Willow (2022)
Puzzled by the negative reviews
I really don't understand why this show has so many negative reviews.
I'm 48 and watched the original movie in the cinema. This series has the same theme and easy jokes as in the movie, but with better CGI and character development (advantage of the TV series format). In summary, I have the same feelings of fun and fantasy story as when I watched the original movie.
Yes, it has some "teen" themes and "modern" tropes that would have been weird in 1980s, but I think it's a perfect continuation of the film.
I hope Disney will renew the show for a second season and the critics will be more patient with the series.
Planet of the Humans (2019)
Poorly researched, disingenuous
Lots of outdated information (videos from 90s and early 2000s) that the author did not bother to check again with facts from 2019.
Easy to debunk most of the views from the film, especially about solar and wind power. Please, do yourself a favour and, if you watch this "piece of fiction", do some research also before blindly believing what they tell you in this film.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
A solid adventure movie
I'm a big Star Wars fan (watched Empire Strikes Back in the cinema when I was 8 years old) and I loved this movie. With Empire Strikes Back and Rogue One, my favorite in the series.
As for the movie itself, my opinion is that it's a solid adventure movie, in the style of the great Indiana Jones movies, with lots of fun and intense action, witty dialogues, great humor and solid acting from all actors.
Yes, Han must meet a certain Wookie, obtain a certain spaceship and meet a certain curly hair character to maintain coherence with past movies, but the "necessary" scenes, even if expected are still brilliantly developed. On top of these scenes, there are several surprising scenes that run the gamut of the best of what the Star Wars universe offers: chases, spacecraft battles, shootouts, aliens galore and lots lots of anti laws of physics split-second solutions.
Still, my favorite take from this movie is that they finally managed to shoot an amazing movie that is far from the epic good-evil battles of previous Star Wars movies, and this is completely in tune with the Han Solo character (and, btw, I think Alden Ehrenreich is a perfect match for the role).
In summary, if you think the movie is "unnecessary" and not needed, it will indeed disappoint you and I would advice you not to watch it, but if you go to watch it with a no-expectations open mind, I think you'll be greatly pleased and much entertained.
(and my excuses for any English mistakes; my mother tongue is Spanish)
The Lone Ranger (2013)
Very nice adventure film, not a western
I consider The Lone Ranger a great entertaining film. The movie is a whooping 2,5 hours long and I watched it from 23:30 to 2am, but nevertheless it kept me awake the whole time.
I loved the visuals and landscapes (I've always loved westerns, specially because of the sceneries and this movie's landscapes are truly amazing!).
The action scenes are very entertaining and have a well built pace. Towards the end there's an amazing 15-20 minutes long action scene, but as it consists of 3 different sections it really flows wonderfully and is very interesting.
The acting I found powerful and quite good. I specially liked Johnny Depp. Yes, he is playing another weird-type character, but I found his performance quite different from that in Pirates of the Caribbean. I also loved the moments in the film where he appears, as they are sometimes slow but sensitive and a good pace change in the movie.
Finally, the movie is not a western, but more an adventure type film (à la Pirates of the Caribbean or Indiana Jones) so avoid it if you don't like those kind of movies. Well, maybe there's a scene towards the beginning of the movie that has more of a western feel to it.
I would give it a 9 out of 10 if you like adventure movies. If you are waiting for a rugged western and tough western themes you will be disappointed so don't watch it.
