Persepolis (2007)
powerful and painful
as a young Turkish woman, Persepolis hurts me a lot.. a perfect movie but a painful experience for us. i can see the Islamic revolution step by step which might occur in turkey soon. (hope won't but..)
domination of new system, cruelty and blood... a war and a revolution... massacre of communists and antagonists. women who forced to believe that hiding behind the veil is freedom. the secret parties, punk cassettes at black market as resistance.. the fall of great Persian culture...
i admire Marjane's intelligence, talent and courage. i love you sister!
congrats...
Beyza'nin Kadinlari (2006)
Copy Paste Script, perfect acting of Demet Evgar
Here it is..Another copy paste script by Altioklar. Think about "CSI" sets in Istanbul, lets name it "CSI:Istanbul", add "The Butterfly Effect" and for the sauce add a little bit "Saw". Shake well and serve cold. Beside the logical mistakes, the movie does not answer all the questions which has to answer. Time duration is too long, it was such a big mistake to last the movie 30 minutes more when the audience get who is the killer. Performance of Tamer Karadagli was exaggerated and not original. Just a copy of the character Horatio Caine (CSI:Miami). The only attractive thing in the movie was Demet Evgar's performance. This woman is sparkling!
Finally, this movie could be a TV movie easily but on the theaters...i don't think so...
Oyun (2005)
Cute and intense..what else you need?
Pelin Esmer's documentary movie is full of fun, reality and wisdom. Non-educated (not ignorant just non educated) but very wise 9 women and their passion of 'to be able to change something'. Being 'real' makes the movie very powerful. Pelin Esmer had made a simple movie with low opportunities but created a movie just tastes like your grandma's cookies. Something familiar, something close to you even if you'll never been to a village. This is the documentary of hope, wisdom and ambition. This is the story of an idealist teacher. This is the story of wise and intelligent women. Bravo to these women! Bravo to that teacher! And..at least and the most..BRAVO Pelin Esmer!
Caché (2005)
What are you hiding behind you?
How long can you hide your untold, dark past? You may have a good job, a nice wife/husband, a clever kid, a beautiful house, a nice car and elite friends. But how about your past? Did you leave something dark? Oh, did you forget it? Really left behind? What if someone "reminds" it? Are you ready to face your "crime" ? Are you ready for your "punisment" ? This time you won't be able to escape. You have to be the witness of your crime.
This is what i get from the movie, now i am asking; How intolerant are we to the "other" ? Could "intolarance" be the "discrimination" itself?
We don't want to share anything which belongs to us with them. Do we?
Cache slapped middle-class.... slapped me...must have slapped you too.
Haneke did well.
Hair (1979)
Let the sun shine in!
Gorgeous, amazing and stunning! The best musical can ever be seen. Why the best? Just because the intelligence of Milos Forman, perfect acting performances of the cast and of course the awesome soundtrack. And, Oh that mind-blowing dance scenes!! This movie is a product of a great team work. The director, the choreographer, the composers, the cast and the technical team.
Beside these, this movie can easily classified as timeless. Might be seen as 60's movie but the issues which set on the movie still stays on (At London HAIR musical will be acted on theaters, a revised version with issues just as gulf war-2 and bird-flu). Not only being glorious but also is strong and politic. Must be seen by all cinema-lovers and 60's addicts.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Trust can change one's side
When i learned that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight, i asked my self why he had chosen the dark side? This third episode tells this story, tells why Anakin, the chosen one, turned to a Sith Lord. But i'm not convinced with the cause about Padme. The Jedi Council had never trusted Anakin and this situation had pushed Anakin to the dark side. If the Jedi Council had trusted Anakin may be he wouldn't have chosen the dark side. This episode was absolutely weaker than the other ones. Just telling why Anakin had changed and what happens him. The tragic point was death of Padme despite Anakin's tries to protect her from death she dies because of Anakin's side changing. This was a desperate chain, he knows Padme will die, changes his side to prevent her death but she dies because of this swap.
Not one of the best of the series but must be seen by fans of SW.
Ôdishon (1999)
kiri kiri kiri
Do you really feel irritated while watching the torture scenes? I think the real torture scenes were the audition scenes. A rich widower who is a well-known man in society is seeking a woman, a woman who is quite perfect. Then he founds his servant, innocent as a white dove, beautiful and gentle. Might she be his death angel? The point is, our man chooses a "looser" (former ballerina who quited dancing because of injury) to manipulate her better. The real horror is this inequality in Japanese society. The torture scenes? forget it! most of us have seen better scenes... In addition i think that these torture scenes are metaphors of the conflict of the conditions of the man and the woman in Japanese society.
La mala educación (2004)
this time Almodovar tells HIS story
People who like Almodovar movies might have disappointed. Because this movie is not funny, not colorful as the previous ones. This is Almodovar's past. I can't say that i totally liked the movie. When i compare it with "Hable con ella" it is easy to see that "La mala educacion" is one step behind "Hable con ella".
And one thing that really disturbs me is the way almodovar shows " Padre". Almodovar doesn't makes us feel angry to "Padre". But there is a sexual abuse of little boys. Even this abuse changed whole life and choices of these children, the movie doesn't makes you angry. People could fall in love, could live homosexual relationships that's o.k. but child abuse can't be shown as "love". I hope in following years we can see better Almodovar movies.
