Patriots Day (2016)
Solid film about a tragic event.
I believe this film was a solid film probably as good as films like this can get. Movies about this can only get so good. I enjoyed the fictional officer mark whalberg portrayed. He played a bad attitude seargent detective. He was facing suspension which had his hat acted be put in uniform but still high up enough in the ranks to communicate in the FBI building. This allowed us to see kinda two sides of how the manhunt went down. I do wish we could see a little more with the investigation and how they narrowed in on the bombers but we do see some of that which is good. The movie was exciting, acting was acceprional, the Bomb scene was excellent. They did a good job of really putting the horror and misery of the bomb into the movie showing how awful the act really was. I don't think dragged on which I was afraid of going into so I was glad about that. I did however have a few minor problems. One was about how they portrayed one of the tsarnev brothers. They portrayed the younger one the college kid as being too influenced by the brother. Although I do believe he was heavily influenced by the older brother they madden him out to be a good kid almost. They made him try to seem almost non violent and just a normal college kid like somebody you'd go to the bar with. I didn't like that because I believe anyone who does an act like this is not normal or chill but violent and insane. Overall the movie was good and I would go watch it again.
Boyhood (2014)
Dull; unexciting movie
I will start off with the positives why I gave this movie any rating at all. To start off I enjoy and respect the project. I enjoy the attempt to create a unique movie with a unique style of taking years to film the development of one actor instead of using multiple. I also thought while the majority of the movie was boring and uneventful I thought their were some glimmers of hope. I also admit I like Ethan hawke and thought he did well so they deserve credit for that as well as the mother she did a good job too. Now the negatives. To kick off how mainly uneventful this movie was. Not much really happened I mean you had the stretch with her second husband the professor I liked that whole part but overall it seemed like they were filming pretty normal everyday activities and gives the viewer little reason to stick around. Another negative was how negative this movie was in general. The boy turned out to be some negative like hipster emo person who has a shitty view on the world and life in general. The kid is dull and does very little real acting. They try to show that he is like a hidden smart kid who doesn't talk but all I see is some uninteresting annoying negative person and I disliked that about the character progression. Especially when the father seemed to have influence on the son and the father was a really upbeat passionate person you would think that's what the kid would develop in to. The movie also failed to explain some parts like the whole husband that was the military guy. It seemed like everything was going great and then the kid and him got in one fight and w never saw the guy again like what happened with that. Overall the movie was a long boring journey of this kid who has a bunch of bad things happen to him and then just doesn't really say or do much throughout the film.
Snowden (2016)
Good interesting film
The people reviewing this film are the same people who r view poorly to every Oliver stone film ever. You probably will see their username on movies like JFK or Nixon or the doors or something saying he expanded the truth and over dramatized the story. This film literally says at the beginning that it is over dramatized. That's why this is a Hollywood movie and not a documentary. People say Snowden himself would be ashamed of this movie oh really that's why he met with Joseph Gordon's-Levitt in person. That's why on his Twitter he is promoting the film and even using it as a reference. Wherever you agree with what he did or not this movie is with watching it gives you a first hand perception of what was going on in his head. The whole point of him revealing this info was to let the propel know and decide if it was wrong he believed the people should be fully aware and if they don't like it use the power of the people (John Lennon) to stop it. The movie is well done without getting too technical or computer terminology and just giving you the information and the story. Yes there is some expanded truth and overdramatazation but it still is a good movie and I recommend seeing it.
War Dogs (2016)
Good movie but structure is very unoriginal
The basic structure of this movie is something we have seen before in movies like "goodfellas" and "wolf of Wall Street". It's basically the same the main character as a narrator. The movie starts off somewhere in the middle for a brief scene to show you what to come and then goes back to humble beginnings. And the structure goes on the same so if you have seen those movies then except the same kind of film. Despite that unoriginal I still enjoyed the film. The acting was solid Jonah hill delivers another solid performance adding to the list of his good performances. And young miles teller shows he can act with this and his previous movie "whiplash". I was afraid of the movie based on the trailers being just a silly action movie but I was wrong although it had some action it was mainly an interesting story excited well. If you are fans of goodfellas and wolf of Wall Street you will enjoy this because it is very similar with a new story to tell about shady young stoners attempting to screw the government in the arms industry. I do recommend this. Parents beware there is violence and drug use are the main causes of this being rated R
Love & Mercy (2014)
Great and Dramatic Biopic
Of course you see haters of this movie and the biopic genre in general. I mean come one look at all the famous music biopics The Doors, Ray, Walk the Line, Im not there, Sid and Nancy. They all have ratings below 8. People are way too picky about these things. This one was especially great in my mind because it was dramatic and had very good acting. Im not a huge fan of the beach boys in general i don't dislike them just not a big fan but I loved this movie. "its not linear what good art stands for" ~ Ray Manzareck from the doors. It bounces back and forth between 1960s and 1980s Brian Wilson which both actors killed the role. Very interesting story of a man basically slowly going insane. I recommend this for not only classic rock fans but movie fans this is an excellent biopic. You get to enter the world of one of musics most bright visionaries and see his peak and how he slowly enslaves himself in his own mind through drugs, his past, and his obsession with beating the Beatles.
