The Descent: Part 2 (2009)
Send someone to the cave in search for logic please...
Descent 1 was probably one of the best Horror-Movies in the last decade. At least in my opinion that is. It had good actors, a great setting and interesting monsters. All things missing in most Horror-Flicks these days. When Sarah got stuck in that tunnel i thought my heart just stops beating. And there were not even any monsters in that scene. It were scenes like that, that made it a great movie. They never explained anything, you never knew what really happened. Did Sarah (and the others maybe too) just snap and did she kill all her friends? Were they only hallucinating? The sequel was a sure thing after the success. And a sequel of course destroys all of that. They need to bring explanations in a sequel, otherwise it's only lame. The story needs to be pushed further, that's what sequels are for. Descent 2 has no real story. A chubby sheriff forces a traumatized girl into a cave again, in which she nearly died shortly before? That's how they wanted to bring Sarah into the new Movie? Why did'nt they just use the other ending of Descent, where Sarah never escapes the cave? That way it would've made so much more sense for her to be there. How this chubby sheriff thinks he can climb down in that cave, makes you wonder too. He'd never be able to come very far in a cave like that. Then they find the camera, used in part one and you get proof that those monsters were not hallucinations of Sarah, they're on Film. One after another gets killed very bloody. Then they find Juno! Yeah the Juno we saw die in part one. The Juno who got jumped by twenty of these monsters after Sarah injured her badly. But we are to believe she survived all that. She became in the two days between part 1 and 2 an amazon-like fighter without any bad injuries. WTF? And she tells the others, she'd know the exit. So why is she still down there then and has'nt escaped already? The stupid sheriff meanwhile handcuffs Sarah to himself? Great Idea! No, actually more a desperate attempt to add some tension to the story. Things of course go wrong and the sporty sheriff of course falls down into a hole while Sarah lies above on the Ground screaming in pain. Instead of pulling him out of the hole (I mean, there were THREE girls there!) they decide to cut of his hand in a very bloody scene! Then Juno dies! Why pretend she survived only to kill her minutes later again? Sarah dies too. The other girl escapes the cave. But then the man that brought Sarah to the Hospital in the beginning of the movie finds her in the middle of a giant wood and knocks her out and brings her body back to the cave, apparently in order to feet the creatures. That's the end of the Movie. You never get to know why he did it, or more interesting why he did'nt do it to Sarah in the beginning, nor how and what he knows about the monsters. All in all this is not a real sequel but a poor try to re-tell part 1. You do not find out anything new. Nothing really interesting happens. And the thing with the guy is really stupid. It's a gory Horrormoie with some nice bloody scenes in it. But you'll find yourself desperately looking for some logic.
The House of the Devil (2009)
Huh?
Do you like watching girls walking through big houses? Then this is your new favorite movie! Here's what happens: Girls wants to move out of dorm. Roomie sucks. Girl needs money and accepts Babysitter-Job. Girls BFF gets shot in the head, without Girls knowledge. Girl runs (not actually running, but sometimes dancing and sometimes walking very slow) around in a big house for about 45 minutes without discovering anything. Girl eats Pizza and gets dizzy. Girl wakes up and is strapped. People paint with blood on girl. Girl frees herself and kills them and tries to kill herself. Girl is in Hospital and will survive. The part with her being strapped and all is about 15 minutes long. I love Horror-Movies like Rosemarys Baby. Where they build up suspense and you never know really whats going on. But this movie was just boring!
The Dark Knight (2008)
Where is Batman?
Watching this Movie you get to see Batman and Two Face and The Joker. All good things, if you are into Batman. But to me it does'nt feel like a Batman Movie. They tried to make it so realistic and stuff. But thanks to it's realism some scenes are just way over the top. It looks like a Halloween version of the Godfather. Man in silly costumes fighting and trying to be bad-ass. Hilarious! Batman is a superhero! There is no need to make an realistic Movie about an Superhero! I like all the supernatural elements of the Comics and in this Movie they took them all away. Take Bales costume away and wipe Heath Ledger's Make-Up away and you have a somewhat boring Gangster-Movie. Leave the costumes and the Make-Up and you have a very boring Batman Movie. Please let Tim Burton do another Batman!
Dollhouse (2009)
Do I like it or not?
After watching the last episode, i still haven't decided whether to like it or not. I am not even sure if I want a season 2 or not. The Actors were all pretty good. Eliza Dushku almost never failed in giving a believable new Person each Episode. And its really not her fault, that some of her Characters were just not interesting. It seemed to me, the writers didn't think about the limited episodes the Show had been given and that there might not be a second season. They tried so hard to make each episode unique that they forgot about the main plot. Especially the first 5 Episodes... They never got me to a point of wanting to see more. Then after Episode 6, it was an up and down for me with the show. Sometimes it got interesting, but too often they stole the interesting Plot with simply erasing the Dolls minds, when finally they remembered something. I thought the show was going more in the Direction, that some of the Dolls starting to remember what happens to them and try to get out of there. The Dollhouse was almost too perfect for an interesting series. Its been like "hey we have a Problem... ahh never mind lets just erase some minds then" The writing went from poor to very good. The Episode with the singer made me wanna stop right there and never ever watch another Episode of Dollhouse again. That was the most Stupid thing i have ever seen in an Joss Whedon Series, even the complete Season One of Angel wasn't as bad as this, and that sucked. I also expected more from the final Episode... I thought, they knew, they had to do something interesting if they wanted a second season. I expected a big boom at the end, something that made me sending out bomb threads to the people in charge of green-lighting a second season. But again: Nada. It ends with the same "plot-twist" of most of the episodes: Ooooh they're minds are erased again, but they might (or not) remember something. So i really wonder why they do not air episode 13, which sounds like it might finally lead the series to something really interesting. I am almost sure, that there wont be a season 2 and i am afraid i can understand why that might be. From all I've heard about the plans for Season 2, i would be willing to give it a shot, but if its never made... i guess i wont cry my eyes out and simply wait for a new Firefly Movie or Even a Buffy Movie and erase my mind so i can simply forget about the Dollhouse....
