The King's Man (2021)
This was ok......
....just.
Two and a bit hours of nonsense fighting, too much dialogue. Far too much swearing, for context this was set in the early 1900's people didn't use the F word in every sentence in those days.
Having said that, I wasn't bored and the movie flowed well enough.
Cry Macho (2021)
Slow, lacking a believable plot
I just found this turgid nonsense. So slow, no action, bad acting, stupid storyline.
Normally an Eastwood fan, but he should have left this alone. Sadder that he produced it too, I fear he doesn't have many films left, it would sad if this was his swansong.
No Time to Die (2021)
Too long, Turgid, and just not very good
The longest Bond film with the least to see. This film seems to be a cross between John Wick and Love story. I like the fact that Bond is vulnerable it makes him a more rounded character but a little less.
I was less impressed with the John Wick-like action scenes with Bond walking round shooting people left right and centre. The evil genius (yawn) was the stupidest ever, I really feel that EON had run out of ideas and just put any old crap out, as long as its got a few car chases and fighting the plebs will be happy.
It always irks me that the villain is able to assemble a criminal empire, in this case inside a disused Russian missile solo, without a single organisation knowing, but those same countries can pick up something untoward in seconds when Bond lands on the island.
Honestly I don't see a future for the franchise unless they reboot and start remaking some of the originals.
The Grand Tour: The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown (2021)
Quite sub par
I wanted to like this, but the banter is so forced and scripted. There were a couple of funny things but these were clearly spontaneous.
It's all a bit strained now.
Porridge (2017)
Pleasantly surprised.
Generally I prefer the classics to be left alone, and this is a little dated in its format and of course no prison was ever like it.
But there was enough to make me smile and laugh a few times. The thing I do dislike is Kevin Bishops delivery, its too reminiscent of Ronnie Barker and I understand why, I just find it annoying.
The Leftovers (2014)
One of the best series I have seen in years.......
I was gripped from the outset, great acting, great writing and a unique story line.
The score is fantastic and haunting, it makes the ethereal nature of the content complete. I watched over and over.
I hope that they leave it alone now, its done, complete, please don't make anymore and make it like lost.
Edit: 21/09/18. Just finished re-watching this for the third time, still powerful. I love the Max Richter score.
Hello Ladies (2013)
Thoroughly Enjoyed.
Just binge watched this and the movie. I enjoyed it from start to finish, it was so funny and also touching in the way that the best comedies are. I don't think that this deviates from the expected story line, but what it does deliver is the style of awkward humour that he has become famous for.
The style is similar to the office and other Gervais/Merchant collaborations, what is clear is that perhaps Merchant didn't always get the credit that he deserved for the previous works as he rarely appeared on camera. This is some of the best cringe watching around, very much "did he really say that" style.
I would recommend this to anyone.
