Orca (1977)
Orca is a beautiful masterpiece about revenge between a killer whale and a man.
The movie thoughtfully examines humanity and the interconnectedness between man and animal through the theme of revenge. The main character is a man who has become a widower when a drunk driver killed his family. But the man is not a sympathetic character nonetheless. On the contrary, he is a greedy and selfish man who, driven by his greed, kills a pregnant female orca.
He realizes his mistake, but lets it happen anyway. The male orca sees with his own eyes how his mate and newborn calf perish.
From here begins a cycle of revenge where the man and orca slowly destroy each other.
In the cycle of revenge, the man starts to understand the orca as well, who loved his family more than the man loved his own.
Eventually the whale and man have a fair fight against each other, which ends in a loss for both of them.
Ultimately this story is about two male widows who have lost the purpose in their lives and direct it only into revenge.
This is a very sad but thought-provoking story, accentuated by the beautiful music of Ennio Morricone.
Richard Harris gives the performance of his life in the leading role, in what is both his greatest and hardest role.
This is a forgotten masterpiece.
Sea Fever (2019)
Sea Fever is a good small horror movie.
The movie starts out very intriguing and does a good job setting the mood. However, it doesn't fully realize the potential of its idea, even though the story elements work well overall.
Perhaps the psychological aspect of the story is a bit too light - we don't get a truly unsettling or distressing atmosphere. The contamination of the water is also barely touched upon, which could have built much more desperation.
The main character Siobhán (Hermione Corfield) is a very autistic figure, but not much is really done with her character.
In general the characters are surprisingly passive, and no one truly stands out even though the story would have allowed for it.
The creature design is very well done and makes for a really interesting element. I think it got just the right amount of screen time.
I would recommend the film to fans of The Thing.
It shows promise even if it doesn't fully capitalize on its chilling premise. With some deeper character development and focus on themes, a similar story could truly unsettle. As it is, it remains a solid miniature thriller.
Meg 2: The Trench (2023)
Meg 2 is a dumb big movie that doesn't even try to be anything better.
Note that the movie seems to have been filmed at gunpoint, clearly no one involved wanted to make this.
The movie is full of terrible twists and turns that feel deliberately made badly without any humor.
While watching the movie you can sense how indifferent the makers have been towards it.
It feels like every actor was completely miscast in their roles.
Ultimately it's hard to talk about the story because it's so insignificant that by the end credits I had already forgotten what the point of this work was even supposed to be.
The Megalodons only seem to be in the movie because the name of the movie is Meg. Otherwise it's bizarre that for the big shark no task was invented and they are instead mostly replaced with primitive moray eels whose existence, like this movie, has no reason.
Don't bother watching, you'll thank me later.
Eight for Silver (2021)
Eight for Silver is a wasted opportunity.
The story starts out very interestingly and has a good atmosphere, but towards the end many potential plotlines fizzle out.
Also, the most important turns seem to pass by unnoticed.
Overall the story itself is interesting and the actor performances are good. Especially Boyd Holbrook gives a fantastic performance that keeps the viewer engaged until the end of the movie.
Also, the bad CGI effects take away impact from the movie, but the practical effects are again excellent. It's a pity that this movie was not done entirely with practical effects.
The beginning and ending of the movie also feel hastily slapped on.
The Fanatic (2019)
An intriguing and perverse movie that evokes both amusement and horror with its confusion
The movie is a very intriguing case. It maintains a comedic tone throughout, but beneath it lies a sad and perverse obsession. In this story, there are practically no good people; everyone flirts with evil. However, it's worth noting that the movie was written by someone who themselves became a victim of a crazy fan.
One can observe in the direction how the intention is to portray the protagonist Moose in a negative light, but at the same time, John Travolta does everything to make his character sympathetic. Clearly, the movie portrays the character of Moose being tossed back and forth. In the end, we are left with the notion that Moose is an innocent fan who is ultimately pushed over the edge.
Perhaps the movie serves as a lesson to big celebrities to be more understanding towards their fans? Or is that even a good thing?
Nevertheless, it is a highly interesting and thought-provoking story.
Ripley Under Ground (2005)
Great thriller
This is very good thriller.
I like very much black humor what make film in second level.
I'm always like Patricia Highsmith novel, but it's very hard make movie because filmmaker not always understand the humor what Patricia make in characters
But this films understand that very well.
CAST is PERFECT!
Barry Pepper is a good Tom Ripley!
Claire Forlani and Alan Cumming acting travesty in art people. it's very funny
