Burton films, very strange at parts.
The Oompa-loompas were all played by one man, the same who played Mr. Soggybottom in Big Fish. These Loompas have the singing roles after each child's disappearance, just like in the 70's version, but this time they use the lyrics that were in the book. Danny Elfman provides all the voice talent, and is amazing as usual.
The kids are also excellent portrayals of the children described in the book. Each child nailed his or her part perfectly. Of course, Freddie Highmore as Charlie is particularly delightful, since he's so adorable and charming. I especially liked Violet Beauregarde's portrayal, it seemed so dead on as what I envisioned in the book when I read it when I was younger.
Another amazing aspect of this movie was the humour. 50%of the time, I was in stitches from laughing so hard. This is by far the funniest Tim Burton film EVER. This version of "Charlie..." is 100 times funnier than the 70's version. And almost all the humour is family-friendly.
The visuals were stunning, it's a real treat for the eyes. So much colour! Everything was really surreal looking, it was beautiful. I loved the camera angles. Also, the Bucket's house is pretty interesting, still can't figure how it was standing.
And I can't finish this comment without commending the AMAZING performance by Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. He played such an eccentric, immature, and sometimes distant version of the chocolatier, quite different from that of Gene Wilder's Wonka in the original. I think it was a really great thing that he didn't try to play the character the same way, because Wilder's portrayal would have been VERY hard to match.
Anyway, yes, I must stop rambling, just SEE THE MOVIE!! You will NOT regret it!!
Vincent (1982)
Fantastic short film by the amazing genius we call Tim Burton!
I had heard so much about this short film, being a huge Tim Burton fan, but I never saw it until just recently, when i saw 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' Special Edition DVD. I was amazed. I love the animation, and it was so perfect and appropriate to have it narrated by Vincent Price! Before seeing it, I really hadn't had any idea as to what it was about, because I wouldn't allow anyone to tell me. I thought it had just the right amount of creepiness. I love how it played out, and how it rhymed. Tim' poetry is some of the best out there. Even though this film's about 23 years old, I think he should do some sort of.. follow-up. All in all, amazing poetry, animation, narration, and film! Fantastic!
