Genius (2017)
Shocking Errors
Although the production is obviously outstanding, there are two gross errors that are surprising. Since I am binge watching, cannot be sure of which episodes these errors occurred: 1. Young Einstein in a lab refers to Mozart and the metronome. All of Mozartz compositions pre dated the invention of the metronome. Perhaps Beethoven would be the appropriate composer since his 8th symphony is often referred to as an homage to the "Metronome." 2. His fiancée states that physics is not her "for-tay." This word consists of volume or loudness. It is a very common misuse of the word by Americans (maybe English as well), but the word is "fort" as in "strength", not loudness. However, it seems fort may be spelled forte.
I Hate Valentine's Day (2009)
This Movie Should Be Banned
My only hesitations about writing a review is first, I watched it, and second, I did not have a zero stars choice.
Based on the Supreme Court definition, this movie is pornography, i.e., totally without redeeming social value. On the other hand, I should move to Brazil because someone gave it four stars. What is in the water there?
Who is Nia Vardalos? She "starred" in, wrote and either she is a gillionaire who financed this movie, or has a very rich husband/lover who put up the money, or has friends whom everyone should have.
The movie is totally inane. On the other hand, presumably, it provided employment for a whole bunch of people in a time of economic need. So I guess I can justify one star after all.
Closer (2004)
Great Disappointment
I love Mike Nichols, Natalie Portman, and Julia Roberts is OK too, so this was a gigantic let down. The reviewers say it is witty; I find nothing witty about the crass reference to sexual acts. And don't think I am a prude. But it was totally gratuitous, unnecessary and unimaginative potty talk. It is impossible to feel anything but contempt for the characters (except for Alice/Jane/Portman). They are all shallow and lacking in character--except for A/J/P. This movie is based upon a Tony Award winning play (1999). I have no idea why it is so heralded. Screenplay is credited to the playwright--it last five months on Broadway. For once, I think the public tells the real story.
