Great story and characterization of race in USofA
7 December 2021
This is well told but alas many here are actively criticizing the perspective they cannot bare to face on their own racism. I am white but have often been treated differently by some. The shame is that this movie shows the truth and all the nay sayers can only criticize it rather than using it as starting point for a better set of values for our broken society.

Terrible attempt at making a movie out of two stars.

where are Putin's censors ?
31 December 2019
Well it seems that evil Russian empire lets the directors and writers get away with a critic of the very oligarchs that have profited from Putin's ultra-capitalist policies... But this story is not very hopeful for would be revolutionaries. It seems that the moral goes something like : "Don't waste your time with revolutions, the only hope s to fend for yourself if you are strong enough or to stay put otherwise." So is this truly a free movie ?

Unexpectedly awesome show
9 March 2019
The series starts somewhat boringly because it doesn't feature the full depth of the universe that unfolds later and because overall the characters and story are not very imaginative. This said, the combination of exquisite imagery, good quality special effects and a rich universe makes it very fun to watch, beyond season 1 especially.

Where is the writer's courage and hope?
10 February 2018
Good very well-executed social study but what a shame the writer brings such a hopeless dark outlook to the ending. The young cast is first rate, well filmed, and well directed. The story is not original but definitely pushes the usual limits of the high school drama beyond the comfortable bounds of suburbia, all the way to Medellin, Colombia. This said, as one considers the sad realities of growing up underprivileged, do we really have to be convinced that wealthy youths do indeed live in a dream world, protected from responsibility and remorse by an immuable armor or money and privilege. Do we really have to believe that the hopeful middle-class teenagers have nothing to hope for than despair and boredom in future made of struggle and misery? I don't think so. Why waste your public's hopes and flush them down the toilets of despair? Move on from the clichés and start using your art to help shape the world rather than this sob fest over injustices and impossible futures. Where are America's balls?

Brilliantly aesthetic but shallow story
11 August 2013
No doubt we have again an aesthetic masterpiece from a generation of filmmakers who excels at stylish use of the moving image language and music. However the story is rather shallow and devoid of meaningful message other than: life is terribly bleak for London's estates dwellers. Time to reach into British literature's greats and bring out the real and powerful story-telling! The good: great acting, innovative photography, entertaining multi-story plot structure. The not so good: lack of impactful story, weak thematic content, needs a story-teller. My advice: see it but don't expect to remember more than the style and atmosphere, the story is weak.
