Entebbe (2018)
Waste of a Military advisor!
While I could put up with a "balanced " account of the famous raid by Israeli commandos at Entebbe, the sympathetic view of the German terrorists, wearing their German guilt around their necks, and the political machinations of Israeli politicos, but how about a decent action sequence to end a pretty fair movie (until the dull end)!
A great disappointment. I hated the metaphorical dance sequences, too! To artsy and distracting. Coulda been a better movie!
Glad I borrowed the DVD from my local library. Still feel gypped!
Fury (2014)
Gritty, exhausting,
A must see in theaters! A raising of the bar for war films. The best war films glorify the warrior and not war. But these warriors are shown, warts and all! Brutal, callous, hateful, merciless. Danger close to rapists and murderers. But war brings out the worse in some men. These men definitely need Jesus! Two of the characters profess Christian belief, the others, not so much! But this film shows the bond men at war have for each other. Slow to accept the newcomer, only weeks in the Army, while the veterans served together for 3 or 4 years, the brutality to the newbie to toughen him up for war is probably hard to watch. The brutality of war, more so. NOT for the squeamish. Profanity is off the charts, but it is to illustrate an aspect of men at war. Definitely not choir boys. Courage and unexpected mercy shown to an enemy shows what few positives can come out of war. One film to see and to own on DVD!
The German (2008)
Exciting Short WW2 Film
I caught this short film while exploring videos on Youtube. The CGI of the dogfight between the Messerschmitt Me 109 and Spitfire was phenomenal! Very exciting! Totally realistic! The battle continues on the ground as "the German" tries to escape into the woods after both planes are brought down, with the RAF fighter pilot in hot pursuit! Shots are exchanged between the two pilots and the British pilot captures the enemy. Tense moments follow as the German pleads for his life and the Brits blood begins to cool as he marches his prisoner to soldiers coming to his aid. But wait! The soldiers are troops of the Irish Free State! Whoops! We're in neutral Ireland! "Off to the Internment Camp with the both of you" (paraphrasing)! Didn't see that coming! Very clever climax to and exciting dogfight sequence! I saved it to my Youtube favorites, and if you WW2 film buffs, so will you!
Dracula (2013)
Promising, but disappointing to me!
Visually stunning, beautifully costumed, sufficiently acted, but too "Occupy:London 1881" for me! Political Lefty Villains: Christianity? Check! Big Oil? Check! White businessmen? Check! Dracula posing as am American? Okay. Black Renfield? Sure, why not. Sexually liberated female vampire slayers? It's been done before but, okay. Secret cabal? "Order of the Dragon"? I could go with that. The "Dracula's love/ reincarnation story? Blatant rip-off of the movie "Bram Stoker's Dracula"! I could have handled all of this, but when Van Helsing is on Dracula's side, murdering a thief to resuscitate Dracula, that absolutely lost it for me! I guess I'm too much of a Dracula Traditionalist!
