Vivir sin permiso (2018)
Superbly written gritty drama
Although labouring in some of the sub-plots at times and indulged in you face gay scenes that suggested an agenda was being pushed this series is otherwise gripping and addictive if viewed on Netflix. The delicate subject of Alzheimer disease is handled sensitively and lent itself to a very emotional, heart tugging conclusion.
Unorthodox (2020)
Glimpse of a closed culture
I've only ever observed the Jewish orthodox faith by its visible appearance in the form of its people on the streets. This series takes us behind the appearance and provides a fascinating and respectable glimpse of an extraordinary culture. However, the plot in which this observation takes place is fairly predictable. It left me wishing the writers had been more imaginative about liberty instead of the rather narrow version represented in other productions covering the same theme. Liberty is not restricted to bed hopping, change of clothes and walking off in defiance from the former as if the new life is going to be better. Of course there is also the obligatory insertion of gay/lesbian relationships.
Greenleaf (2016)
Standard fayre
Fairly predictable plots, script re-enforcing liberal default positions, and cheesy music. Much of the dialogue involving lead character Grace spoken at frustratingly low, whispered level making it hard for me to hear. Other than these remarks the seriesis good entertainment
Heartland (2007)
Fairly predictable plot outcomes and characterisations
Although pleasant enough evening viewing the characterisations are tiresomely PC e.g. male inadequate/female adequate. Also, it'd be great to go through life as a parent where all that's required to deal with obnoxiously behaved children like those at Heartland are negotiations and repeated second chances.
