Outpost 37 (2014)
Enjoyable raw sci-fi
I have to admit I was a little skeptical when I sat down at home to watch this because most of what I read about it was not favorable, however I kept the usual open mind and switched on. One of the first things that caused a minor frown was seeing a 1950's built Bell chopper like those used during Vietnam still operating with the military in 2033, Very odd seeing an 80 year old helicopter still in active service, this was totally ridiculous but perhaps I am being too picky, maybe the US government couldn't afford to update them. Joking apart I decided to focus on the fact that this was a low budget movie and to behave myself. Anyway look at Pitch Black another low budget movie but now considered a classic by many including myself. Alien Outpost doesn't have a particularly original storyline or indeed style, acting was poor in places yet good in parts. Special effects were few but perfectly acceptable. Is this a great movie? No it isn't but it did do several things I require of any movie I watch and that is to keep my attention and entertained. Overall I found it very engaging and as it progressed, the characterizations became more interesting and a deeper sense of involvement and concern as to how things would turn out became more important to me. Although I didn't really recognize any of the actors which is not really an issue, the chap in charge, a Jean Claude Damme kind of (loosely lookalike amused me immensely. Will i ever watch this again? definitely
Warm Bodies (2013)
Humorous Zombie romantic comedy
After watching this movie I was keen to log on to IMDb to write up my review but now that I have seen so many reviews on here that basically cover most of what I wanted to say, I'll try and keep it brief. My expectation was not high as I don't particularly like the lead actor Nicholas Hoult, however a wry smile appeared on my face within a moment or two of the movie starting. Zombie movies are ten a penny and we all pretty much know what to expect. This is a little off the beaten track and it doesn't take very long to work out it's direction, however I found that this didn't distract me from the movie and settled in nicely to see how it would progress. No spoilers here but suffice to say movies are all about entertainment and this one entertained me thoroughly. I enjoyed this immensely, while some of the special effects could have been better, the direction was thoughtful and visuals not overly dark. For an offbeat zombie this is a watcher even if you don't wish to own it. Miss is and miss out!.
Coffin Baby (2013)
Gore Splastic
Hmmm, where to start and end with this one. I'm not anti horror I enjoy horror but this one apart from being incredibly lame storyline wise seems to be an excuse for the special effects department to offer their splattering s to us the audience in blooded bucketful's. What kind of brain thinks up this sick nonsense? Seriously it really concerns me that this sort of film is even made. Trouble is making comments like this only tends to fuel the fascination, ergo adding appeal to the curious and perhaps not so balanced minded person. However, I did sit through this messy production in all senses of the word. If you like wading through an intestinal and cannibalistic horror movie I guess this will be right up your street. Pity that such a good director was involved in this mess.
