SEAL Team: Aces and Eights (2022)
Owe this sucked but it's not a low score episode
Owe this sucked but it's not a low score episode Like some are giving it - yes it was telegraphed that something horrible and stupid was going to happen but that was part of the point / it touched on making someone whole and all the emotions up to that from PTS & depression & loss of mission & purpose to a purpose & mission restored or renewed and then a random tragedy taking a life - leading to grief and sadness loss pain suffering - which sucks and then rallying around that loss totally setting up the next episode and for it to happen to a major character who people like and root for makes it more powerful.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Alloyed (2022)
Horrible Ending to a Botched season Not Tolkien
Wow nothing in this series now resembles anything in Tolkiens books. Accept repurposed dialogue and some names and places. Everything else is some really bad storytelling pseudo intellectual or cringe dialogue and botched plots & post modern themes. Galadriel is still unlikeable & besides being 5000 years old completely gets duped by a dude non of which is anything to do with Tolkien where's her husband & daughter & she should have discernment be wise royal ethereal & commanding - Not Tolkien.
There are no wizards in the 2nd age no stories of hobbits. There is no Mithral needed to save trees. Sauron did not school Celebrimbor in how to be a smith - Galadriel did not come up with the 3 rings - there is no cult of female witch kings searching for Sauron who is not a man. Elrond is not some oafish man matter of fact elves are not men - nothing in this series fits with Tolkiens world - Galadriels brother is reborn she would not be on a revenge trip.
Where were the dwarves in this last episode or many of the other characters? The last episode and this make an extremely anticlimactic ending to a poorly done fantasy show - the problem is Tolkien wrote history - PJ told his team to write history and view the movies as such - this team can't even make good generic fantasy & reveal themselves to not be real fans with breaking so much lore & misunderstanding Tolkiens themes of good vs evil temptation and the ordinary being able to overcome evil & suffering through trial & temptation - sad to see some fooled into supporting this drivel - Not Tolkien does not honor his works themes or memory.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Partings (2022)
More boring, bland, and not Tolkien!
Simply stated in the title of this review it's not compelling whether the stories or characters - Best read the books or for a great adaption watch the Oscar winning LOTR trilogy esp the extended versions and enjoy the extras the care taken by PJ writing team crew and actors who honored Tolkien and kept their politics out of it.
ROP looks expensive in some shots but falls way short on plot characterization and dialogue, coming across as boring, cringe, and unintentionally funny at times - this is not even good fan fiction coming across as CW'ish like generic identity politics modern fantasy with all the tropes associated with post-modern ideology.
This boring bland and Not Tolkien episodic slow burn continues with more bad dialogue and nonsensical decisions from key characters. It's not even decent genetic modern fantasy. Not sure which earth the showrunners and writers came from to try to claim this is based on the book and is the novel Tolkien never wrote.
This adaptation isn't actually based on Tolkien's works or his world. Amazon looked at the Lord of the Rings appendices for their source material, but they appear to be about as related to Tolkien as D&D or World of Warcraft. The show itself intends to tell its own, more modern story, with a more modern approach to characters but will also to use the names and places established in Tolkien's lore. It's a sort of bait and switch tactic by the creators to get views. I could say something like, "it's not based on canon", but that's overstating the issue. It's not just "not based on canon." This isn't even the same universe. Despite using familiar names and places, It's a totally different place. It has totally different rules from the ones established in the books. It is therefore not recognizable as a Lord of the Rings adaptation or prequel.
Samaritan (2022)
B-level action reminiscent 1st season arrow
Decent B-level action reminiscent 1st season arrow. Not woke which is a bonus the kid Stallone and Euron Greyjoy do a good job with their acting which is helpful - has the good comic book tropes from heroes journey to fatherhood and redemption - worth a watch for a more classic storytelling approach vs most of the krap coming out over the last few years esp krap around the message. And watch while eating ice cream. Also some good action cliches and cheesy dialogue with Euron giving some over the top grimacing and menacing moments.
