Dark Skies (2013)
I went in blind, and boom! KO'd!
Wow, I knew absolutely nothing about this movie and stumbled across this Gem of a horror/sci-fi, while lazing around on my comfy sofa and browsing the net for a scary movie to watch. The only thing I had seen was the front cover, and that was only when my search request churned it out along with many others results. It had me intrigued enough to press the download button and I settled in for an hour and a half of what I presumed would be a typical horror flick.
But Boy! Was I wrong, this movie, although with not the hugest of budgets, turned out to be a glaring beacon of light in an otherwise dull, gray and repetitive movie world that Hollywood seems to have became over the past few decades. The way this movie did it's magic was not through special effects and slashes of gore, guts and blood, but actually through fear itself.
It managed to make the family characters real, and I for one was watching the movie through the father figure's eyes ( Played by Josh Hamilton), and what I would do in such a hopeless situation, it kinda reminded me of the religious tale of Moses, and how the Pharaoh of the time, had ordained the death's of the son's of the Israelites, and how the family members would have felt hopeless, knowing that their son would be put to death, and not having any power to stop that from happening. I don't wanna give the movie away, as to spoil it for anyone, but if you like the typical blood, guts and gore clichéd movies, then move right along folks, there's nothing to see here, but if you like to feel a movie, and enjoy pondering upon the workings of a movie, and appreciate a good well put together flick then step right up, and enjoy this piece of art! 7/10 and I'm under rating it because I don't score movies higher than a seven, but if I did, I would probably give this one an 8!
Wrecked (2010)
Awesome and complete!
I read a few of the reviews on here about this movie, and they gave the impression that this movie left too many unanswered questions and the ending was not satisfying. I don't know what questions these reviews were referring to, but for me the ending was pretty much self explanatory.
The acting was brilliant, the direction, the location and scenes were all done really well. The story was adequately thought provoking too.
To sum it up, the movie felt like an experience, not just a visual entertainment. 7 out of 10 for me!
Having said that it's not a movie for everyone, if you like movies where you can feel the character's environment then you'll like this, but if you prefer lots of dialogues, lots of people and lots of action then you probably wanna watch something else.
