breezy movie, definitely worth one viewing at least

Warning: Spoilers
Not the greatest movie, but not as bad as some comments have made it out to be.

Story seems to have been 'inspired'/copied/lifted from couple of Hollywood movies....but Siddharth Anand has presented it in his own Bollywoodian style to suit Indian tastes.

It does lag in some parts of the movie and some songs are extraneous...Bipashas for example and the bhangra song.

The guys are gonna love this becoz it stars three beautiful women and the gals are gonna love this becoz it has Ranbir, young handsome and very attractive persona.

I would say the highlight of the movie are the locations...they show Switzerland, Greece, Italy (Capri no less), and Sydney and have picked the most picturesque spots painstakingly...another job painstakingly done is the songs...a couple are absolute crowd pleasers and have been shot excellently...highlighting the youthful casts looks and appeal to maximum effect.

Whats nice about the story is the comedy throughout even during the more serious parts....so it doesn't become maudlin....

I think of the three girls Bipasha looked the most glamorous...and acted best....Minissha is good and looks nice, Deepika is too obviously a rookie here, doesn't hav too much of a role and looks plain...

Ranbirs chemistry is the hottest with Bipasha...and yes, Ranbir gets to kiss all three girls separately.

His dancing skills are put on display and his acting too is very adequate ....one can tell it comes to him naturally....after he is the offspring of two wonderful actors I bet my money on this one because the youth will turn out in droves to watch it...

Entertaining!

I don't know why people are criticizing it. I loved it. I haven't read any of the books. Maybe i didn't have to compare it with those.

I loved everything about the movie; except maybe i didn't find the mice and lion animation very realistic..they could have been better.

Locations took me out of this world the way it was meant to.

Thought the battle scenes a little frightening for a very young child.

The acting was adequate. Given their roles.

I recommend everyone see this movie. It is definitely worth the ticket. If one does not forget that this is essentially a children's film but which all genres can enjoy; you will like it.

Warning: Spoilers
Let me baldly state - this is a movie which only people will find watchable if they leave their brains behind at home for three hours.

I went to watch because i am not in the mood to watch intense emotional films and thought I'd enjoy an out and out entertainer, but unfortunately my IQ was still functioning at a minimal level and this movie was an insult to it.

The innumerable plots and twists lost their tang because of the frequency with which they hit the viewer; one said, "okay i can expect another twist to this case, and yes, here it would come...and yet another and yet another...." until you simply didn't care any more.

I don't know about others, i found the ending predictable or lets say, the outcome. Even there, Abbas Mastan tried to confuse the poor bewildered befuddled viewer with some more twists and turns.

In an entertainer songs are normally the draw; here - no such luck, they were mediocre and the song sequences even more so. And I must say, i don't know what the director was doing with the placements of the songs in the movie, a kinda serious situation, and viola, a raunchy song right in the middle, huh? Anil Kapoor and Katrina were terrible for different reasons, see the movie yourself if you want to to know. Hint - AK for vulgarity and crassness Sameera was given terrible stuff to do, but you cant blame her for that, she did what she was told to do.

Good Points in the movie South Africa - you get a nice tour guide via the cinematographer Acting - Saif and Akshay - you cant choose between them, they're brilliant

Glamour quotient - in the form of Bipasha who also acts well and is very restrained in her acting which was refreshing and Katrina who looks good but lets not talk about her dialogue delivery and acting.

Best things about movie?

1) Johnny Lever - his three minutes of being in the movie

2) The song - the romantic ballad Jab se shot with Akshaye and Bipasha

Don (I) (2006)
visually pleasing glossy good entertainer!!!

You want a hunky shahrukh khan, a va va voom Priyanka who seems to have worked out like hell to get that figure; an angel faced Isha Koppikar, FANTASTIC shots of Malaysia and i say FANTASTIC, a wonderfully underplayed intense performance by a mesmerizingly handsome Arjun Rampal slick action sequences and an as usual highly entertaining and effective performance by Boman Irani ......go see Don.

Oh and the song picturisations are very good too...especially title track and Khaike Paan Banaraswala....

Bear in mind this is an action packed remake of a thriller and also made purely to entertain...so don't go nitpicking small details like people did in the case of Fanaah....sit back sip on your coke, chomp on your popcorn and enjoy!

No one reveal the ending please.....let the others enjoy as i did the twist in the end!!!

Only for the discerning movie goer
4 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is dark, brooding, violent. The subject is such. A tale of revenge. Direction was good but i found the movie crept at snails pace and since there weren't subtitles i couldn't understand most of the dialogues since its in this funny dialect. Photography excellent. Do the villagers in this area really swear with every sentence? And does every couple pop into bed with their partner at every given opportunity before marriage? Of course the star cast was the main draw. As everyone but everyone knows by now Saif is the show stealer in the movie with a very stellar performance from Naseeruddin who rises above his role. Konkona Sen was a pleasure to watch - her naturalness as an actress just hits you in the face and makes you smile. Bipasha astounded by her sensuality and dance ability and her two dance numbers liven up the pace considerably in an otherwise morbid film. Vivek was good in his role; Kareena was just about adequate in hers but i must say the chemistry between Ajay Devgan and Kareena is minus 0. Couldn't help thinking maybe Aishwarya could have been a more convincing Desdemona for Ajay Devgan. Ajay Devgan gave an uncharacteristically lacklustre performance. But however well the other actors performed the brilliance of Saifs cruel crafty ruthless Langda overshadows everyone and the movie.

I know discerning movie goers who love movies for arts sakes will love this film but please if you like light frothy tales and non violence this is NOT the movie for you. Also maybe those with families will not want to watch this with relatives as it has a lot of lewd expletives throughout the movie and lots of lovemaking scenes.

Loved it ....
28 May 2006
It tickled me no end to read some viewers comment that a Kashmiri Muslim girl fell in love and allowed a man to bed her in a span of 8 days romance. They thought it slightly implausible. This might have held true for some two decades back but not nowadays. We have to understand Zooni (Kajol) came from a fairly modern family (she was no village bumpkin) in the movie and the apple of her parents eye. More so because she was blind and her mother always encouraged her to look forward to her Prince Charming the day he arrived. She was this inexperienced girl full of ideas of romance and blind to boot and Aamirs winsome voice and poetry won her over and she just went into the relationship headstrong girl that she was knowing and accepting that there might never be anything permanent (she just wanted to live for those 8 days she was able to be romanced by the person she was besotted with) a very common occurrence actually in todays scenario.

The story of a man torn between love and duty might be hackneyed but I sure as hell didn't know how it was all going to end and was eager to sit through the whole film and watch it to the very end. I don't know how some people thought the first 90 minutes was horrible and the rest even more so! I found the first half extremely entertaining and the second half was a pleasure to watch just for the sheer pleasure of watching two very high class actors perform as they never have.

Kunal Kohli is an extremely sensitive director and while there may have been slip ups in pace here and there (it was an emotional rather than an action packed movie after all) on the whole the movie shows a director of competence and someone who has a very bright future.

The cinematography is breathtaking and the supporting cast of Rishi Kapoor and Tabu adds to the movies worth. Rishi especially is brilliant.

But the movies strongest point is the performance of the two lead actors especially Kajol who had the more author backed role. Kajol and Aamirs chemistry leave you wondering WHY they never acted together before. And they look so good its hard to imagine Kajols a mom and Aamir a divorced dad of two.