Honest review was not flown for the premier or paid for this review and don't have a channel to promote.
Be well.
Bullet Train (2022)
Fun excellent action twist turns & casting
Way better than expected it is fast paced and so many connecting parts - takes seriously the fun and absurdities of its plot and action which makes it work along with great acting music and storytelling. And so many bits from Thomas to a water bottle, snake, mistaking identity, cameos, music choices, hurt people hurt people and the like. There was so much to process maybe I should do some journaling while enjoying a tangerine with Fuji water and a good therapist.
Wow fun movie blend of John Wick to Nobody to Atomic Blond to Kill Bill and other assassination and revenge films.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Unremarkable - Why cast Bale and not use him more
Really unremarkable content from Marvel continuing a trend lately of no real story just mashing characters to have scenes for laughs or to have someone's favorite character have their few minutes of screen time. Not sure where this is going and how their current model is going to work if these films keep getting to a billion and Disney execs get what they want. Its going to take fans saying enough and voting with their pocketbook along with shareholders saying we invested in you to do great storytelling not just churn content and merchandise. And no apology for the cynical comments. It's clearly them banking not getting great writers.
Geeks + Gamers (2016)
G&G Great commentary and entertainment - not pc or woke
G&G is exactly about its name and brings an entertaining array of geeks and gamers in several channels shows and online format. They game, they do shows, speak their truth, and have fun while doing it. Jeremy is a good leader complimenting his team on a regular basis and clearly is in the fight for good content games movies and shows. They all are not afraid to speak their minds which is refreshing in this pc and woke culture (1 star reviews). They are willing to call that out and challenge creators to make better content. Judge for yourself and sit in on a stream and especially engage in the chat.
The Terminal List (2022)
Powerful great thriller series
Wow this beat my expectations as I a am a fan of the books and was not sure how this was going to be. It is really good - Pratt does an excellent job with the PTS and showing by his features and face the internal turmoil of loss and trauma. Production values are solid and the story is well paced and each episode makes me want more. Plus I buy into the whole premise of people needing to pay a price. This thriller is not for the faint of heart I highly recommend it. And for the book series the audible version is also excellent. I listen to it on long runs or hikes.
Watched it a second time with my son who also enjoyed it and was reading the book at the same time - big thumbs up for us and episodes 4 and 5 were stand outs for different reasons and the whole progression of action to psychological thriller to conspiracy thriller to a time of reckoning works really well.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Kringe Kenobi
The Disney channel deconstruction of the OT SW and EU continues with a Disney Princess adventures in babysitting episodic series hated by fans and loved by Reylos and consumers - there is so much bad about this from the contrived save baby Leah nonsensical derivative plot to no SW music. Bad editing and storytelling not honoring canon and lore but lots of key jangling moments.
And stupid stuff from adults unable to catch an 8 year old to. Hiding her under a coat - Wade /
Good stuff: Reva saving Luke and hugging it out with Ben glad she saw the Light!
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part VI (2022)
Reeeva Hugs it out
Well at least Reva saves Luke and hugs it out with Ben. And finally some SW music at the end / Force Awakens. Wow what a horrible series with a nonsensical plot leading us nowhere - this added nothing to the SW story from the bad directing, storytelling, cringe dialogue, key jangling, no SW music, canon breaking / really lame content from the Disney Channel. Simply horrible.
Operation Mincemeat (2021)
Too long by half an hour
Too long by half an hour plus a contrived romance that was not necessary. Great actors and amazing story let them tell it vs these modern scriptwriters who feel a need to add their take or twist to it to make it better- it's usual not better / too long drifted at parts needed to be tightened up.
