.......that ending was a puzzler for me. Probably the most positive way to describe it would be "offbeat". This film is widely lauded, and I asked myself afterward, "was it worth seeing?"
I've always considered myself an armchair classic movie pro. Having opined over the years on dozens of the finest Hollywood has ever offered (and I dare you to find one person who cares) I had somehow let "Anatomy of a Murder" slip by, so I remedied that this evening.
Well. The talent in front of and behind the camera is not only abundant, it's legendary. The story is intriguing, if just a tad slow in a couple of spots; the script and performances are so good that you can believe Stewart and Scott are in fact lawyers, that Lee Remick and Ben Gazzara are actually an ill-matched couple, and that the whole show is real. Eve Arden and Arthur O'Connell make splendid sidekicks as well.
I was locked in till the very last scene, which kind of drops off a cliff--but fortunately, that didn't take away from the quality that came before it. Love Golden-Age Hollywood ? Then you should give this a watch, as a tip of the hat to all the talented people who created it.
