Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000)
doomed from the beginning
of course this was going to receive bad hype. it is the sequel to one of the most popular and highest grossing independent films of all time. that is why people do not like it. it is not so much a sequel as it is a movie that was inspired by the blair witch project, i guess you could say, or maybe a re enactment of something that really happened after the release of the blair witch project. but it is a GOOD movie. the original was great, but this one is too. i am not going to say one is better than the other, just that you should watch them separately to like the 2nd one more, because it is nothing like the first. it is scary though. really scary. and here is a plus, erica leerhsen is in it(and is naked for those of you who care, i watch it for her acting talent and she is hot). and kim director is hot as the goth chick. so, all in all, this is a cool movie. if you like both, get that blair witch experience box set. it has both movies, a cool game, and a necklace of that weird blair witch stick sh*t, but i would advise you not to wear it in public. anyway, rent this movie at least, it kills all of the halloween sequels(except for 3 because the original and 3 are sooooooooooooo awesome and the rest are dumb and most have nothing to do with the REAL michael myers that carpenter created. moustapha akkad sucks, many people have bad opinions of michael because of him whereas if he had made the original, made 3 part 2, then more people would recognize michael for what he is, a creepy shadow stalker, not another jason or angela baker(these guys are great, but michael is better as a shadow stalker). but whatever.ANYWAY, blair witch 2 is cool, i don't know why they call it book of shadows, but it is cool, and so is the first one. no more sequels please. recommend: tourist trap, jack frost, Texas chainsaw massacre(original and remake), the burning, terror train, EVERYTHING HORROR!!!!!!!!!!!
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
so awesome, 70's gold
i saw this movie after viewing the remake, which as much as i hate hate most slashers made after the 80's i can say i like the remake, but this one was even better. it had a genuine feel to it, and franklin was hilarious. i could not stop laughing at him. well, i stopped laughing when leather face entered the picture. HE, is scary. i don't know if that rad director tobe hooper did this on purpose, but it was quite funny in the first 15 minutes, and then turned a complete 180 and scared the sh** out of me! i love it, when it is not scary it is just fun. if you really like this movie, then go do yourself a favor and go watch eaten alive. same principal, executed and written differently. no cannibals, but he is a hick and he kill you and does not eat you, he leaves that job to his awesome pet croc that never dies. so if you love horror movies, mainly ones from the 70's-80's era, then Definitely buy this, rent it at least. the people who down this are used to crap like the ring and scream. booooooooooooo. check this stuff out and your life will be better.
Scarecrow (2002)
oh the humanity...and i wasted 10 bucks
this movie sucks. just straight out, it sucks. i bought it for the box cover because it looked scary, but like that piece of s**t S.I.C.K., the box art fooled you. it is about this kid who gets pushed around and then this redneck guy who looks like mario(maybe the only entertaining part of the movie, if you like funny stuff) strangles him and 'SOMEHOW' this "nerd's" soul gets transfered into a scarecrow. he goes around killing people. you see, this is actually not a bad idea for a movie... but... the way the put it on film SUCKED. there are three main(there are many more than that actually) things that could have fixed this film. they are, john carpenter as director, use AT LEAST 8mm or super 8 and not f***ing digital cameras, and lose the acrobat sh** where the scarecrow does flips and that is just stupid.
i had to put these films two spaces down from that review so they wouldn't get contaminated with this... uhh... "movie", i guess you could say.
i recommend these highly: tourist trap, halloween(forget the sequels), black Christmas, all the fridays, the nightmare box set, Texas chainsaw(original and remake), prom night, the funhouse, there are many more, i just can't fit them all on here. scarecrow sucks, and this is coming from a guy who thinks jack frost is cool and mildly scary, at least it was well done and had some cool lines, well it aint f***in frosty! that was rad. not like hello, dadio, like it that sh**fest scarecrow. true horror fans, fans of crap like scream and the ring, even fans of old silent films and fans of baseball, everyone, stay away from this film, it has no genre, unless sh** is a genre.
Leprechaun (1992)
pretty cool
i expected some seriously goofy sh**, but i actually got a little scared. it was cool, the leprechaun was kind of funny, but what he did was the scary part. he kept jumping out at you and made me jump like 10 times. plus jennifer aniston is in it. if you want to see her display real talent, unlike friends(but what do you expect with a show that is so shallow. plus courtney cox sucks so much, she brings everyone down, what an inbred alabama bi***!)then watch this. she shows courage and whines a bit in the beginning but you can really like her towards the middle(of the movie). so anyway, if not buying it, at least rent it, it is definitely worth checking out. also check out jack frost, christine, uncle sam, tourist trap, there are so many. just watch them all!
Sleepaway Camp (1983)
one of the best
any fan of 70's 80's slasher movies will love this. it is very creative and has killer POV, like halloween and Friday the 13. it was fun to watch and it was very creepy. and let us not forget about the ending. oh, the ending. now THAT is a scary ending. don't watch it alone in the dark or you won't be able to leave your room for the rest of the night(better hope you have a cooler of soda). the whole movie over all is just great, creative, it is just great. i recommend buying the survival kit. it has the first 3 movies, which are all great, but it doesn't have the 4th and 5th ones, that are so stupid. they don't even have angela in them. as a matter of fact, i think i am going to go have a sleepaway camp marathon right now. go do the same.