Terror on the Prairie (2022)
Terrific Gritty Western
This was a terrific gritty western. Wow powerful brutal family survival perspective from the scenery in Montana to the casting, script, plot, storytelling, and acting. This is not a movie for small kids with some serious violence. Gina Carano does an outstanding job portraying a settler, wife, and mother in a frontier home situation that involves tough living to help her husband and kids survive and have a home. Nick Searcy is the villain an almost steals the show with the haunting reason for his wickedness and what he wants to achieve. Some of the violent situations are really intense and had me on the edge of my seat. I am really glad they made a good old fashioned western in the likes of Unforgiven and True Grit. Well done Gina and team. I highly recommend this flick.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part IV (2022)
Sadly going downhill
More inconsistent writing and characters with implausible scenarios and illogical plot. And more inconsistent CGI / for all the money they spent on this it could look better and not like a video game aircraft thrown in to practical shots. Need better writers and editing.
Interceptor (2022)
Horribly bad good
Really horribly bad good B movie action thriller flick - really lame dialogue - woke stuff - great cameo / if you look at some of the obvious lame And woke stuff as mocking then there are some bits that are funny and you can do something while half watching in the background.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part III (2022)
Cringe writing and directing
Wow not sure how there can be so many 9-10 reviews - the writing and directing is abysmal on this series. Its almost to a mocking level. And lets cut to the chase the Vader Kenobi encounter was farcical. Did I mention the bad writing. Its on a CW level.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Wow/ excellent and made for us
Tom Cruise is the last great movie star - and started off by telling us he made this for us. It shows in how well made and great sequel with fresh homages to the previous film while sticking to a good loud action packed fun popcorn movie - a must see on a huge screen with great sound. Saw at our local theater on a 70ft screen in 4K with Dolby sound- heard IMAX is great too. My kids also liked it -
The Rookie: Day in the Hole (2022)
Horrible lame and dumb
Wow I did not think it could be worse than the last couple of episodes with the lame FBI "trainee" spy theme. The doppelgänger thing though funny was dumb and completely broke the wall. And the small town setting and all that interaction made a horrible end to the season. Are middle schoolers writing this dribble / fan fiction would be better.
The Rookie: Mother's Day (2022)
Another dumbed down message episode
Please stop with the ridiculous messaging. Another one that has dumbed down plot and not funny threads - and I thought this was Nathan's show. Get some better writers.
The Rookie: Enervo (2022)
Horrible couple of episodes
I can suspend belief somewhat for a show that has some comedy but these last couple of episodes were of the rails - write a good plot and if you add a character make them interesting -
The Rookie: Simone (2022)
Horrible episode is it supposed to be a farce - parody?
The plot and new FBI trainee character bordered on Scary Movie type farce - show has really jumped the shark into parody / sad as I really like Fillon.
Shut In (2022)
Good thriller and filmmaking
Kept my attention - well written and the cinematography is excellent. Realistic characters and heroine - glad they showed bad decisions and the negative side of addiction along with recovery and redemption - good balance / and some of the adult themes come to the edge but don't cross the line more along the lines of Hitchcock than other movies that have to shock and be voyeuristic. Though not a PG or family movie definitely some adult themes. Some F bombs and violence though not over the top. And more like a 7.5 but bumped it up for the Independant effort.
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
Well done fun should be seen on a big screen
Just returned from the theater. 70 ft curved big screen 4K dual projection with Dolby Atmos the way a big popcorn flick like this needs to be seen. Good continuation of previous recent films with enough characterization and plot between action scenes. Really well done and the podcast conspiracy dude is super funny. I'm a Godzilla fan but this Kong had me rooting for him too / well done and highly recommend finding a big screen to watch this.
The Irregulars (2021)
Horrible rotten badly done
Horribly written drivel with little accuracy to the time period or characterization. Of Holmes and Watson - complete drivel shame on Netflix.
The Walking Dead: Splinter (2021)
Horrible boring nonsense
Can't believe anyone can give this worthless episode a 10 one of the most senseless and worthless episodes ever not advancing the plot super boring just plain lazy storytelling and writing
The Tunnel (2013)
Well done quirky character with other well written realistic characters
Excellent show with great character builds for protagonists and good supporting actors along with interesting plots.
