Ghost Game (2004)
Don't bother!
Spoiler Alert.. (kinda) Before I started my blog I had a rule when watching a movie. I would give the movie about half hour to prove itself, especially a horror movie with crappy production value, acting and story. But since doing my blog I finish every movie to the end.
Damn, it was hard finishing this movie. Every fiber of my being yelled TURN IT OFF!
The only half way compliment I can give this flick is a decent soundtrack.
A group of friends drive to a remote cabin in the woods (of course) when they open up a game they find. Once they start playing, ghosts of witches from the 80′s start killing them.
Don't waste your time!
The Walking Dead (2010)
Way to go AMC!
Spoiler Alert.. Who knew a TV show about zombies could be so amazing?!?!
It begins with a small town sheriff in a coma at the hospital and wakes up to find the building in complete chaos. There are no people around and everything looks like a tornado had come through. He finds his way out. To his surprise the whole town is acting crazy because zombies are out eating everyone.
The story continues with him finding other people and as a group they try to survive.
This series isn't a horror show about zombies. It's a suspenseful drama with zombies in it. I say that because the characters have their own stories and the dialog is very well written. They made it so realistic you often forget the word "zombie".
On the horror side of things, the makeup and special effects will blow you away (especially for TV). These zombies are among the scariest I've ever seen. Way to go AMC!
I Sell the Dead (2008)
Fun and Odd
Spoiler Alert.. What a wonderfully fun very odd film! I'm not sure where to start..
Set in the 1800′s (I think, it really didn't say) our story begins with a unfortunate man getting beheaded while his partner in crime is waiting for his turn. During the wait, he tells his story.
He was a grave robber. At first it was an innocent endeavor to earn some money but as time went on he starts to encounter unusual corpses.
This movie has it all, vampires, aliens and zombies..oh my!
This is a fun movie for teens and adults (no younger kids), it really does have it's scary moments.
American Mary (2012)
An interesting mess
What a mess of a movie! It had so much potential too, delving into the subculture of extreme body modification and combining that with anything horror ..seems brilliant! The truth is, it was just a mess.
There were way too many jumps or assumptions in the story telling. One minute our main character, a medical student, is acting a certain way and the next minute she is acting completely different. We don't see that transition. When a movie does this too many times, it ends up being a mess of confusion.
The only reason this film isn't on my skip it page is that the subject is interesting.
BTW, the fetish club in the movie isn't like any fetish club in real life (I've been to many of them). This one portrayed was so boring and lame, making it more realistic could have helped a little.
A Darker Reality (2008)
Disturbing..love it!
Some movies are just down right disturbing. The imagery is so dark it sticks with you and not easily forgotten. This is one of those movies. Daniel Baldwin does a decent job playing the sadistic killer. The only reason I didn't give this movie higher marks was the acting by the cop and forensics lady, everyone else's acting was pretty good. It's odd to just have a couple of bad actors
either they are all good or all bad. Anyway, these two were bad enough to stick out.
The story itself, a sick killer who kidnaps, tortures and kills woman isn't as clichéd as it sounds. The imagery and torture is very intimate, in some scenes it felt as if your right there in the same room. Not many movies can boast such a quality.
If you got a strong stomach and can handle torture movies, I recommend this one!
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
Going on my favorites list!
The scariest part of this movie is that Henry and Otis , our main characters, were the real life serial killers Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis O'Toole.
I loved this film! Michael Rooker reminded me of Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain. Each character does a fantastic job at being both normal and creepy, especially Rooker. The movie told the story well, although I wished they would have spent more time on Henry and Becky. In real life their relationship was quite complicated. Since real life Henry was a pathological liar, we don't know how many people he really killed but the movie doesn't make it about numbers yet shows how brutal he really was.
Awesome movie.. it's going on my favorite's list!
The Woman (2011)
A solid OK
Spoiler Alert.. I loved the quirky vibe this movie gave off. It's an original plot and the way the characters were portrayed as an all American family "except for a couple of things" was brilliant! However, too many questions left unanswered and good hell, I really hate that.
The makers of this movie either edited the crap out of it, taking out important parts that linked things together or didn't make important links important to begin with. Who's the baby daddy? Why did they keep dogs? It didn't flow as well as it could because of the confusion. I get that they wanted us (the audience) to jump to our own conclusions and let our imagination go where ever, but a good movie will do that with more "no essential" elements to a film.
Overall though, I didn't regret watching this movie. I thought it was a solid OK.
