Apocalypse (1998)
World ends, details at 11
This is a dreadful jumble of bad writing, bad cinematography, and laughably bad acting. Time is short, so don't waste any of it trying to watch this "movie".
Shaka Zulu (1986)
Too rich in detail, too confusing to follow
Although the scenes of Zulu tribal life were rich in detail, there was too much emphasis on the rituals of the tribe. One might think that all the Zulu did was engage in constant ritual and unending festival. The storyline switches from the introduction of the English to the pre-birth of Shaka with little explanatory background. This was docu-drama and not a documentary, but a certain amount of geographical and historical reference to the rest of Africa might have helped. The most difficult aspect of this mini-series was the highly accented English of the performers illustrating the need for subtitles, which were absent from both the original production, and the DVD version. Perhaps if I had been able to understand the dialog better, the story would have been easier to follow.
Point of No Return (1993)
Excellent for Bridget Fonda fans
I have read all the other comments here, and I have seen this film at least 10 times. Agreed, the acting and plot are not Academy Award caliber, but Bridget Fonda is one of the sexiest women in films today. The plot is lame and the characters are two-dimensional but Byrnes' understated performance and Fondas' reformed addict are (if not believable, at least enjoyable) characters. I have tried to watch "La Femme Nikita" in both dubbed and sub-titled versions and have been bored to tears. I love to watch Bridget Fonda in anything she is in, she is certainly a beautiful and talented actor. I enjoyed her performances in "Single White Female" and also " The Road to Wellville". While "Point of No Return" does not contain much suspense, the background music and under-scoring add a lot to the flow of the story-line.
