The Happening (2008)
Weak would be an understatement
To be honest i'm shocked and appalled at how terrible this movie was, even more shocking is i came out thinking that i had actually allowed myself to think that it might have been good despite the fact that bar his first two i hate all his movies.
The problems with this movie are innumerable(Script, acting,Outright storyline) but quite simply the only way that matters where it fails is that its not at all entertaining. I can sit back and enjoy a silly movie as much as everyone else but this had nothing, in fact id go as far as to say it has zero redeeming qualities which is a shame because the skeleton of the story is intriguing.
Mr. Shyamalan you can make movies, we've seen and liked them but please for all our sakes stop writing.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Spidey Review from premiere.
Ill be honest I'm not the biggest spidey fan in the world, never read the comics and the first two movies didn't blow me away but this...well this is something different entirely.
I was fortunate enough (as I'm management in a big cinema) to see this at its Irish premiere on the 18th and i must say i was finally blown away by a spiderman movie. Firstly it looks spectacular the previous movie looked brilliant as well but no 3 is so so superior. Secondly the acting for the most part was top notch, especially from the ensemble cast not so much Tobey(hes good just not an amazing performance). thirdly and most importantly this movie is Original, it seemed to drop a lot of clichés that re-emerged in the sequel which is brilliant.
So when may 4 rolls around everyone should go see this movie, it is by far the best spidey movie, you'll laugh a lot(This movie was absolutely hilarious in parts, ie Bruce Campbell. i was almost crying with laughter at times), you'll cry(if you're that way inclined) there's just everything in this movie, i was shocked at how much better this sequel was, you will be too.
Snakes on a Plane (2006)
surprisingly enjoyable....
If you like me were one of those people who said this movie sounds so ridiculous that there's no way i cant see it but secretly knew it would be awful then i think you'll be quite surprised.
At first i thought that it would be terrible cause it was a silly idea then i thought it would be terrible cause it had garnered so much unexpected publicity that the studio would make the film more serious then it could pull off but i must say after coming from a staff show of it that i felt it was quite tactfully pulled off considering the story they had to work with.
Sam Jackson, excellent as usual, always bringing colour to a part that otherwise would have be dull and i would like to say he carried the film but he really didn't the ensemble cast were all excellent in the roles with not one bad, token or in any way unnecessary character springing to mind, the script is well written and the direction while not the best, quite admirable in its small confines. My only problems with this movie is first and foremost the snakes are a bit.....well bad, they're cgi and not good cgi at that but it didn't in any way hinder my enjoyment I'm just not finding a lot of flaws worth pointing out. The only other thing i can think of and again will most likely not ruin the full enjoyment that anyone can get from this film but it is extremely violent, violence in movies doesn't bother me whatsoever except when its clearly there for the cringe factor which i felt a lot of the violent stuff in this movie was.
All in all though this is a violent, sometimes witty, enjoyable romp that went above and beyond my expectations. So, Snakes on a plane, it does exactly what it says on the tin!
