Das Boot (1981)
My favorite movie bar none
Not much more to say, really. One of very few movies I can watch again and again and still find small pieces of the sort that I might have missed previously.
Pedersens master piece where almost every single actor feels they were made for the role.
I haven't seen the mini series but the director's cut improved on the shorter original version.
And then there's the ending... Perfection!
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Way better than expected
I was planning to see this movie with my 13 year old son but changes of plan meant I happened to see it on a long distance flight instead. Didn't really expect much but an intriguing story, good writing and excellent acting had me pinned for two hours.
Following Alita from being a girl who knows nothing about herself and the world to a full fledged warrior was interesting and having Christoph Waltz joining me on that journey was, as always, a pleasure.
You probably need to be at least a tiny bit interested in sci-fi to enjoy this but if you are, then you're in for a treat.
Le chant du loup (2019)
A big disappointment
I really wanted Le Chant du Loup to be good but in the end it's let down by sub par screen writing - some events that are so implausible that it borders the laughable.
The main character's involvement in the events pictured feels far fetched and even the title has little bearing on the actual story.
Someone, unsurprisingly, referenced Das Boot in his/her review but unfortunately Le Chant du Loup is not worthy to be mentioned in the same sentence as the German classic. Avoid, would be my recommendation.