10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
Interesting unique movie with a horrible ending
I enjoyed this movie because it was both entertaining and exciting. The movie was a unique take on a fallout apocalyptic movie. Usually its a classic lineup of a couple strangers somehow fending off aliens or zombies so this was a good take on it. John Goodman once again was great he played his role perfect just like i expected. The whole movie you are wondering whether or not he was a crazy kidnapping psychopath or he was right about the whole attack on the world. In the end he turns out to be both which is the part I don't like. I think when she comes out of the bomb shelter and sees the birds she should of took her mask off an just looked around to see the world was normal. I think adding the whole alien fight scene and how he was right just ruined the movie. Then it draws back to the scene when she figured out that Goodman had held that other girl here captive and probably killed her. Why would they add that part if it turns out there was an attack from aliens. If it turned out he was lying that would have made the movie and the ending way better. The ending was cheesy but the movie is still worth watching.
Friday Night Tykes (2014)
My rating is for the show itself entertainment value not for the what happens
This show is pretty disgusting showing the truth of Texas youth football. These coaches and even parents are batshit crazy and teach nothing about hard work and sportsmanship but about how to cheat bend rules hurt other players. Coaches not pushing their kids to their limits but commuting cruel and unusual punishment. Making kids run way more excessive conditioning then necessary in 99 degree weather. I play football and I played youth football what they do is ridiculous. Straight helmet to helmet contact. Coaches swear and tell their kids to hurt other player and cheat to get an advantage. They say there trying to make sure these kids aren't soft which kinda makes sense for football but they push it way beyond the limits. Despite all that the show is entertaining in showing the true craziness that is Texas football. And these 8 year olds are aweso athletes they hit hard, run fast, they look like high school players out there. Good football games and intense match ups. Overall entertaining to watch but also disgusting.
The Revenant (2015)
Great movie
This movie was awesome it had everything you could want from it. Multiple themes from the plot, great acting from Leo but really tom hardy stole the show, thrill, intense action and battle scenes, and a ton of gore sometimes too much to watch but it was awesome either way. Multiple themes showing on what man is willing to do to survive the I humane things that they may do. It has the base story of revenue after being left for dead. And the multiple "turf" despite a between more than one Native American tribe and Europeans and white Americans. These disputes lead to gory intense battles that had some very disturbing and almost scary scenes. The key to the action sequences in this movie was the camera work. The camera angles were unbelievable making you feel as if you were freezing in those terrible conditions fighting brutally Native American tribes coming at you. This movie was very good and I highly recommend you go see it with warning that is disgustingly gory at times beyond your imagination. I believe Leo could get his Oscar for this one.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Very satisfying movie
To the hater people who think they are "real" Star Wars fans hating on this film and the prequels you just don't appreciate what they are their for. Prequels are cool way of explaining events you heard about in the original trilogy but never understood. This movie is very stays dying exactly what I wanted it to be. A perfect blend of using today's technology to liven up some eye candy but also focusing on the plot. There were some pretty obvious similarities to episode 4 but enough different where I wasn't to angry about it. A key aspect they did in this film was they had plenty of surprises and you were always on your toes. This film also does the perfect amount of connections to the old film without going overboard. I really enjoyed this not one of the best Star Wars ever but very good and I was happy with it.
Whiplash (2014)
Shocked about how good this was
This was a great movie and it totally shocked me. I was like OK maybe it will be alright because everyone was saying how great it was and when I watched it I was shocked. The intensity and the drama was great. The acting was awesome in this movie J.K Simmons is great in everything he does from Oz to the State Farm commercials. The ending was awesome. I was excited and intrigued the entire movie it never became dull. I say this or the imitation game should of won best picture. How the hell did bird man beat this movie out that movie was mediocre at best this movie was great. I highly recommend it especially if you play jazz band yourself. This is a truly great movie and I was totally shocked how good it was.
