Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)
what?
I don't understand where all of the hate is coming from.
I loved that they actually explained what the Avatar State is, instead of just "blue glowing plot armor blasts the enemies."
And I loved that Zuko is actually almost a decent human being. It makes the total 180 that he does into being a good guy more believable, instead of coming from out of the blue.
I love that Sokka isn't a sexist pig anymore. People cry because he doesn't have room for growth now, as if being a sexist scumbag was his entire point. If a character only exists to grow from sexist to not sexist, then their pointless asses need to be written out of the show.
Taskmaster NZ (2020)
Unexpected suprise
I have no idea what algorithm I stumbled onto as a New Yorker that led me to finding this random show from New Zealand, but this has been one of the best things on the internet in awhile. Everything is just so much fun, and everyone is excited to do these stupid little tasks and it's just such a great time. I'm only on season 3 and so far my favorites have been Angela and Chris. Pretty much anyone who shows Paul some love is the best in my book. I don't know if I want to start watching a different version of the show. I fell in love with the accents and I think that's part of what I find so charming about it. I And of course, nobody can replace Paul <3.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always (2023)
Are you sure this was made in 2023 and not in the 90s???
It's the same exact show right down to the ever so slightly better graphics. It's like being transported back in time. If the actors didn't show visible signs of ageing then I would have guessed that this show was produced in the 90s.
Rita's "Oh you're giving me a headache." Is such a tiny detail that most people won't remember and it really shows how much thought and effort they put into it.
The reference to Aquatar had me rolling XD I hated Alien Rangers, but at least they finally explained it a bit.
The remade credit sequence with the original footage mixed with new was really cute
AND OH MY GOD THE CLOSING SCENE FLASHBACK WITH EVERYONE SINGING MADE ME CRY.
100/10 stars.
Wednesday (2022)
Accurate
Il love/hate that this show perfectly encapsulates the embodiment of what it is like to be a woman in today's society.
Wednesday: *Is minding her own business, completely absorbed in her own little world, not sparing a second thought for anything except solving the murders.*
Arrogant, conceited man #1: "Why are you friend zoning me?"
Arrogant, conceited man #2: "I'm getting mixed signals here."
Pray tell, how can she put you in the friend zone and/or give you mixed signals when she doesn't even recognize that you exist?
Don't make up fantasies in your head and then get mad when women don't live up to it.
Ghosts (2021)
Different is good
It's kind of crazy how accurate it is to the original, while being completely different. Even though they got rid of a few characters, and changed entire plotlines, it still really captures the the essence of what the original show is all about.
I don't quite understand why it was necessary to change a Neanderthal into a Viking if you're going to keep their personalities exactly the same, but it works out.
And the American version really keeps things more focused by cutting out the excessive fluff. While I liked Thomas and Mary, their characters were kind of pointless and didn't really add much to the plot.
Sleuth (2007)
wild
I clicked on this randomly out of boredom and was pleasantly surprised. It was a wild ride from start to finish. At no point did I know where this was going to go. Every time you think you knew what was going on, the plot twisted. Very intense.
Our Flag Means Death (2022)
The Offfice vibes
Imagine if The Office took place on a pirate ship. This is one of the funniest things I've seen in awhile. And yet, it can be really serious sometimes. A well rounded show.
Inhumans (2017)
Easy watching
Easy to get into, even if you haven't seen every marvel movie ever. Pretty simple plot, so you can have it on as background noise and not worry if you miss a line or two.
Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
Shirts are your friend
Got instantly better when Karen put on an actual shirt. I could actually pay attention instead spending the whole time pitying her for not being able to eat a hamburger.
The Irishman (2019)
Retire already
When you have to cgi yourself, it's time to give it up
