Snakes on a Plane (2006)
Proof of the Dumbing Down of America as evident in the Hollywood Movie Machine
Was Samuel L. so bored that he decided to be a party to this load of crap? Sammy, I love your films but come ON!!!! What was the point of this movie for you? Were you needing some extra cash for something or what? Geez, I couldn't even get that many laughs from all the campy snake scenes, horrible writing, awful acting from most of the "actors". I thought the special effects were so obviously fake that I'd laugh every time a snake lunged at someone. Was their budget short for CGI in this flick?
The fact that people keep rating it so highly proves the dumbing down of America continues in this dumb ass, unoriginal, boring, laughable, piece of manure. This movie didn't even qualify for "mindless entertainment". I know it's only a movie but still....
God help us all!
Parenthood (1989)
The ending was just too cheesy! C'mon!!
I would have rated this movie higher but the ending is what spoiled it for me. Everyone has a brand new baby to raise. Yippee!!! The answer to all their "problems, prayers, etc..." Otherwise, if only one set of parents had a baby and the rest did not, then the others couldn't lead fulfilled productive lives with all that they had right then? Right? Is that the message here? More means better? I found the ending incredibly cheesy after watching this otherwise poignant, often funny, and as true to life of a "parenting" movie I've seen. Great performances particularly by Jason Robards and Dianne Wiest.
I wonder what would happen if the Buckmans had decided on an abortion. Gee, that would have really been hard to keep the lighter comedic element going. And for those parents who have "only" children, the message is, that's just not good enough folks. The only child character of the Huffner's was only "strange" because of the parenting she was getting from freaky Huffner, played by Moranis. So, if his wife was so worried about how he's raising their child, why is she insistent they have another one, and soon!!! Where is the logic there?
I realize this movie was intended to be more of a "feel good" movie for parents, and families, young and old alike. It was just too formulaic and predictable and the ending was the real kicker. The movie was called "Parenthood" for a reason and gee, I guess the only ending could be one with a new crop of babies for everyone!!
Hollywood Homicide (2003)
Painful to watch
I've seen every movie Harrison Ford has done. I consider him to be in my top 5 of best male contemporary actors. I found this movie however to be so unwatchable, I literally couldn't finish watching it!!! The writing, the dialog, the acting!!!! How could this be? OK, all actors are entitled to a bad film once in a while.
Like many have said the movie comes across as not being sure what genre it is or isn't. The worst part for me was watching Harrison Ford during chase scenes. It looked to me as though his arthritis was acting up. It was so distracting and I was embarrassed for him. I have seen plenty of aging actors take on physical roles that of course they're not as fast or as agile as their younger counterparts, but they didn't move with such rigidity and pain that it became a distraction in itself. YIKES! I understand that his character did real estate on the side. He looked more like an aging real estate agent who was forced into doing something physical that he's not accustomed to doing, like a cop chasing suspects.
Josh Hartnett was also forgettable in this disaster and looked completely bored most of the time. I can't comment on the entire picture, just the part I watched, and that.......was enough.
