Charming Christmas (2015 TV Movie)

Overly-focused-on-work Lady Grinch has her head turned...
9 November 2015
Overly-focused-on-work Lady Grinch has her head turned by what maybe/maybe-not a son of Santa. Their chemistry was great together. I kept expecting him to move on in and kiss her but he showed remarkable restraint. She wasn't giving any indication that she'd slap him if he did. I love these warm and fuzzy Hallmark Christmas movies. This one is my favorite one so far this year. (as of 11-9-2015) Hallmark's own blurb describing their movie: "Rossman's department store prepares for the Christmas season but its employees are not quite in the holiday spirit. As the no-nonsense manager, Meredith, is busy with the store's possible expansion for her parents, Nick comes to work as Santa Claus and spreads holiday joy throughout Rossman's. Between making Christmas wishes come true and cracking Meredith's tough exterior with some holiday romance, the mysterious Nick seems nothing short of saintly. Could this "Saint Nick" be the real Santa Claus?"

Love on the Air (2015 TV Movie)

Love on the Air
28 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed "Love on the Air." The guy, Nick (Jonathan Scarfe) reminded me of Rod Taylor who was my favorite male lead who co-starred with Doris Day in 'The Glass Bottom Boat.' The lady, Sonia (Alison Sweeney) I can't say she reminded me of Doris Day because no one is that perky, but she was just as likable as her co-star. I preferred the middle of the movie where they were becoming aware of each other and feeling attraction that we could see. All the plot points must be followed so they had to pretend to feint that she was going with the 'old hat,' but then, of course, she didn't. She went with the one we all wanted her to go with so no hissy fits all around. I wish the feint had come a little sooner so we could have seen them happy together for more than thirty seconds at the end. I just jumped back to the middle of the movie and watched them falling for each other again to make up for the lack of time together at the end.

This is a good one.

This is one of the best movies we've seen in a long time. Even though it is about a boy and dog it isn't corny at all. This is one of the best movies we've seen in a long time. Colin Firth wasted on this
1 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT and WARNING They were lobbing f-bombs at you on par with the quantity in the Die Hard movies. They used the 'bait and switch' method of advertising in their trailer. The trailer would have you believe Colin Firth saved a kid from the streets as in Obi Wan and Luke Skywalker, Agent Kay and Agent Jay, Enders Game, etc. You see that trailer and that is what you are expecting. Then you get in there and a lot more cursing is going on than you expected. Then the last scene in the movie is graphic anal sex. Is this the best you can do after 100 years of cinematography? Crude for the sake of it. The man sitting next to me got up and left shortly before the end of the movie. I thought surely it can't be that much longer, he couldn't wait to go to the rest room. He never came back. I guess he'd been warned about the last scene being so vulgar. I wish I'd read the reviews before I went so I would have left when he did, or not gone at all. I'm so tired of CGI. Newsflash movie makers real people can't fly sideways for 20 feet. I will be finding out who made this movie, and I will be making sure not to try anything else of theirs until it is so old it has been reviewed to within an inch of its life, so I'll know of any vulgarities so I can decide for myself and not have it sprung on me with no warning.

A Wish Come True (2015 TV Movie)

Is it spring? Everything is green.
2 February 2015
If you are madly in love with all things climate change – green – save the planet, then you are going to love, love, love this movie. If you feel insulted by every single thing being put on film now having to rip on you, and tell you that you are horrible and hate the planet, and want to destroy the planet, and they need to fix you by preaching at you night and day until you stop killing the planet then this movie will annoy you. It is so arrogant and conceited to decide you know what average people are doing and not doing, and then assuming the worst of them. The incredibly green girl in this movie gets all her birthday wishes and is oblivious to her best friends love for her. Will she figure it out and return the feeling? Who can say? You'll have to watch and find out.