The Doors (1991)
Good movie
I really enjoyed this movie. It was compelling and entertaining and exciting. I wouldn't say this movie was inaccurate like some people are saying I would say it left some pretty important parts out of Jims life. They focused on the wild side of Jim probably because it is the most entertaining and most unique. I would of liked to see more of his articulate side because he was a very smart guy. But overall it gives you a nice description of the doors and Jim and it kept me interested throughout the movie. You get to see the interesting band that the doors really were. I recommend not only to watch the movie but to listen to the great band the doors.
Jimi: All Is by My Side (2013)
Pretty weak movie
I was very excited to watch a good movie about Jimi Hendrix's life and this was not the movie I was looking for. This movie wasn't terrible but it was pretty weak. I saw the doors movie and was hoping this movie would be a lot like that one but it was not. It was uneventful and boring. It was short and only showed like one year of Jimi's life. They didn't fully capture the true Jimi Hendrix experience 😉. They showed him starting up but never really showed him when he was on top of the rock world. They didn't even get to Woodstock or most importantly his mysterious death. They also barely highlighted his drug use which was a huge part of his life and is necessary to include for Jimi Hendrix's life. They should have added way more detail and made it much more exciting. Overall the movie gives you a good take on his early career but lacks full detail and excitement. I am still waiting for a good Jimi Hendrix film.
The Maze Runner (2014)
Solid movie
This was a pretty solid movie overall. I wasn't really sure what it was about but it was definitely a different plot. It had some resemblance to the hunger games but overall was pretty different. The movie was entertaining and kept me in the whole time. It got confusing at times but that was intriguing part about it. There is a solid amount if action and you will not get bored watching this movie. If you were debating whether or not to watch this or not i do recommend it. As far as the level of appropriateness for kids its not bad a few swears hear and there but not bad. Nothing really that inappropriate. This is a good film and i recommend watching it not like a o my god movie but good.
That '70s Show (1998)
Very minor spoilers but great show
This show is great it is funny in a relaxing type of way. I would not say the funniest of all time but in my top 10. I feel that everyone was casted perfect. In this show I feel very connected with the whole cast. I feel like I'm part of the crew just hanging in the basement. If you don't know what the show is about basically it's just about the average teen in the 70s who watch TV, go out, smoke pot, and get into trouble. I love the basement I think it's cool that the crew is fine with hanging out all day. And of course there is the legendary group bonding known as "the circle". Basically the circle is they sit in a circle and smoke pot and laugh and tell funny stories. Most of the characters participate in the circle at least one point in the show but the main guys are Eric foreman, Stephen Hyde, fez, Michael kelso. But Donna and Jackie do participate sometimes to and Leo the dirty hippie played by tommy Chong. Eric foreman is probably my favorite character I love how he is pretty much a geek with his love for GI Joe, Star Wars, batman, comic books, and action figures. He doesn't really care and always makes things funny. It's also awesome when his dad red foreman yells at him. Michael Kelso (Ashton kutcher) is my second favorite. Kelso known as the idiot of the group always saying stupid things and falling off the water tower provides one of the best characters on the show. Hyde is awesome too him being the biggest stoner of the group he is also constantly showing his paranoia of the government taking over and his hate for cops. Leo a rare character who appears sometimes showed up randomly as Hyde's boss. Leo is constantly forgetting everything and seems to be out of it 100% of the time. The show was great up until the last season season 8. Although it was still funny it was tough because both Eric and kelso were gone so that took away about half the jokes. What I did like is Leo became a bigger part and they also tried to add randy played by josh Meyers who in my opinion was not funny at all he really only said like a funny thing every 3 or 4 episodes even though they tried to every episode. The show really wasn't awesome season 8 but I still recommend it
Oz (1997)
Awesome Show
This is my second favorite show (behind Breaking Bad) of all time. This show has the perfect balance between action, drama, and a great plot. Watching this show will give you the hard truth about America's prisons. It does not sugar coat prison it gives you full detail starting with the gangs, murders, violence, rape, and drugs. The show is shown with many different gangs including the Aryans, Homeboys, Muslims, Latinos, wise guys, bikers, and the others. It shows how drugs and race promote most of the violence in prison. There is a lot of killing and a lot of blood. It depicts how prisoners sometimes can stand together against the guards. It shows how racial tension can escalate violence into riots both small and big. If you want a show about the full story of prison this is the one. It shows some prisoners who are street tough, some who are plain big and strong, some who are crazy, some who are smart, some who just are not prepared for prison life and have to adapt. I do give a warning that this is very graphic and there are a lot of homosexual sex and rape scenes but that just gives you a better understanding of what real prison is like. The main character throughout the series is wheelchair inmate Augustus Hill who is mainly the narrator but a regular smaller character too. He is in for life with parole in 20 years for killing a cop. Other big characters include Tobias Beecher who is in for 15 years with parole in 4 for DUI and vehicular manslaughter. Ryan O'Reilly who is for life with parole in 12 years for DUI, Possession, 2 counts of vehicular manslaughter. Vern schillinger (Aryan Brotherhood Leader) in for 8 years parole in 5 for aggravated assault. Kareem Said (leader of Muslims) in for 15 years parole in 4 for blowing up a warehouse. Simeon Adebesi (leader of the homeboys) in for murder life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. These are just a few of the many characters in oz. Some of your favorites may die but new ones will always come. This a show I highly recommend.
