Bridesmaids (2011)
A great movie worth watching
The movie gives us a wonderfully presented glimpse into female friendships, their fickleness, their fragility, their volatile nature, their foundations, and their strength. All the actors and actresses, even the most minor ones, play their roles in such a way that they make it possible for the viewer to forget they aren't real people in the real world.
The comical aspects aren't forced, they emerge and arise naturally from the plot's development. The scenes with sexual banter and/or bodily functions aren't the basis of the movie's humoristic side; they're merely a backdrop adding an "Oh my!" to the overall atmosphere.
The Other Man (2008)
Good acting but not much happening
I saw the movie at the advice of friends who told me, "It's somewhat strange but good, you ought to see it."
Now that I've seen the movie, I can say that it really is strange and that it has one good aspect -- the acting of Liam Neeson and Antonio Banderas. The rest of the cast isn't particularly noteworthy. The story is pretty ordinary--a cheating wife and a clueless husband; she dies, and he decides to seek out his late wife's lover and exact some kind of revenge. Finding the lover was anticlimactic as we didn't see a display of any significant feelings and nothing special followed. There didn't seem to be any special revenge, either. The whole story seemed somewhat contrived and pointless, as in awkward and going nowhere.
Perfect Strangers (2003)
Whimsical and a touch wistful
I disagree with the previous comment. The movie possesses enough drama and suspense to keep the viewers interested until the very end. This is the story of two people who could have been happy together under different circumstances. It's also the story of what happens when people make the wrong choice. The movie asks the question what makes a certain choice the wrong one and points out that every choice could be both right and wrong. The music is well chosen, and the combination between Puccini's opera "Madam Butterfly" and a number of contemporary ballads enhances the atmosphere. The ending is unexpected and leaves the viewer surprised and delighted at the same time.
Out for a Kill (2003)
Pleasant Surprise
I watched the film last night. It was a pleasant surprise to see scenes filmed in Sofia, Bulgaria and actually recognize several landmarks from the city. A further pleasant surprise was finding out that more that 50% of the production crew is Bulgarian.
The movie itself belongs to what I call jump-up-and-shoot category, and as such, features a plot that's more difficult to follow as a whole than if taken as a summary of individual scenes. Steven Seagal is his usual self, excellent as a martial arts expert and good as an actor. The rest of the cast does a credible job as well.
The stunts were very well performed. Again, a pleasant surprise--a talented Bulgarian stuntman for the Sofia sequences.
