Quantum Leap (2022–2024)
8/10
Not the original but finds it's stride after 2~3 episodes.
18 October 2022
This is not the original, nor should it really be expected to be. Reboots and remakes never really hold up to the classics they're based on. But this show is really good, with the exception of the first 2 episodes which really tries to overexplain the backstory of the original series and setting up the story while completely neglecting the characters. Maybe because I'm a big fan of the original I feel it's not needed but considering the original also didn't try to explain it's backstory I don't think it was really required. And the other big issue, which is partially solved by episode 5, is the character being rather flat. All except Ian, which really serves no function beyond being stereotypically gay (offensively so) to the point of cringe in every scene he's in and only spouts some techno-babble which could be done by the other tech wiz in the show (and she is relevant to the story). Killing of Ian would allow the show to develop it's other characters more and cut down on the dead air he creates.

The only other issue is rather minor, which is that the tech doesn't remotely look futuristic while the original it looked basically alien, especially considering the original tech does make an appearance in the show it's quite silly that tech from (in universe) ~20 years ago looks more futuristic than revisions that came after.

As of writing it's 5 episodes in and it's getting much better after the first 2/3 episodes. I hope it continues that way and they kill of Ian quickly.

The Flash: Girls Night Out (2017)
Season 4, Episode 5

Keep Supergirl writers with Supergirl
8 November 2017
First the male side of the story, it's a decent story and the only reason I'm not giving it 1 star. It's shows the men in the show as regular men without it either being a overly dramatic or emotional moment or a high tension moment. The whole finding out that Joe's daughter in law was a stripper for "feminist research" is also fine and later she finds out she didn't really do that for that reason. People that do things simply to prove there own political persuasion to themselves exist and generally are that stupid. Not to mention there are some genuinely funny moments in those scenes. If that was the whole episode I'd give it 6 stars, not great, out of character for most characters but fine.

Than we get to the meat and potatoes of this episode. Every line seems to be extremely forced in an attempt to write a "girl power" episode. At least half of what is written in previous episodes is suddenly all forgotten just to push this story (Caitlin for example forgets she has a good friend in Cisco). Not to mention they let someone who had chained up, tortured (and possibly starve) a person for weeks to produce enough tears to supply at least a rave go away even though she could have easily be locked up because "#Feminism"?

All in all, just a typical Supergirl episode cosplaying as a flash episode. Just needed more super Lesbian Alex with her side kick Supergirl to be a true Supergirl episode.

Punk rock Shakespeare
11 July 2017
I like to state, as someone growing up within my local punk scene that emulated the early punk scene (late 70's/early 80's) and has a history of art, I love this series. It tries to show the story the early days of Shakespeare as if Elizabethan England is going through a punk phase. And does so amazingly without it being overbearing, and is something you can see back in the clothing, music choice, hair styles, posters, etc. this all to the point that, seemingly, a lot of other reviewers actually haven't noticed it aside from the music.

Take the clothing for example: most major characters wear something like leather jackets that are studded with patterns, this all without it being terribly out of place within Elizabethan England. Or a more obvious example are the posters, they look nothing little to nothing Elizabethan era posters however do look like cheap punk concert posters with some Elizabethan flair thrown in for good measure. And lets be frank in what late 1500's world would they have used, what looks like, cut out photocopied letters for a wanted poster?

But I could continue to list all the small details and how amazing it works within the setting.

The story as of yet has also been top notch in my opinion, not to shallow but not so deep that it requires art history major to understand. It also doesn't, if you notice the punk elements obviously so, to be historically accurate.

All in all, great show.

The finest propaganda you'll ever see
21 March 2017
To be very blunt it's propaganda, and it's blatantly obvious at it. Not to mention it does the character of supergirl not any good.

I'd like to hammer home it's tries to very bluntly put in parallels to real world political issues and than continues the take the most brain dead stance on it while portraying it as the only right option that doesn't have any drawbacks. The second to last episode is an amazing example of that, where they tried to portrait refugees as always virtuous people/aliens that can't do wrong. Not to mention the blatant racism and sexism of this show. (all men and white people that don't share supergirls world view are quickly pushed aside as evil and just asking for a beating)

And the second thing this show does wrong is just supergirl it self. As a big reader of Superman I'm decently familiar with the character and aside from just massive changes in character seemingly for no reason but my first point or cheap romance story, like Jimmy Olsen being changed from a small white clumsy ginger nerd to a buff black guy that can't do wrong. The writers quite clearly don't understand what makes superman superman and supergirl supergirl. Superman at it's essence about trying doing good without the limitation of power and the problems that come with it. While supergirl is often about something similar but with heavy tones of finding one's place in the world as a stranger. Meanwhile supergirl has non of that, she fits in everywhere nor has to make hard decisions about doing good. If the writers wanted to push the refugee agenda they could have by writing a decent supergirl story about not fitting in into a alien world. But than they couldn't have pushed their agenda obvious enough it seems.

Primeval: New World (2012–2013)
10/10
Lots of premature reviews, but a great show.
20 February 2013
I've read all reviews of this series here and it baffles me how most are premature often after 3 to 6 episodes. Which, as I just finished watching the first season. And some even expect a carbon copy from spin-off. Also some people questioned why they didn't see any effect from the whole anomaly apocalypse from the original series, but its been suggested in the new world that the shows don't run in the same time or that it might be an alternative reality (both were established realities in the original series).

The first half of the season was clearly made to get people in to the universe who weren't before. They are great episodes for dino-hunting but not really great if you watched the original series because you then already know the rules of the universe. But it not like they are not fun to watch, just no great for a set-up for a story arc.

The second half of the season was far more based around a story arc, while still keeping the feel it set out in the first part of the season, which is great. It quickly became more a complex story arc and started to show how an ARC-like company is being set up in Canada, something you didn't see in the original series as there it came from nowhere.
