Sharknado 5: Global Swarming (2017)
LOVED Sharknado 5
****Might be spoilers. I don't know what I'm going to write.****
As usual, Sharknado delivered. The homages to movies of the past, the sly references and the celebrity cameos are what keeps me coming back. Yes, the acting is over the top and, yes, the scripts are, at times, cringe-inducing. But it's funny and entertaining. Of course, the "film snobs" won't think so, but screw them!
Now, that said, this Sharknado disappointed me in spots. First off, when Chris Kattan has his leg bitten off by a shark at Parliament, why oh why did he not say "It's only a flesh wound."? Would have been the perfect homage to Monty Python. Missed opportunity there. Second, why was Tiffany Pollard (aka New York from Flavor of Love) in this movie? She's no longer relevant. She had no business being in the cast. Get that gold-digging nasty whore out of my movie! Third, the ending of the movie was not good. Without getting into any specifics, Dolph Lundgren??? SMH. Just no. Loved the first 1:50 of the film. The last 10 minutes needed to be better. And why have time travel as part of the film if you're not going to have Christopher Lloyd come in to help save the day?
Despite all of that, I'm eagerly anticipating Sharknado 6. When will Ian Ziering get his much-deserved Emmy Award?
Vinyl (2012)
Vinyl is an outstanding film
Vinyl is just a fun movie. The movie is fantastic and you can tell it was a labor of love to get this film made. No, it's not going to win an Academy Award (well, maybe for the soundtrack), but what's wrong with 90 minutes of good entertainment and a story that will have you leaving the theater with a smile on your face? I was fortunate enough to attend the American premiere in New York City. Back then, distribution was seen as a major issue. It's good to see the film is getting on some screens in the UK. I'd certainly like to go see it again and hope it can get on some screens here in the States. I was lucky enough to talk to director Sara Sugarman and -- unlike what the twit at the bottom of the screen said -- found her to be utterly charming. You could see the dedication and sacrifice she put in to get this film made.
Go see this movie!
