Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Nothing like the 70s or even 00s films.
I didn't hear much about this films release so I just went in blind. It was horrible, boring and the characters were the worst. I can only assume they're making more because of the end teaser of Leatherface going back to his proper home. So if that's true I hope they give us better actors, ones that you want to see survive. I always admired Jessica Biel's character from the 2003 film, she was a strong final girl.
Instead of bringing something to the franchise, this movie took from it. They played the trick of bringing back an original character but it was pointless. The town setting ruined it too. It did not feel like a Texas Chainsaw movie at all. It felt like a tv movie with a low budget.
W lesie dzis nie zasnie nikt II (2021)
Atmospheric Polish Horror but also wtf.
This was an odd one, I was a fan of the first film, it followed the basic slasher guideline but with a little supernatural twist. The characters were likeable. In this film it's immediately different, less focus on characters and half way through it becomes a weird warty romance...it's still okay, I guess? The effects are cool.
Masquerade (2021)
A below average home invasion.
The majority of the film is a girl crying and Bella Throne driving. The twist does pay off towards the end, it did take me a second to figure out what was going on..so that redeems it but overall a bit boring.
Old (2021)
Just watch the Trailer, it has everything in there.
I wouldn't be as upset if it was a really low budget TV movie but this was so bad for a feature film. I guess the director wanted to make a worse horror film than his infamous "The Happening".. I tried to give it some praise but the characters are dull, you don't relate or care for any. The dialogue is so bad too. I did however like the recasting as they aged and the beach is nice to look at. You're probably just better off watching an episode of "Lost".
Tape (2020)
It's not utter crap but actually a good delicate revenge flick
Okay I went into watching this believing it was going to be something like Starry Eyes (2014) but it's a very realistic, slightly unstable "me too" issue that struggling actors are subjected to. Sextortion in Hollywood. Slow pace and the male lead rambles about a lot of nonsense but I'm satisfied. Not an traditional entertaining watch but educational.
365 dni (2020)
She wears a bad wig.
I'm not even going to waste energy on this embarrassing mess. 2020 has been bad enough without Netflix making a very unrealistic erotica film with very questionable morals.
Dangerous Lies (2020)
Very boring and dull
If you want to watch a good film, just look up 90 thrillers, everything from that decade beats this.
Crawl (2019)
It's a "movie" not a gator documentary
Other reviewers need reminding that this is nothing more than an hour and a half of entertainment value. It doesn't have to display logical thought for every little action the characters take. Fair enough it has its plot holes, like most contained/predator film tend to have but does that make it a stupid film? Well no in my opinion it doesn't. I really thought it was enjoyable and I'm sure most others especially those who like this particular genre will too. The acting is good and believable. The main actress was very convincing and the setting was clever having the alligators show up during a bad storm.
Overall I was glued to the screen.
Destroyer (2018)
This film's premise has been achieve better in other past films
I went into this film not really knowing what case she was going to be tackling. I thought it was going to expose the gritty underground world of crime but instead it's a very generic bank heist gone wrong. Probably my fault for getting a bit too excited, especially after seeing Kidman's make-under.
Her character is not redeemable at all..she's basically just a greedy cop, her boyfriend/police partner was the decent one of the two, he even gave his life to save the teller girl. Are we suppose to feel empathetic to Kidman's character or just come to the realization that she's not a good person. I know that may be how she's intended to be perceived especially considering she just straight up shots the gang leader at the end.
It's too much of a slow paced drama and it's stale. None of the characters are given any screen time to develop. It's just the main protagonist walking around in constant pain and her speech is very low and mumbled (assuming from the booze). Everyone is praising Kidman but I did not see anything extraordinary. She looks the part but she doesn't show any emotion which leaves the viewers numb and unbothered whenever tragedy strikes.
I did enjoy two scenes, I liked the intro scene that turns out it's the final scene. I thought that was cleverly done. I also like the tiny bit of character development with the Russian Roulette scene.
Midsommar (2019)
Trying to achieve shock value but ultimately fails.
We have seen this film before in the form of The Wicker Man 1973. That film was unique, informative and shared a story of depravity in the name of paganism. It's was a shocking film because it built up a certain momentum and although characters where clearly disturbed, we as an audience still felt empathy and tried to embrace their unorthodox approach to life. The final act of The Wicker Man is shocking and the last few scenes can really stir up some serious nausea. Midsommar tries to replicate that feeling of utter disarray but falls flat and becomes predictable. Character development could have been used more. I did enjoy one or two major scenes and I thought they really got the claustrophobic intensity down to a tee. Some scenes tried to pull off the shock factor but anyone watching will probably just think to laugh to throw off their awkwardness or people may just think it's just a tad bit silly over all. It doesn't really come across horrific as I'm guessing it intended. The main actress is good, you can really see how immerse she becomes within the role of a foreigner trapped in a inescapable world.
Detainment (2018)
Spine-chilling
First review on imdb.
I watched the director on Irish prime time discussing the controversy that arise after the oscar nomination, and I was apprehensive to watch after the backlash that ensued. I have read both parents autobiography and although I think it's impossibe to feel the entirety of their pain, however you get a sense of just how disturbing/traumatizing those weeks after must have been. This short portrays that nauseating feeling very well. This film simply documents the words that came from boys mouths, nothing else. It does not exploit the situation for any entertainment. There is no nature vs nurture debate. Unbiased and real. 9/10
