The Gray Man (2022)
Not worth your time
I imagine the Russos had a lot of help with their Marvel films because this movie is a complete train wreck. The script and dialogue are so bad it really is distracting. The two stars delivered (the best they could at least) and Billy and Ana are decent in their cookie cutter roles too. But the performances of Carmichael and Suzanne characters were outright terrible. Maybe a combination of bad writing and the actors just in it for the paycheck, but all of their scenes honestly made me cringe. And another big issue that was very noticeable was the blatant speeding up of frame rate during fight scenes and hits. Really detracts and takes you out of the moment. I would think the directors would know how to manage fight sequences better. I feel this expensive movie is a black eye on everyone involved but the mysterious Netflix metrics will show a winner and everyone got paid well, so who cares right? Smh.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
The Batman & Robin of sci-fi
I'd call this the Batman & Robin of sci-fi, as in the 1997 film. The one with a cringeworthy plot, dialogue, directing, etc. That George Clooney was so embarrassed to be associated with. Something tells me Chris Pratt won't learn the same lesson. Sorry to hate on it so much. But I guess it makes sense that a director famous for making children's movies helped create a sci-fi movie that appeared to be made by children. I really don't understand how this got green lit, but then again Amazon has unlimited funds. If you have any sense or self worth you will watch Edge of Tomorrow instead, even if you've already seen it three times it's still a better use of your time. You're welcome.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
A decent comic book film
Reviewers say this movie is a sign of the times? The correct assessment is the vitriol and bashing of this movie is the true sign of the times. This is a COMIC BOOK MOVIE. People expecting The Dark Knight or similar artistic style are simply delusional. Like the comics, this story is lighthearted and fun, as it should be. It also builds towards a very emotional ending, if the viewer allows themselves to actually be immersed and go along for the ride. The cast and performances are good, and true to the original characters. Be realistic with your expectations and know what you're getting into. Is the movie perfect? Far from it, but it is enjoyable and exactly what it was meant to be.
Hunters (2020)
Very uneven series
Some very powerful, emotional moments in this show but often the impacts are lessened by some weaker plot points and mediocre performances. The series has potential to be great but some questionable decisions by the creators. I hate to trash on any actor, especially ones who give an honest effort, but Lerman simply cannot fulfill the role as lead actor and carry this show. I really don't understand the casting choice here. Decent intensity and commitment but no range. Many key scenes where we needed to feel some gravity and connect and it just fell flat. The emotion just did not translate from the screen to the viewer and the delivery was lost. Uneven performances, uneven series. Many ups and downs. But overall worth the watch in my opinion despite the shortcomings.
Red Dawn (2012)
It's God Awful
Honestly you are better off going to North Korea than seeing this poor excuse of a movie. Honestly I wish N. Korea would invade us just so they could stop the distribution of this awful film. It is a shame that this movie was made in Michigan, not exactly a boost to our rep. I have no idea why they chose Josh Peck for one of the male leads. He makes Hayden Christiansen look like Marlon Brando in his prime. Now that I think about it, I might even have to suggest seeing that new Twilight instead of this. I know that's pretty extreme, but trust me it's really that bad. It also makes sense that this was filmed back in 2009 and just now is being released. In hindsight, the studio should've just cut its losses and canned this thing for good. The one positive is perhaps it will cause people to watch the original film from the 80's which is actually watchable.
