The First Purge (2018)
Really good.
When I read the review page (after seeing the film) the first 20 reviews had only one star. What I was thinking is: Did we all watch the same movie?
This is one of the best prequels I've seen. Honestly I gave it the same vote as I gave the first movie.
It shows perfectly how The Purge became what it is.
New political direction, new political party, needed to do the experiment somewhere so they chose Staten Island. It is said in the beginning that people who had enough money got out before the experiment started, so the poor people remained. Obviously.
When the experiment did not go as planned, the New Founding Fathers arranged to bring mercenaries so that their project don't fail and that they could still be in power.
Still very logical. Because they were in black neighbourhoods the mercenaries were dressed as KKK or SS.
NFF succeeded and remained in power (as we know because of the first Purge movie).
Everything in this movie is very logical in terms of prequel necessities.
Honestly, I do not understand why people get so insulted by everything.
If something like Purge was to happen next year I bet this is exactly how it would play out. Or similar.
The acting in the movie was okay. Nothing special.
The movie was exciting enough to make you root for the little people, even for the local gangster.
I applaud especially the costume designers because they manage to make the masks more scary with each movie. They were amazing and brought new scare just when we thought we have already seen it all.
Birdland (2018)
Boring.
Don't even now where to begin. I wanted to turn it off on so many occasions, but my philosophy is that one cannot rate or comment on something if it hasn't seen until the end, so I endured. The movie is only one hour and a half long but to me it seems like I've spent the whole year watching it. The acting is nothing exceptional, the script is terribly boring, and I only gave this movie a 2 because of a decent visuals. Seriously, save yourself a year of your life because this is how long this movie is.
Ingrid Goes West (2017)
Good.
I see most of the reviews on here that gave this movie a low rate say it is because it wasn't funny. Honestly I think the problem are the expectations. It says that a movie is comedy but it is not. It should say only drama. Obviously it has some funny moments, but it is dark comedy. The movie cannot be put under the comedy genre. If you look at it as a drama, what it actually is, you will see that it is a really good movie.
It shows the dark reality. The obsession with social networks, like Instagram and the problems that come when people become dependent with it.
I personally loved the movie. It was well made, it was complex, it has an interesting ending, I definitely recommend it.
Jeruzalem (2015)
1/10.
As a big fan of horror movies I have to say I watch them a lot. And of all kinds. And this one in my opinion is a complete disaster. I decided to write my first review just to warn everybody what are they getting themselves into. First of all, I did not like the Google Glasses concept, there were so many distractions, so many unnecessary movement, so many black screens because of it, and it made me hate the protagonist. She constantly cried and was rather sloppy, kept falling over things and made stupid decisions, like remaining alone in a asylum to save a guy she knew for three days, and dragging her infected friend along (which I kind of get it, but still). There were also no scenes that could scare you, there was no excitement whatsoever, the zombies were rather boring, the whole dead brother story made no contribution to the movie, except at the end that I was just waiting to come. Anyway if you are a horror fan or just a movie fan, or just a person who is looking for something interesting to watch, skip this one and save yourself an hour and a half of your life. Because this movie does not deserve an audience.
Howl (2015)
No, no, no and no.
What to say? Terrible camera work, lots of really annoying, spoiled, mean, rude and basically unlikable characters that you just want to die. Bad designed werewolves, not scary at all. Stupid script where people exit the train and enter the woods even though they said they were going to follow the tracks. And of course there is always that one person who wanders into the woods alone (even though he already KNOWS there are werewolves inside) and says: Hello? So yeah, it is bad. Nothing scary, nothing to root for. The idea of train stuck in the middle of the woods and get attacked by the group of werewolves is good, but the realization is just bad.
