The Second Coming of Christ (2018)
Impossible to even make fun of this film
Sometimes in films there are mistakes, people pick up on those mistakes and make fun of them. Every so often there is a parody of the film: "Shawn of the Dead" to "Dawn of the Dead", "Space Balls" to "Star Wars". But this film is so horrible that it would be impossible to actually make a parody of it, because in order to do that you would have to make something which made less sense or had worse acting.
The "Sweeded" version of the film would actually be an improvement to the stupidity that was created here. The makers should be ashamed. All the actors have just seriously damaged their carriers.
Avatar (2009)
Awesome graphically, and that's about it
This is a great film if you look at it from a purely graphical perspective. I did not see the film in 3D, but i bet that it would be a great experience. I'm waiting for the DVD to come out so that i can watch the making of and listen to director's commentary; i'm really interested to know how all this was created (from the initial thinking process to the eventual computer graphics).
However, here the good comments about this film end.
The plot is highly predictable. Which would be OK if there would be a solid character development in the film, but there was not. I was laughing throughout all the intense moments, because they were shown as plot-twists, but one could predict them at least 30 minutes in advance.
In conclusion i'd recommend that people watch this film if they want to see individual scenes (many of which are greatly done) or to marvel at the technology of computer graphics. But if you want to see a solid good motion picture, i recommend to give this one a miss.
9 rota (2005)
Poor attempt at story telling "Hollywood" style
Yet another example of "Russian Hollywood". The "highlight" of this movie is the continuing glorification of the war (which almost all war movies do) and a lot of patriotism (same).
While there seemed to be a couple of attempts to develop some characters in the movie, i can only remember a couple, the rest are becoming single faced mass of actors, who wouldn't know the difference between playing a tree in the kindergarten play and a porno star in the smut film.
The film didn't eve mannage to tell the whole story (which might have remmedied it, as it was suppose to be a documentary). Very important parts were cut out when compared with the book.
Léon (1994)
Classic action and personal saga
If you still have not seen this movie you do not know how far the movie in the action genre can go. It pushes the mind of the viewer further and further with each scene, and by the end of the film you feel exhausted as if you were actually the one who has gone through the whole saga together with Léon and Mathilda.
However, at no time is this movie hard to understand or is unclear. The plot is laid out in the original and unpredictable, but yet very logical manner; and everyone who has ever had to search for one's one identity under the difficult circumstances will definitely be able to relate to the main characters.
The only negative side of the movie is that it has been cut in pieces for the US audiences, and even more when it was shown on television (some times changing the plot).
Kukushka (2002)
Measuring stick for other films
This is the first movie that i have voted to get 10/10. I have watched the original Russian version as well as the subtitled international one. Both actually offer a different perception.
The film examines the absurdity of war and of interpersonal communication between the "enemies". However, it also shows how the individuals who are involved can grow to overcome their prejudices, although sometimes at the price of attempting to kill someone who would be your friend under the different circumstances.
Historical accuracy of this film should be taken as a measuring stick for all the other films of the similar genre.
Eyes on the Prize (1987)
Truth will move us forward
Excellent and absolutely necessary film for anyone interested in politics and history of the United States of America. Lies are exposed, truth is said, and tears on your face are there as a sign of respect for all those who have dedicated their lives to the fight against this evil empire.
You will not feel hopeless and depressed after watching this film, as is the case with some documentaries. It empowers you, makes you believe that this war between the masters and the slaves will be won, and one day there will be a true slave-less society.
However, if you are easily offended by the people who don't share your exact world view than you should not watch this.
