The Idea of You (2024)
Not the book, but still great
The Idea of You movie is completely different from The Idea of You book. Condensed for time so many important scenes are lost entirely. However, I approached the movie aa its own iteration. More like inspired by, rather than a translation of. Seeing a character like Solène drive a Subaru made me question if the screenwriters understood the source material at all. But the movie grabbed me anyway. Nicolas and Annie did an amazing job. The chemistry is real. The scenes are sexy. The emotions are felt. So anyone looking for an exact replica will be disappointed, but if you're looking for how the book made you feel, it's spot on. And it's really genuinely laugh out loud funny!
Hollywood Dirt (2017)
Hollywood Dirt
I read the book Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre, so of course I couldn't wait to watch the movie on the new site Passionflix. There were some things they did right and some things that were not so right in the making of this movie.
The actress playing Summer came off as more of a porn star than a simple sexy unassuming girl next door. Her facial expressions and duck face pout was off putting. The actor playing Cole had no variations in his speech, so his lines came off flat and inanimate when he was talking. Their chemistry felt forced, and it seemed they couldn't ever just kiss.
That being said, they got the feel of the town right. With just a few characters they put you in Quincy as if you were there. The actresses playing Summer and her mom looked close enough alike to appear related. The mom was a very warm and caring character.
I wish the relationship between Ben and Summer was played up a little better, and I wish Cocky received more screen time. I also think the Walmart scene was an important one for developing the relationship between Cole and Summer from sexual to romantic, so I was disappointed it was left out, but at two hours there was a lot included and I understand due to time constraints why it was left out.
Overall I felt there was a lot of over acting, but also a lot of heart . Better than a Hallmark or Lifetime movie adaptation, makes I'm hopeful for future Passionflix book to movie translations.
Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse (2012)
Laugh Out Loud Funny
My 6 yr old started watching the show and it was just on in the background. I caught a snippet of one show and laughed at the jokes Barbie makes at her own expense. Soon I found myself paying more attention than my daughter. I was surprised to find myself laughing during every episode. From Ken's "Barbie Sense" (like Spidey sense, but specifically for Barbie) to the ongoing "Shlond Poofa" joke, this is not your standard kid-cartoon. Frequent jokes include Barbie's many, many career choices, and her seemingly weekly anniversaries with Ken. The series is stylized as a mock reality show featuring confessionals of the characters in between scenes.
