Like Crazy (2011)

Realistic and poignant

I can't believe I've watched the same film as some of the other reviewers who have been really negative about it. I loved it. I thought the acting was very realistic and I thought the two main leads had great chemistry. It was a sad film but it made perfect sense to me. Felicity Jones is great - I've seen a few of her films now and she has been excellent in every one. This is probably the one in which she gives her best performance - it did feel at times like the viewer was intruding on their lives together (and apart) and I think that came from the way in which it was filmed. Would definitely recommend it to others.

Exile (2011)

Excellent

Given the well known actors involved in this drama, I had high hopes and they were not disappointed. All of the main characters were played fantastically well and it felt real. My mum has Alzheimers and I did wonder whether I would be "up" to watching something that was obviously so close to home, but the illness as a main strand of the story was treated with sensitivity and humour. Jim Broadbent was amazing in the role as the ill dad, and John Simm and Olivia Colman were both fantastic in their roles as wayward son and put upon daughter. The mystery surrounding the sudden departure of Tom to London 18 years earlier developed well as the storyline moved on. Similarly to another reviewer I did think that the ending was somewhat hurried, but all of the loose ends were well and truly tied, and it didn't detract from the overall quality. I'll be making a DVD purchase when it's released.

Identity (2010)

Not the greatest.

Warning: Spoilers
No middle ground on this one - it's either incredibly dull (lots of office scenes in the style of spooks and 24 with the computer experts all staring excitedly at PC screens) or incredibly interesting but completely and frustratingly unbelievable. It would also appear that if Keeley Hawes is involved, the plot line will generally involve her wafting about an office, looking ultra-sophisticated, clutching a file/paper/clipboard and not generally doing a great deal, other than eyeing up a single colleague for future romantic storyline to keep us interested.

I've managed to watch two episodes before giving up as I couldn't see where the plot could go(and yes I know there's the other storyline about John and his previous life with the dodgy gangsters that's going to come back to bite him, but given that John's character's not developed enough for me to care about his future, what's the point?) Surely no one would continue to employ someone that is THAT unreliable?? In the real world he'd have lost his job at the end of episode one having stabbed father of villain in the leg (in order to obtain vital information from evil villainous daughter - yes honestly)

Am really disappointed. Particularly given the cast list. Bring back Luther.
