Family Guy (1999– )
Probably the first negative review in a long time
27 December 2004
Sorry, but I just don't understand, how could people think this is better than the simpsons? The simpsons is a classic, this doesn't even deserved to be mentioned in the same sentence as the simpsons. I don't know how people would find this funny. The simpsons and Family guy was sort of similar in that it makes fun of the society. The simpsons is offensive but it's funny. I never laugh once at family guy's episodes. I don't like the evil baby, don't like the mom the dad or the daughter, the only one i can bear is the talking dog.And I don't laugh at any of the intended jokes, i rather have homer's "oooh...doughnut" anytime. The Simpsons is witty, hilarious and have some heart and soul in it. I like it that even though Homer is selfish, greedy and lazy but he truly loves his family and that makes him lovable. There's some kind of depth in the series. The characters in family guy is just annoying. In my opinion, this tried to be in the same standard as the simpsons but failed miserably. This is just a shallow piece of garbage which tried to offend as many people as possible.I find it an insult to even compare it to the simpsons. Sorry, but that's just the way i feel.

I admit it!!! I loved this show!!!
16 December 2004
I have a confession to make : I'm 16 and I loved this show, been watching it since i was 10 (much too old for this kind of show)Of course it's a kiddy show so there's no exciting plot lines and i already know most of what it's teaching. But It's so entertaining, the songs, the characters. I loved bear, he's so huggable and adorable. Tudder's hilarious so are pip and pop. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the scenes and going 'awwww' at others. The way they teach, it makes it easy for the younger kids to catch it, with songs, examples, stories etc. And they teach the more important things: like sharing, forgiving, being a good friend, good sportsmanship, discovering the world around you etc. this is one show!! It's not boring for the older audience too, it's funny and witty. Overall, this is an excellent show for the young and the young at heart.

Mixed feelings
15 December 2004
The beginning of this film is delightful, it's fast paced, funny and the set and costumes look fabulous. the middle section is great too. Rene was great, Ewan Mcgregor was as charming as ever, and i was amazed by all his performances. David Hyde Pierce was hilarious, but he plays a similar character to Niles crane in frasier. the first half of the movie was just bliss. But it took a nasty turn towards the end, i don't want to spoil the movie too much but the ending is not what i expected. It becomes too confusing, to bizarre, i'll rather have an old fashioned ending than this. I dunno, it's just complicates the movie too much, and i ended up with a weird taste after i watch this rather than being satisfied.

Romantic Fantasy
9 December 2004
If you are sitting beside me the day i was watching this film, you would hear me going 'awwww..' throughout the whole movie. Just like the first film, some scenes are so sweet (esp. with charming Colin Firth) This is truly a chick flick. One where women can just be swept away and forget about the reality. Hugh Grant is a bonus, my friend can't get over how sexy he looks on the film. It's not as funny as the first one because some of the jokes are old. There's some witty ones though, but most of them are repeats of bridget jones 1. There's more of Mark Darcy this time around (and i'm glad of that)and Renee is still amazing as bridget jones, i can't imagine anyone else playing her. It's just incredibly sweet. It's just when you can go to the cinema, enjoy and not think to much, it's a joyful romantic fantasy ride, really, because we know there's no perfect man like Mark Darcy. I wish I have a boyfriend like him, but alas, a wish is just a wish. 7 out of 10

Subtle but Unsettling
9 December 2004
For a first time movie director(kormanek) he did an amazing job, and to get Robin Williams to star in it, wow. Robin is incredibly pathetic as Sy Parrish, don't get me wrong, that's a compliment. Sy is supposed to be pathetic, he is supposed to make us pity him. What is amazing however, Robin managed to be eerie as well, so he puts us in a spot, we want to sympathies with him, but we cant, not really, because he is so disturbingly scary. It just shows how good an actor, Robin is. The cinematography is great too, the colour combination for example, it's so detailed and it has a dreamlike quality to them. How each scene played out, its beautiful. Kudos to Kormanek. This is different from any other thriller because the 'pyscho' is really humane, we can understand why he did what he did, actually, in the last scene, i just want to go over and hug him, there's this desperation in him, a need to be loved just like any other human being, all this is so subtly shown in the film. The actors didn't say anything particularly revealing. It's just the looks in Sy's eyes, the way he speaks, the body languages, it's so cleverly subtle that's what makes it more disturbing. I thought this film is going to be scary, with lots of gore and blood, i was pleasantly surprised, in fact, i didn't find this movie all that scary at all, it's more unsettling than scary. This movie got me thinking long after it's finished.

Absolutely Beautiful
8 December 2004
Pity I didn't know anything about this movie when it came out in 97, I would've enjoyed watching it in the big screen instead of on my laptop screen. I've never been more inspired by any movie. This is an absolutely beautiful piece of art, from the scenery, the colours, everything. Ethan Hawke is fast becoming one of my favourite actors. His performance always lift me up. I know he almost play similar roles every time, i'll like him to play a different role actually, but in every movies he starred in (Dead poet's society, Great Expectations etc) i found that i always cared for his character and his performances never failed to touch me. Jude law is amazing as Jerome Morrow, I thought Uma thurman's character should be more developed, but she's perfect as irene. 8 out of 10. There's no gene for the human spirit.

Unbreakable (2000)
Not a good movie (Possible SPOILER)
7 December 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I can't believe this movie gets a higher rating than the village. OK, after thinking about it, i get the story of unbreakable and i understand what it's trying to say. I do think the plot and the idea is captivating and interesting. Having said that, i don't think the director did anything to make this movie captivating nor interesting. It seemed to try too hard to make this movie a riddle for the audience to solve. The pace was slow at the beginning and ended just as it was getting faster. I remember going out of the cinema, feeling frustrated and confused. it's not until i thoroughly thought about it that i understood the plot. I believe a good movie should engaged the audience and be cleverly suspenseful without confusing the audience too much. Unbreakable tried to be that but failed miserably. 2 out of 10, see the village instead.
