The Facility (2012)
Don't miss this gem
I stumbled upon this film by pure fluke. I had never seen any marketing material nor heard anything via word of mouth...I'm glad I found it though and I will not soon forget it.
The move is about a bunch of regular people who sign up to be guinea pigs in a clinical trial for some kind of pharmaceutical. They must stay in a facility during the trial and the facility is like a tiny hospital or clinic in the middle of absolutely nowhere....and this is where the film shines. The seclusion, the claustrophobia....a great atmosphere is set right from the beginning, reminiscent of classics such as The Thing and Alien.
The acting here is also top notch. Other reviews seem to pick on the story but I felt as though it was the lack of information that made this movie great, again reminiscent of classics that leave more to the imagination...This movie does not spoon feed you with details, and for that I felt like I was there apart of the madness.
No One Lives (2012)
Total Garbage
It is EXTREMELY rare that I rate a movie 1/10 but I could not think of a single reason that would justify scoring this "film" any higher. It really has no redeeming qualities at all. Everything is bad here; been there done that plot, atrocious acting, amateur writing, unlikeable characters, swiss cheese plot, bad lighting and on and on and on. The characters say and do the most ridiculous things at the most ridiculous times and the lines they gave these actors, my God, CRINGE worthy. I felt embarrassed for everyone involved with this film. I like shoestring budget horror, but this was done on a 3 million dollar budget....there really is no excuse for how terrible this movie is. The main antagonist here is so horrible of an actor, so corny and cheeseball ... man I just can't go on here, don't watch it, that is all I could say I can't think of any type of an audience that could enjoy this steaming pile.
Come Out and Play (2012)
Genuinely Creepy
Just finished this movie up and while it doesn't break any new ground (Children of the Corn, The Children, Eden Lake etc...) it still proved to be a chilling and well put together film (consider its less than $1 million budget).
The actors all did a good job, the score was tight and the location created a tense atmosphere, an atmosphere of foreboding and isolation. It didn't explain any kind of motive behind the killer children but I think that worked in this films favor, it left an air of mystery that added to the overall appeal of this movie.
The protagonists made a few choices that made me scratch my head but all in all this was time well spent.
