Made for fanboys
24 March 2024
I love the original Ghostbusters and thought the 2nd one not as good, but entertaining. The 2021 reboot was well done, and a fitting revisit of the franchise. This one, sadly, is a poorly written film that can only be enjoyed by those seeking nostalgia.

It could've been good, but tries to do too many things at once. A few good moments were provided by Bill Murray... which might count to 4-5 minutes of screen time? There were so many subplots, besides the end of the world (always, these days), it was truly hard to get into any of it. At the end of the movie, it said "dedicated to Ivan", but more accurately, should've said "dedicated to making some o dat sweet sweet green".

Prepare for a decide-your-own-ending
11 December 2023
Lots of unanswered questions & events. The writer said that ending it with no clear answers or explanations would be "respecting the viewer". Let's call it what it is... writers block at best; lazy, unimaginative storytelling at worst. It all means the same thing... Very unsatisfying after sitting there for nearly 2 1/2 hours.

Also, factor in that there are no sympathetic characters. No characters that you genuinely care for because they are all pretty unlikable. It seems that he has mistaken mystery and unexplainable events with good character creation and story arcing. If it helps, imagine the way you felt if you watched the last episode of Lost after watching the entire series. Watch it your own risk.

FINALLY!...
20 November 2023
In a world of remakes, political statements disguised as movies, plots that depend on people having special powers or saving the triple quantum multiverse, predictable stories with predictable outcomes, etc. This was so refreshing. I thought movies like this were extinct.... Prepare for an actual original screenplay that keeps you interested, brilliant acting, beautiful real non-CGI (or soundstage) sets, and most importantly, as well as the thing that they always get wrong nowadays, believable characters.

I'll be shocked if this doesn't become a classic. People were literally laughing out loud in the theater, holding back tears, and everything in between.

Treat yourself, buy a ticket, and hopefully more movies like these will get made.

Scream VI (2023)

Suspend ALL reality
28 April 2023
Answers the age old question: How many times can someone be stabbed, and then go about their day like nothing happened? Infinite. An infinite number of times. It's like it's reminding us... this is just a spoof. It's not even a real movie, kinda. If your looking for a horror movie, this ain't it. A murder mystery? This ain't it. Teenage bloodbath? Getting closer. I felt like this was going to go somewhere different at first, but after 15min it settled back into the same ole deal, reminding us that the irony of the Scream franchise is that it blatantly admits it's a predictable cash grab, so not to expect anything fresh or rewarding. Other than seeing people with multiple stab wounds and guts falling out running around like nothing ever happened. Definitely a new take on the resiliency of the human body.

So slow
28 February 2022
85% Soapy Drama 10% Suspense 4% Horror 1% Exposition After episode 4, it feels like they're setting this up in hopes of a multi-season Lost scenario, with more questions than answers (will there be 100's of unanswered, as well?), and tons of slow burn drama between characters. As cool and promising as the premise is, I find myself less and less wanting to continue this already frustrating ride.

Science fiction, not Science fact
27 September 2021
This was a fun story, full of surprises, great characters, and an ending that was not expected. A probable future? Probably not. But is Star Wars? Avatar? Twilight Zone? Doesn't stop me from enjoying them!

The bad reviews almost scared me off, but they dealt mostly with arguing scientific validity. We gave it a shot, and we're glad we did. It truly IS an original idea, and those are rare in this age of reboots. Well acted, and truly touching in the right spots.

I rarely write reviews, but this movie deserves a counter to the negative reviewers that pick apart anything they can to feel intelligent. Suspend disbelief, approach this as sci-fi rather than "horror", and enjoy this crazy ride!

Best episode so far
17 November 2020
I've been watching straight through, and this one is easily the best episode of the bunch so far. Great casting - All the characters were very believable, which was crucial to selling the storyline. Great tempo - an unpredictable storyline that keeps you guessing and on edge of your seat till the end. Great ending... Definitely did not see that coming.

If they could make more like this, the simple original recipe of emphasis on good writing rather than only heavy-handed social commentary, they'd be very well served.

Slow in some places, slower in others
7 June 2020
I've got a few summations on this one: 1. Stretching out scenes to death in a way that M Night Shyamalan could only dream of 2. Imagine if Steven Spielberg had no talent for storytelling, no budget, no composer, and no stars to work with 3. It's as if the filmmakers wanted to know how much patience they could suck out of an audience without inciting a riot 4. I think the cameraman fell asleep a few times, himself ... there are some times when it just shut off to black for no apparent reason for several minutes. It seems the only logical conclusion. Or perhaps they were just trying to save room on their MacBook? 5. There is a LONG scene where an old lady tells a story, which is a clever metaphor for the entire movie. It feels like you are being told a story by a senile geriatric, constantly looking at the time, and trying to think of some way to get out of it. Your mind wanders no matter how hard you try to pay attention.

Just watch a real Spielberg movie. Even if you've seen it 100 times. It will be time better spent.

Expect a fun, entertaining movie!
26 September 2019
When you go to a rock concert, you should expect loud, energetic entertainment, and when you go to a ballet, you should expect delicate, artistic expression. In saying that, those that didn't get this movie simply went for the wrong reason. This isn't Castaway or 12 Years a Slave. This is a comic book movie, and Frank Miller absolutely nailed that vibe. The characters were exaggerated. The coloring framework, and visuals are complete chocolate for the eyes. The story was fun, well-paced, surprising, engaging, and the ending was unexpected, but very satisfying.

It's honestly hard to find a movie that is just a crazy fun ride like this one, so it was nice to run across it last night!. My wife & I have different tastes in movies, but we both loved it.

Again, if you're looking for a heart-tugging, dramatic playout of deep character development, continue to scroll Netflix - there's plenty out there. If you're looking for a fun, action-filled comic book of a movie, definitely check this out!

What it's supposed to be - very entertaining
22 January 2015
I read a lot of reviews before watching, and truly was surprised as this movie was MUCH better than the detractors let on. The acting is great, the storyline, though part of a formulaic genre, is well thought out and moves at a great pace, the dynamic of action/release/suspense/reveal is well timed, and unless you're unbelievably difficult to entertain, you'll not want to be interrupted during any part of this film. Are there plot holes? We debated this and decided it's truly up to your point of view, but the events are actually all completely plausible. Summarily, unless you go into movies for the sole intent of picking them apart and finding things to not like, I guarantee you will be surprised, uncomfortable, freaked out, worried, excited, and ultimately entertained by No Good Deed.
