Rim of the World (2019)
Disappointing garbage
3 stars for the visuals.
Was hoping for a Spielberg type scifi movie. Ended up being an teen Independence Day garbage movie filled up with stereotypes to the brim.
I do enjoy stereotypes sometimes, when it's done right, but this was really bad. Nerdy asocial ginger white kid, black rich kid gangster with a foul mouth, stiff chinese army-esque asian girl and stupid but handsome latin american kid. It started off promising but soon turned into a cringe fiesta that I had a hard time actually watching through.
The effects are pretty good, the kids acting do well but can't do much about the garbage script they were given.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
I feel rather empty
The series has been with me for almost a decade, it's has his ups and downs but in general it's been AB amazing Journey. The last season really wants the series to end and it shows. The narration is suffering, the cinematics are fantastic.
I watched the final episode and can say I feel nothing but empty. 8 seasons, 8 years of production and the ending simply left me feeling empty and unsatified. The characters means nothing to me, 2 seasons ago I was more invested in their story than my own. I couldn't care less about the winner because of the writing making them feel unnatural and like strangers, they could for all I know be faceless men in the shape of our heroes.
I hope there's more to GoT. A rewriting of some sort perhaps so that we can get a real closure that leaves us with feelings no matter the ending.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Not the worst, not close to to best
Not the worst, not close to to best. I went to the theater hyped up as the trailer really gave me that old school Star Wars feeling. Little did I know this was to become my disappointment of the year by far.
First off I'd like to start with the great: The atmosphere was amazing. The sound, the visuals and the scenery was great. Han Solo, Chewie, Leia and Luke Skywalkers appearance.
The bad: Cheesy script. The occasional horrible acting. Finn. The constant and forced throwbacks to the first episodes was too much. The similarities between this movie and the earlier ones, a third "deathstar", a robot carrying something of utmost importance etc. Rey's instant ability to not only fire a blaster but out-skill Stormtrooper being trained since birth and her ability to force persuade, fetch light sabers and actually beat a Sith (who supposedly massacred a whole lot of aspiring Jedis) without greater hassle. Lack of credibility and feeling during X-wing battles, Poe destroying 10 Tie-fighters in 5 seconds does not make this movie any better.
The worst of this movie is Boyega's Finn. Absolutely horrible.
Left the cinema with a heavy heart, woke up the day after disliking this movie even more. I have no idea how it manages staying above 8 IMDb score.
Sisily 2km (2004)
Hilarious, weird and totally worth seeing!
I recently noticed a broad addition of korean movies in the Netflix library and decided to watch this one (along with The Yellow Sea and The Chaser).
I started watching it expecting it to be another one of those korean psychological horror movies but I soon had a change of mind as this movie took a comedy-turn for the best.
A cheesy and hilarious script, stereotypical character personalities and many huge turn of events. Don't expect to be scared out of your mind, it does have a few fairly surprising moments but in general this movie got a huge focus on comedy.
I loved it!
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
A horrible movie from beginning to end.
I watched the "Unexpected Journey" some time ago and got around seeing this one for free. After seeing the first of the Hobbit films I didn't expect much, the goofy Disney feeling I got from the first movie continued deep into this one.
What I liked about this movie was Smaug, he is an interesting character with a lovely voice actor. I'd love to see some deeper information about each and every one of the dwarfs as someone who didn't read the books have zero clues about who they are besides the little info given occasionally throughout the movie + the scene at Bilbo's home in the first flick.
Tons of "Pirates of the Caribbean"-styled goofs, few noteworthy scenes, flashing camera angles and an out of the air-love story between the filler character Tauriel and one of the dwarfs.
I have no clue as how to this movie managed to achieve this kind of IMDb score.
