Life of the Party (I) (2018)

I don't understand all the bad reviews
21 January 2019
I usually don't review movies unless I have a strong opinion. I was just baffled at people being so critical. This isn't some work of film, it's a comedy. Yes it is far fetched and unrealistic, but it's not meant to be some cohesive masterpiece, it's just comedy.

I'm very critical of comedy, but laughed throughout this entire movie. Sometimes in new comedy the endless one-liners get kind of tiring, but this one I was dying. Also when I watched the preview I wasn't convince it would be funny, so that almost deterred me also.

Can't say enough bad about this movie
8 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I rarely write on here, but I'm so frustrated that I wasted 2+ hours of my time on this.

How on EARTH did this get nominated for so awards. It started out and I really thought it was going to get interesting. Just a bunch of random horrible events happen to him, but the characters are so under developed that you couldn't really care less.

All the scenes are long and drawn out, but they're not interesting or visually intriguing, so I found myself just waiting for them to be over.

The characters were flat and even when they were emotional, I had no sympathy. Casey Affleck became guardian of his nephew, but the father never told him? Strange. Then the fire happens and kills all 3 of his kids, they seem to just glaze right over that. He doesn't cry or anything because he's 'a man'. The whole movie is this banter between him and his nephew like nothing happened, just banter and it's not funny or entertaining or thought provoking or anything!!

I could go on, but don't want to waste any more time on this. The only way I could be more angry about this is if I paid to see it.

This just proves how the all these award groups are a total waste -- it's all some marketing ploy that sensationalizes movies to get more people to watch it.

An amazing, all star cast, but what an absolute disappointment.
26 November 2016
I hate to say it, but this movie might have been the worst I've ever seen. I usually don't write a review, but this was insulting to my intelligence. An amazing, all star cast, but somehow it started out not funny and ended just as bad. There were no redeeming qualities, not entertaining, not funny, I couldn't even laugh at how bad it was.

Also, upon reading the reviews, someone pointed out all the fake 10 star reviews, they are completely fake! What kind of joke is this? Clearly once again not funny.

I'm basically done writing, but have to fill the space to make this public, so just bottom line, don't bother watching this unless you're looking for some conversation starters to talk about during Thanksgiving dinner, I'm sure whoever you talk to will chime in the same.

Had its moments, I love what it was trying to do but... not quite there
1 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I love Bill Murray, yes. I love Melissa McCarthy, yes. I feel like watching modern film in this time, we're so critical and it's not always easy to see the message in a film when the process along the way isn't the most enjoyable. This movie definitely has its moments, but overall I kept going through these large critical tracks of time.

The dialog at times just doesn't feel natural and you kind of see the predictability show itself so many times.

I really like/respect what the film was trying to do; I love that the actors--especially Melissa McCarthy--were trying to do something larger than what they're known for (comedy/entertainment).

Overall, I'm not going to claim it's some masterpiece, but it is trying to get at something bigger than what is and that's the interesting part--at least for me.

Total waste of time
31 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those gay films that has no backbone, the sex scenes are really the only thing worth mentioning. The plot is so thin, I felt NOTHING for the characters, you already know he killed the man, so where's the mystery?

I understand it's about passion, but it's completely over the top. Maybe I'm jaded, but the main character falls in love with the person he knows is the killer after one hook up.

I don't even feel this is worth writing any more about since I wasted enough time watching it.

There are plenty of great gay films, but this is not one of them.
