Memoria (2021)
A truely distinguished work of art
I usually don't post reviews on here... I'm not a film critic. But I like to read what others think about certain movies. And it made me sad to see so many negative reviews for this movie that I came to write this short review.
First of all, if you expect the usual hollywood bs with loud noises, shallow dialogues and never ending action with an american flag planted somewhere in the movie, this movie is not for you. If you, however, like the works of David Lynch for instance, this is your stuff. The director did an amazing job with the visuals, but the real strength - and I'll make a bold claim here - is the never-seen-before sound design of this movie. You have to watch it with a good pair of headphones to do it justice. It achieved something for me only Lynch did before - to make me feel those very personal emotions, fears and thoughts, that are hard to put into words through visual cues, auditory impulses and great acting. At times, I felt like the director / writer knew exactly what was going on in my head in certain situations... like that uncanny feeling when you wake up with a loud noise... You were sleeping when you heard it, but it made you wake up and you try to "remember" what that sound was to put into context...
People complained about how slow and dragged out some scenes are.. isn't that what our life actually is in the middle of the night, or in a hospital room, or on a dark street in a bustling city with its droning noise? I found the scenes to be exactly portraying those moments, and that's fine. I'm so tired of this "instant gratification" culture where everything has to happen now. People have no patience anymore. For those that didn't like this movie, I suggest them to go back to their tik toks and twitter for their shot of dopamine. They won't find it here.
I'll probably watch it at least once more, that's all I can say about how good it was.
Westworld (2016)
I don't understand all the hate for S3 here
OK, I agree Season 1 was the best... Season 2 was as great in terms of music, acting and production, maybe a bit too complicated, but that is my favorite part about the series anyway.
I was a bit surprised to see all the bad comments here, this show surpasses any other even in S3, for me. It still asks the unfathomable questions like a good sci-fi should, and everything else is still top notch (music, acting, etc)... There are some moments where it felt a bit rushed, and a few loose ends more than usual, but I still loved it. Maybe I like this show too much to be objective, but this is not a professional critique, just my subjective feelings about the show. :)
Cam (2018)
Second review in 18 yrs of membership to save others
Don't watch it. This is what happens when they forget how to tie up the loose ends and present a conclusion to the story. Horrible ending, these netflix movies are huge waste of time, one after another. Don't take the bait and believe in comments saying this looks like black mirror, it has no resemblance, whatsoever! I guess we just have to wait for honest reviews to water down the suspiciously positive ones for such garbage before we watch another netflix film, if ever!
Voltron: Legendary Defender (2016)
Perfect remake!
This used to be my childhood favorite. I was a bit skeptical at first, assuming I would watch a few episodes and that would be it, but the sci-fi concepts are quite fresh and story telling is captivating. I loved all the seasons (especially the episode "Hunted" in S5, but Season 7 was beyond my expectations. I can't wait for Season 8! Well done!!! (and the music is awesome, too!!!!)
