Different take
26 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is no comparison to the big budget Thor movies but it wasn't meant to be. There are worse takes on Thor. There are two that make this look like it should get an Oscar. One with Zachary Ty Bryan which is atrocious then there's the one with Richard Grieco as Loki which is even worse. I watched because I have an affinity for Norse stories. I read every book on Norse mythology I could get my hands on growing up. I also like Dominic Purcell and Craig Fairbrass. I thought the guy playing Thor was miscast but then I didn't like the way they wrote the character. There was a mention in one review of why no mortal could touch Thor's hammer and then the main character did. The story told why - he was Thor's son so half god and could pick up the hammer. Also, in the mythology Thor isn't really very nice. He's arrogant and selfish. He's more the way Thor played by Chris Hemsworth is at the beginning of the first movie. All that aside the movie was OK. It is rather slow and dreary. They should have cut at least 30 minutes out and edited it better. It falls in the category I have for most movies - its not great but I've seen much worse unfortunately.

Pleasantly Surprised
19 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is how SyFy should make movies. It's weird, campy, cheesy and ridiculous but all in a good way. It was just good silly fun that did not take itself too seriously. A lot of running around chasing a rapidly growing spider with plenty a funny lines. All in all an entertaining movie. Also, the CGI spider(s) weren't too bad unlike a lot of the SyFy efforts at CGI. The two main characters did a really good job and worked well together. The whole thing was done well. There were actors in this one that you could actually recognize from other things. It's not really scary at all but it is amusing. You don't feel like you completely wasted 2 hours after watching unlike most of the SyFy movies.

Really Bad
19 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Another SyFy stinker though there are worse ones. The military characters are not believable at all. There was evidently no effort to make them appear to be. There were 3 people in the cast I recognized. Linda Hamilton who wasn't even good. The guy that played her second in command who actually was OK. Jamie Kennedy, how does this guy keep getting cast? He is terrible but I've actually seen in another earlier movie where he is much worse. The script/dialogue was atrocious. There were conversations between characters that made no sense. There were lines were they said things that were completely wrong if anyone bothered to check any facts or watch any nature show about the ocean. My last nerve was plucked when they couldn't even get the grammar correct. Collaborate was used in a sentence which made no sense. The word should have been corroborate. There were several of us watching and we all went what? Picky I know but come on, that's as bad as misspelled words in a book. You will not regret not watching this one. It is a very badly done movie.

Waste of time
27 February 2007
This was absolutely awful but unfortunately I've seen worse. At least the production value is good (It doesn't look like someone shooting their first film with a camcorder). The basic story had possibilities but it went nowhere. It was just cheesy and a waste of time but considering that William Shatner wrote and produced this what do you expect but cheese. The major test of this is that I walked out of the room when it was playing and didn't care if I missed any of it. The only good thing about this was seeing Randolph Mantooth in something other than a soap but even he couldn't save this turkey. All I've seen Robert Beltran and Nicholas Brendon in since their series have ended has been really bad TV or straight to video movies. I should have known this would be bad but I keep hoping for something decent.
