Dark Feed (2013)
Watch it only if your extremely bored
Well, if you've seen the trailer you won't find any spoilers here, because the whole plot is not more than that. But I checked the spoiler part anyway, just to be sure.
Despite most of the reviews here, I think the acting's not bad at all. There are just way too many characters. Instead of having the time to get to know a few of them, you just see how one by one, everybody vanishes or loses it or whatever they do in the dark. Which is basically the main problem of this film: too many characters in too many one-person scenes where something bad happens. It simply gets boring after the fifth "incident" and you just don't care anymore.
Apart from that, there's no real story or logic behind the whole thing. That really is a problem, because there would be enough time to build some conspiracy-like storyline. Instead, the movie is filled with the already mentioned boring parts. There's even a character who's described as "our conspiracy guy". But you only get a halfhearted story about the asylum and something in the water. Wow. The plot described in a maximum of two sentences. I call that potential thrown out of the asylum-window.
But in the end I gave it 4 points out of 10 because it has some cool and amusing, sometimes funny, creepy scenes. The atmosphere is great and when you are really bored you can give this movie a try. Seen worse.
Imaginaerum (2012)
Sad and long Music Video, not more...
Reading all these great reviews with super-ratings, I just had to watch this movie. I love Nightwish, I love visualized trips into the human mind (like The Cell or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and I like the dark touch these movies have. But Imaginaerum was rather disappointing. It's trying to be that very deep movie, with the heavy, meaningful images. But the longer you watch and the more you learn from the plot, the more you realize: it's not. It's just a very long, sad and melancholic Music Video.
Of course you might shed a tear near the ending but that doesn't make up for the rest of the film.
Especially the enforced appearances of the band are very misplaced. They (mostly!) just don't fit in! Those scenes are turning a not so bad movie into a Music Video.
Watch it if you are bored but don't expect too much. It gets five stars for being very average, good special effects, okay story, bad band placements. And no, it's definitely not a movie for kids! Unless you want your child watch a closeup head-shot.
Contracted (2013)
A lot better than expected!
First when I saw the trailer, I thought this would be one of the "oh my god, a deathly virus outbreak, transforming people to crazy and murderous THINGS"-movies. Then I saw the not really good rating and I was forced to think of this movie as a cheap horror-film, made and created by some horror fans, with lot of gore and maybe some wanna-be-deep scenes.
But eventually I watched it, because the trailer wasn't that bad and somehow it actually didn't look like "one of those" movies. And I was really positively surprised!
If you expect this movie to be the ultimate shocker with a lot of scenes where you're actually afraid of taking a sip of your drink because you might choke on it while something scary happens, then you're going to be disappointed. But although the typical "BOOH!" scenes are completely missing and the protagonists are not actually drowning in blood and intestines, there are a lot of very creepy scenes, which are uncomfortably near at things that really could happen to you.
In the end I couldn't help but somehow admire the creators and actors, for being able to make the most realistic horror movie I've seen so far, with some fake blood and contact lenses! Funny to say, that I didn't realize the lack of special effects until the end of the movie, because I was simply not missing them!
Okay, there are some things that doesn't quite work out, like the doctor who sees the black veins on her stomach and says "oh yes, some kind of rash... you should put some body lotion on it"... Uhm, no, that really looks like a freaking blood poisoning! But alright, the movie couldn't continue as it does if the doctor would see that she is actually *spoiler* rotting from the inside *end of spoiler*
But except for some unpolished scenes (the choking doesn't look like choking at all) I recommend this film as a decent, creepy beginning of something bigger. It doesn't leave you with an adrenaline rush, but with an uneasy feeling like after watching "The Day After Tomorrow".
If you watched the trailer and read the movie description you might already know what this film is going to be about, but if no, attention, spoiler: After watching countless zombie movies, I thought there couldn't be a more worn out genre. But there are still exceptions. Like Zombieland, Worldwar Z and Contracted.
