Kickassia (2010 Video)
10/10
I laughed out loud, therefore it kicked ass.

This isn't a major movie production. This was a special episode on That Guy With The Glasses featuring most of the members of the website. It doesn't even belong on IMDb, so not sure why it's here.

If you don't understand the inside jokes, you won't like it. But I laughed out loud almost continuously. Some of the acting is horrendous, but, again, it's a parody, and most of the time it's on purpose.

That said, Brad Jones steals the show with this movie. I could see him starring in an actual bigger budget movie. He is made of rule and epicness.

I give this movie a 9, because I rate comedies on how much they make me laugh, and this one gets a 9. I 'got' almost every joke, having watched pretty much everything on the website, and it was almost always well done.

Win!

Splice (2009)
7/10
Good halfway through, disturbing in a good way.

Warning: Spoilers
As a big fan of Vincenzo Natali I really could not wait for this movie to come out. Natali has made a series of somewhat low budget but cerebral and brilliant movies that have always managed to surprise me, especially from an aesthetic point of view. Natali has a passion for shapes and patterns, and it shows. In a lot of his movies, a city is a repetitive grid of simple shapes, like a monolithic machine. His representation of a mental prison in Cube is marked by patterns and the repetition of form. In the movie Nothing, he made a pass at shapelessness and absence.

Unfortunately, Splice, a collaboration with Guillermo del Toro loses some of that aesthetic quality, which is replaced with a more traditional Hollywood style. There is a distinct biological, David Cronenberg inspiration and theme throughout the film, and it often becomes disturbing.

The movie deals with somewhat sensitive (and potentially offensive) themes that haven't really been addressed in a lot of movies, such as inter-species intercourse, rape and breeding. It deals with the subject of hermaphroditic human life and gender identity. It is definitely bound to offend audiences used to every day Hollywood blockbusters.

The movie, unfortunately, while being an intellectual and stimulating experience about half way through, it takes a turn for the worse towards the end. This change doesn't completely ruin the movie, as it redeems itself in it's conclusion, but don't expect to leave the theater undisturbed. It doesn't have a happy ending.

It gets a 7 from me. I would rate Natali's other movies a full 10, but this one could have been better.

Rises the same hight as giants as LOTR and The Matrix

Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler!! SPOILER!! SPOILER!!

I just saw this movie after months of painful waiting. I have seen all the other movies and I be a big Science-Fiction addict.

I don't know why you people keep busting up this movie just because the dialog kind of sucked! The political intrigue, the complexity of the whole plot and that feeling of "it all came crashing down" when the ambush started just made me forget about this world and almost shed a tear for the republic.

No matter how cheesy the dialog is, any movie that has success in transmitting a sentiment to the viewer, be it sad or happy, is a GOOD movie, and this one sure did.

It's dark and surreal.

When it ended, everyone left and I almost forgot to stand up from the chair, I was speechless and still in the movie :-)

I kept mumbling "I've never seen anything like this... how can this movie exist?".

Think past these minor flaws that only amateurs take into consideration and praise this movie for it's Asimov worthy idea and sentiment.

I watched as the movie slowly turned from the lame atmosphere of the last two prequels to the dark and merciful atmosphere of the early episodes, until it finally bridged this gap with the creation of the death star in the end.

10/10... i'm still trying to decide if this is the BEST movie EVER...
