Date Night (2010)
Enjoyable
This was definitely enjoyable, and Tina Fey and Steve Carrell are definitely two of my favorites, but does anyone else have trouble separating the actors from the characters that you perhaps know them best by? I mean, yeah, I am a Tina Fey and Steve Carrell fan, but maybe I'm more of a "Liz Lemon" and "Michael Scott" fan.
Anyways, a good movie, definitely some funny parts, worth watching, and I recommend it. I had at least one or two "almost-spit-the-food-or-drink-that-was-in-my-mouth-out" because a line or scene was so funny, and I'd get caught a little off guard. The movie even makes you think a little bit (if you're not married) about some things to avoid and work towards to have a fun marriage.
Contagion (2011)
Check it out
This was a good movie. I had been meaning to watch it for months, never got around to it, saw Steven Soderbergh's more recent movie that is in theaters currently (Side Effects), finally got a hold of the movie, watched it, and was pleased. What an all-star cast, though, disappointingly, a couple of them aren't featured for very long. The movie actually got me interested in how things like this work and made me want to learn more about sicknesses, diseases, viruses, etc. It also sort of reminded me of the first season (or was it the second?) of The Walking Dead as both featured the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. Lawrence Fishburne did a great job, as did Marion Cotillard. I would have liked to have seen Matt Damon's character more in-control and bad-a$$ like the old days as Jason Bourne, but I suppose that was not his character this time around. I'd recommend you check it out, if you can stand a good bit of talking mixed in with the suspense.
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
Funny
I am finally getting around to watching some of the old Will Ferrell movies that I missed in my high school and college years, and for movie #1 for me in this series, I was not disappointed. Ricky Bobby and all of his cohorts were very funny, especially his youngest red-headed boy. I wonder if the movie could as funny if it were a little less crude? I don't know, just a thought, and maybe the crudeness actually helps sales and likability of the movie; it's just an idea/thought.
It is hard to explain, but how they captured and capitalized on the satire of the south (and this coming from someone born and raised in the south) was just hilarious; each of the characters, their attitudes, their accents, everything. Definitely a funny, brain-dead movie.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013)
Worth the Watch
I thought that it was a good movie--pretty funny and kind of quirky actually. If you can stand some grotesque violence, ugly witches, and relatively foul-mouthed Hansel and Gretel, then I think that it was worth the watch. Not going to win any academy awards, I don't think, but worth the watch.
There were some great twists (though not too unpredictable) that added to the plot, and I appreciated the wrestling that Hansel had to go through to accept his past and his heritage. Definitely a couple of cute actresses as well. In my opinion, this would have been better as a PG-13 movie with some of the over-the-top violence, the one brief and unnecessary nudity scene, and the slightly excessive though ironically clever f-bombs from Gretel removed.
