Puzzlehead (2005)
This would have made excellent material for MST3K
This movie sounds promising but just plain doesn't deliver.
A potentially interesting plot is completely ruined by: Terrible acting.
Poorly mixed sound. I had to crank my receiver way up to hear what these poor excuses for actors and actresses were blathering on about.
Beyond low budget filming and effects, what effects?
A kid with a camcorder could have done better.
This would have made for an excellent episode of MST3K.
Hopefully I can save someone from wasting an hour and a half of their lives by steering them clear of this failure.
We Own the Night (2007)
Mostly Pointless
This movie was simply a 117 minute reminder of how pointless the war on drugs actually is. If drugs were legal as they were when this country was founded and the Constitution was written, there would be little or no profit in selling drugs and therefore absolutely no reason for the violence surrounding the drug scene. This movie shows the stupidity of trying to police something that can never be stopped thereby creating a black market of huge profits for products that could be cheap, easily produced and heavily taxed. The other benefit of legalization would be removing the "coolness" factor for kids. Anything kids aren't supposed to be doing is immediately labeled as "cool" and "rebellious" so they see drugs as something cool. It's time people start questioning the motives behind this failed "war" on drugs. The Russians in the movie said, "the police are a joke", but the real joke is the fact that they're trying to fight a war that can never be won, both sides will just continue to suffer casualties and reap huge profits, stupid.....
Winners Take All (1987)
Motocross 101
This is just over an hour and a half of non-stop laughs for anyone who actually rides motocross or is into it. I'm pretty sure they weren't intending to make a comedy when this movie was originally written. They were trying to make a cool motocross movie, yet 20 years later it has become a solid comedy for any MX fan. The only time the riding is done well is when they're using actual race footage from the original 80's pro races. The rest of the riding scenes, the acting, the plot, not to mention the cheesy 80's clothing, MX gear, haircuts, language, etc.. are just plain comical. My 15 year old daughter and I (we both ride) laughed hysterically through the entire movie. Her mother and 12 year old sister (they don't ride) spent the entire time wondering why they were wasting their time on such a dumb movie and trying to figure out what we found so damned amusing. The reason I gave this movie a 7 is because it was highly entertaining in a way it was never meant to be. If I didn't ride MX it would rate about a 2. If you ride, you must see this movie, if not, you just won't understand...
Lola rennt (1998)
Lola Gump
Run!! Lola, run!!! You wind up spending most of the hour and a half of this film watching a semi-attractive girl run like Forrest Gump except through a European city instead of all over the USA. This movie could have been under an hour and much less tedious if they had cut the pointless running scenes down a minute or two each. Otherwise it's a fairly original movie idea and would have kept my interest. If you watch this movie based on it's rating, you are going to be let down because you will be expecting something much more meaningful and memorable but you certainly won't find it here. The only reason I'm writing this review is because this movie is highly over rated. It's not a bad movie, but it's certainly not a great movie and definitely doesn't belong in the IMDb top 250.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)
A disgrace to an excellent author
I am a big fan of the books and have read the hitchhiker's trilogy more than once. I went into this movie hoping that at least some of the wit and humor that runs rampant through the books would be brought into the movie, no such luck. I was looking forward to watching this movie with my family in hopes that they would get at least a glimpse into the world of Douglas Adams and hopefully spark some interest in them into reading books with his style of writing , no such luck again. What I got was a feeble attempt to jam five books into an hour and a half long movie and they didn't even bother to try to have it make any sense at all to people who haven't read the book. What were they thinking? There is enough material there to make an hour and a half long movie for each of the five books if someone was to take the time and the effort to do it right. This movie is a disgrace to the writing talent of the late Douglas Adams. I was completely let down and my family was bored with it. Don't waste your time.
Ed Wood (1994)
127 wasted minutes
I actually wasted just over two hours of my time watching this movie and I want my two hours back. I think the people that rated this movie any higher than a 5 should all send me $1 to compensate for the time I wasted sitting through this tedious garbage. The only reason I sat through the entire film was because Johnny Depp is usually pretty good. This movie definitely proves that even a good actor can't save a bad movie. I don't know how this movie made it into the top 250, 20,000 people rated this movie a 6 or higher, I want some of what they were on when they watched this waste of perfectly good actors and film. I only hope I can save someone else the pain of having to sit through two hours of complete crap. Please don't waste your time! You've been warned!
Before Sunset (2004)
Better than the first
But not by very much. This is one of those movies that unless you can directly relate to the main characters you'll find it quite slow and tedious. There are a few moments of occasional humor or little bits of relationship wisdom thrown in here or there but that's about it. The best part in the entire movie is the end but not just because it's over, the last few minutes of the movie were actually fairly good. Too bad the rest of it was just a bunch of filler. I rated the first movie "before sunrise" a two because it was so painfully predictable and slow. This one was pretty much more of the same but with a better ending..