Django Unchained (2012)
One of tarentinos best
What a movie I loved it so much. There is so much fantastic action in it, you will never be bored. There is a lot of blood and gore but that is just tarentinos style. Jamie Fox is so good in this movie as he is in every movie he plays in. What a plot too no just action but great plot and fantastic acting. Some cool lines throughout the movie and I also like Samuel L. Jackson in it to. But I can't forget Leonardo decapro he should of got the Oscar for this and a few other movies he was in too. Once again he was magnificent and definitely made the movie better. But so did jamie fox. This movie overall is one of the best of the 2000s and deserves the high rating it got. A great ending to the movie to but I won't give anything away. when I read the description I thought it would be to much of a romance movie but not at all just good acting, a good plot, and lots of action. also there was a bit of hidden gem with a little comedy in the movie. There was a few laughs throughout the movie. This movie reminded me a lot of Pulp Fiction. I highly recommend this film.
Homeland (2011)
Great Show
This is one great show. It keeps you interested throughout the series and is awesome to learn about the war and how the CIA operates. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. I feel like it always has a big cliffhanger at the end of each episode. Nick Brodie is a character where sometimes you love him and then at times you don't know what you think of him. Although it doesn't have a ton of action it still has a ton of suspense. I can't wait for the next season. The girl who plays Kerry is a very good actor and really keeps the show going. It doesn't need that much action to be great because it has a very good plot that you cant get to too much detail or it will give it away. I love this show and it kept me hooked all the way through. I felt like I never got bored Through this show. I do not think it is better then Breaking Bad but it is one of my favorite shows of all time. I highly recommend catching up on this to see the next season which is coming soon.
R.I.P.D. (2013)
Better than I thought
When I went to see this I did not think it was that good and I thought it was a waste of time. Then I got into the movie and actually thought it was funny. It had a few laughs throughout and was worth watching. It isn't the best movie out right now but is kind of funny and wouldn't be that much of a waste of time. Ryan Reynolds was OK but jeff bridges was much funnier. It is good to watch once and maybe flip on if it is on TV some day but I wouldn't rush to go see it. Although it says PG 13 this can be viewed like 10 and up because it is very inappropriate just a lot of action. Key Things I liked It was a little bit funny It had some decent action Jeff bridges was OK in it
2 Guns (2013)
Good Action and comedy
This is a pretty good movie and is definitely worth watching and probably gonna watch it again when it again when it is free. If you love action there is a very good amount in this movie. The movie also has comedy throughout which definitely makes you laugh. Has a very good plot especially compared to a lot of movies this generation. It also has a good conspiracy plot so if you like that then this is also good movie for you. The movie has two likable actors in Denzel and Mark Whalberg. For Mark Wahlberg this is a big improvement from Broken Ciy which I was not a fan of. Wahlberg is also very funny in the movie. Denzel was good too and he showed comedy. In the end if you like action or like comedy or Wahlberg and Denzel I think you will like this movie
Grown Ups 2 (2013)
so so got some laughs
This is an OK comedy at the very best. It definitely had me laughing at some points at other points it was just plain stupid. There isn't much to say about this movie but that it is much more funnier than the first one mainly because it was more inappropriate and for teenage to adult audiences. Overall this was not that good of a movie and i would not waste 9 or 10 dollars seeing it n theater. If you want to watch I would wait until its either on TV, netflix, etc. I wouldn't really waste your time with this because there are better movies you could be seeing. But if there really isn't anything else on or in theater than I would give it a shot. Plus this movie is not for kids this should be from like 12 and up or they just won't get some of the jokes.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Greatest Show on TV
Breaking bad has every single thing you could want on a show. It has a great plot, unbelievable acting, a ton of action, and some of the biggest bad-asses in TV history. It all starts with the great plot. It is a cool plot where it is so fun to find out whats going to happen next. Probably one of the most addicting shows ever. You can never get bored of breaking bad. You are going to never want to leave the TV. They take an innocent protagonist and turn him into the antagonist but at the same time you love him. It is cool to learn how awesome science can be. The acting is out of this world. I never in a million years thought the goofy Bryan Cranston could take on a serious role and play it better than i could imagine. I had only seen him on Malcolm in the Middle so when I saw him in the description I thought the show would be bad but i could have never been more wrong. Cranston acts out of this world. Aaron Paul shocked me so much. He did an even better job than Cranston. He puts so much emotion into the show. He plays his part perfectly, I could not imagine anyone else playing Jesse Pinkman. The action is out of this world. There are constantly explosions, gun shots, deaths, and much more throughout the show. It really adds great suspense to the show. I think Walter "heisenberg" White (Bryan Cranston) has taken on the role of the biggest bad-ass on TV. He has so many bad ass scenes. Ranging from cool lines to big explosions. Heisenberg has the intelligence of Michael Schofield (Wentworth Miller, Prison Break), he has the craziness of Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland, 24), and the pure awesomeness of Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson, Taken). If you have not seen this show than this is the show you have to watch right now. It is the best show on Television.