Live and let live!
6 December 2014
"Live and let live" comes to mind when I see all the 1-star reviews. I'm glad I'm not so nosy that I'd go on the internet and give 1-star reviews to a movie that is not even in my categories of movies I'd ever watch. I don't care about sports, but I don't go around ripping on the fact that sports exists, nor do I personally attack other people for liking sports. I saw the movie just to see what it was about and to see what they did with it. I've never researched Christmas so I can neither confirm nor deny any of the arguments. I don't know where the symbols came from. I choose to decorate by my own personal likes and dislikes and not other people's opinions. What I walked away from the movie feeling was, 'don't let the haters embitter you and take the joy out of your own personal celebration.' Keep the joy in your Christmas celebration, whether you 100% with zero doubts fully understand every single aspect or not. For those of you who believe and celebrate Christmas, Have a joyous Christmas! For those of you who don't believe and resent the existence of Christmas, why don't you go look up something on a topic that you like rather than stress yourself out by enraging yourself to the point of wanting to attack other people. Live and let live.

The Equalizer (2014)

The Equalizer
4 October 2014
We went to see the new Denzel Washington movie The Equalizer. I really think he is such a nice man. He has fame, fortune, and looks, but he didn't let it turn him into a jerk. Instead he tries to be a good influence on kids. He doesn't curse in his movies. In this newest movie he asked some guys who were cursing, 'why do you curse so much?' They didn't know how to respond to that. This movie is about him helping some kids get a better life. I like how only the bad guys curse in his movies and you don't see them very much, but he is setting an example to kids who like his movies cursing makes you look like a bad guy. He also encouraged kids to read in this movie. I like the movies he chooses to do. I also like Déjà Vi and Much Ado About Nothing. I'm sure he has others that have just slipped my mind right now, but these three are really nice.

RED (2010)

perfect combination
10 May 2014
I normally wouldn't put in an action adventure movie when I'm home alone without my husband, but I would definitely put this movie in when I'm home alone. It is so funny. It is like they took a screwball romantic comedy and an action adventure comedy that is somehow also serious and perfectly combined them. I love how the young people think it will be a piece of cake to takeout the older ones. It is so fun to root for the 'underdogs.' The opening part just cracks me up, Bruce Willis' life as a bachelor. How anybody could live that boring and own a gun and not shoot themselves in the head is beyond me. It just cracks me up every time. I hope they make more movies like this.

When Calls the Heart (2013 TV Movie)
10/10
I can definitely recommend this movie.
21 October 2013
Sometimes when you skim the top off a book to make a movie it can really miss a lot, and/or it can make the story seem overly simple. I'm not sure where the brunette Elizabeth and Edward came from, but adding them really seemed to add depth to the story, and even though it is still technically a simple story you have to pay more attention to keep up. I like both story lines; I hope we get to keep both in the new series coming out in January. I've always liked the original Elizabeth and Wynn from the books, but I also like the Elizabeth and Edward story as well. Since Edward kind of messed up his reputation with Elizabeth, we'll need to see if she gradually gets feelings for him if/when he stays a responsible adult a.k.a. knight in shining armor. I hope we get to keep the best bits from Elizabeth and Wynn's story as well they had quite an adventure together in the books. Just off the top of my head since it's been a while since I got to sit down with the books. When he took her hiking in Banff, brought her a puppy, told her what ?winiwishy? means, took her camping, etc. The original Elizabeth was really mostly done in her head there wasn't a whole lot of interaction between her and Wynn but we don't want to miss any of what there was of it. I really enjoyed this movie like how much I enjoyed the first couple of the Love Comes Softly movies. I hope that since they are able to do the follow up in a series instead of spread out movies over years that the quality on the series will be as good as this kick-off movie is. Debbie Macomber doing her book in series instead of movies really seemed to work well for her; I hope it works well for WCtH also. I think what this movie does is make you want to read the first book again because they kind of skim over Elizabeth and Wynn's story as the new Elizabeth read's her aunts diary while having a story of her own in a cliffhanger style. I can definitely recommend this movie.