Platoon (1986)
Deserves way more than an 8.2
This movie was downright unbelievable. Very well done and kept you interested throughout the entire movie. It shows the horribleness that went on in Vietnam and how it was truly a life changing experience. The veterans over there went through very little sleep and had to go through fear almost every parts of the day. I personally did not go in the Vietnam war but from what I heard this is the most realistic movie of what happened in Vietnam. The ambush scene where Taylor is just waiting in fear with his hear pounding that the Vietnam soldiers would not see him. I also love the final battle scene it had lots of action and was very intriguing. When Elias was running from the soldiers was a very emotional scene. Charlie Sheen was magnificent along with Forrest Whittaker, Willam Defoe, Tom Berenger, and others. Taylor had to witness murder, rape, and injustice by his fellow soldiers or as he put it "he couldn't tell what was right or wrong anymore. It was truly grew and I highly recommend it.
Good Will Hunting (1997)
Wicked good
This is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. I loved it so much, I watch it over and over again. This is an excellent film about a man who is an absolute math genius who could do anything as a job, but refuses to because of the demons he has in his mind. I love how good all of the characters are like Will(Matt Damon), Chuck(Ben Affleck), Sean(Robin Williams), and skylah(MInnie Driver). Matt and Ben's best film of their career. It goes through the horrible abuse Will Hunting faced as a child and how he overcomes it. We also find out late in the film that Sean the therapist also dealt with some abuse as a child. My favorite line is when will starts out by saying "he used to just set a belt, a stick, and a wrench on the table and say choose" then Sean says "I would have to go with the belt" then will says "no I used to go with the wrench" Sean says"why" will says "cause f*** him thats why". Will was talking about his foster father because he used to be an orphan.Greatly scripted film and an unbelievable story.
Batman (1989)
it was so so
This movie was a very boring movie. I almost fell asleep watching it. I kept telling myself the action and exciting part will come but it never really did. Heath Ledger did a way better job of playing the joker his performance was more alive and kept me interested. Jack Nicholson did an OK job but was not nearly as exciting as Heath's was. Michael Keaton is a pretty good actor but they could of gotten a better actor for the job. When I picture batman I see a big strong tough looking guy that looks like he can fight. Keaton just did not fill that description. I did give it a 5 because I do realize it was mad much before all the technology was to make the dark knight. It is the second best Batman movie if you count the dark knight trilogy as a whole. In conclusion if nothing else is on you can watch it but if you want a good batman movie try all three of the dark night trilogy.
Sleepers (1996)
Unbelievable Movie
What a movie, I don't even know where to start. This movie is so touching and intriguing I could watch it every day and it would never get old. The movie has a great display of what it was like to live in hell's kitchen as a child. Then it shows horrible abuse and torture. The sad truth is that stuff happens all over the country in reform schools and not in them. It was a very tough place for the boys to live. Even thought they did commit a serious crime that punishment was not deserved at all. Then the great climax of the bar scene, which is one of my favorite scenes in all of movies. Then a courtroom drama that will want to make you cry making one of the boy's torturers admit the horrible truth. Then the touching scene which I won't go in to too much detail but the testimony of father Robert Carrillo. The whole movie is unbelievable and everybody played there roles great. Kevin Bacon was very convincing of the pedophile reform school guard. Robert De Niro played a big role and played it well. Although Brad Pitt, Dustin Hoffman, and Jason Patric didn't play in the movie long it was long enough to show the great acting they all can perform. This movie was an excellent drama and more than worth giving it a try. With this all star cast, great plot, and great acting I am shocked this does not get more credit. Sleepers is truly a great film deserving a 10.