Black Christmas (1974)
the definition of slasher
this movie started it all. it is the best too(along with halloween, tourist trap, and carrie). it is very scary, listen to that phone call about billy. it creeps me out every time. the very first phone call is something you have to try not to laugh at. not because it is stupid or pathetic, by any means, but because of what he is saying. he was like i wanna lick you pretty pink... i don't want to spoil it for you, it is rad. but anyway, there is not much blood, like halloween, but less is more sometimes, ya know. the deaths are VERY scary and... just check it out. anyway, go rent it and have a good time(or buy it, more preferably)
oh yeah, there is one actress who looks as great & acts as great as tanya roberts and pamela springstein, and her name is erica leerhsen. yeah, she is new and has only done two horror movies, but the ones she has been in(Texas chainsaw remake and blair witch 2) were very good. so yeah, there are my three favorite actresses( and jamie lee curtis of course.) i'm getting off track though, black Christmas predated halloween by 4 years, and carpenter even borrowed a bit from this movie( though you wouldn't be able to tell, even if you watched them side by side, or whatever). this movie started the slasher genre for the most part and is very atmospheric and creepy. so go watch it, is is well worth your time( it may be the best 1 and a half hours of your life.) it is GREAT! recommendations: freddy vs. jason, uncle sam, jack frost, tourist trap, halloween, carrie, the prowler, there are tons more, just look around.
Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
great movie to combine the two movie franchises
i got this movie for my birthday(along with tourist trap, cujo, uncle sam, christine, the hills have eyes, jack frost, prom night, and eaten alive, which are all great) and i thought it was great. it wasn't as good as the original Friday the 13 or nightmare movies, of course, but it was fantastic at combining the two. there is a lot of blood. jason is cool and freddy is as mean as ever. of course, michael myers is the best slasher(by that, i mean in the first halloween, because all of the halloween sequels are not michael myers, just a bunch of people trying to be michael, or at least it seems, because in the first one he stalks in the shadows and is very scary and threatening and in the others he walks aroundlike he is motherf***ing jason) but michael in the first halloween is the best. i have all of the Friday the 13 movies(including jason x) and the nightmare box set so i know my stuff, and this puts them together quite nicely. but, those who have not seen all of the fridays and nightmares should view those before seeing this, it will be better. go have fun watching the best genre and the only one worth watching, HORROR!!!!!
BLACK Christmas BABY!!!!!!!!!
Halloween (1978)
the best up there with the likes of black Christmas
This is the best movie you will ever see. It is so scary and creepy. The atmosphere is amazing. It's not like the bullsh** they try to pass off as horror movies these days. It is actually scary. You see, the reason it is distinguished from most other slashers is because like black Christmas, it relies on atmosphere and suspense, rather than blood and fake intestines getting ripped out(just for the record, I am a fan of zombie flicks, especially ones from the infamous Romero, but intestines is good for zombie flicks, not so much slashers), you do see knives going into people but it is in the dark and shadows, which makes the movie that much more scary and Michael Myers much more threatening, unlike in the crappy sequels, where he just walks around in the light and kill people, tons of blood and gore, typical slasher, which i have no problem with, i love sleepawa camp and Friday the 13th and silent night, deadly night, but halloween is one movie that should not have blood in it. Avoid the sequels at all costs. Trust me, if you watch the first one and stop there, you will not want to leave your room and you will want to carry a weapon everywhere you go, and be looking into all of the shadows, but if you watch the sequels, its like, the scare factor, even for the first one, goes down(which is why the sh** sequels should all be avoided. If you are the type of person like I used to be who thinks you have to have every movie in the series to have the best collection, trust me, you get a much better effect if you just watch the first one. John Carpenter is the only person who has any business directing halloween, and halloween is such a perfect, flawless masterpiece that it needs no sequels, so yeah, that's right, all you talentless directors who tried to ruin halloween(dwight little, rick rosenthal, that french dude, and more)please do everyone a favor a f**k off. You are doing the series more harm than anything else. Also, Moustapha Akkad, please, just stop. Please. Just ignore the sequels, please, I cannot stress this enough, just please, if you love halloween as much as I do, avoid the crappy sequels. Please, you will be a better horror adict(which I am definitely one) if you just watch the first. The sequels are not even scary, Myers just walks around and stabs people with scissors, no suspense, just him walking around, you can always see him. There is no shadow, suspense, atmosphere, or POV that makes the original a masterpiece of horror. If you are thinking about watching the sequels, just don't. It makes every character in the movie seem less likable and, just go watch Black Christmas or The Funhouse, two other great slashers. Here is a list of directors and some movies that will help guide you to create a great horror collection. Tobe Hooper: Eaten Alive The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Funhouse
John Carpenter: Halloween(of course) Christine The Fog
Wes Craven: The Hills Have Eyes A Nightmare on Elm street(avoid most sequels, the first 3 are great, though Wes had no part in 2) Last House on the Left
Bob Clarke: Black Christmas
There are many other great movies out there, such as Happy Birthday to Me, Terror Train, etc., that are worth checking out. You just have to look, read a lot of reviews to get a good sense of a movie, so you know if it is a repeater, like halloween. There are some movies that are pretty scary, but not enough to have nightmares and stuff. They are mostly just fun to watch. Some are Uncle Sam, Jack Frost(please avoid part 2), Friday the 13th, pretty much all of those 80's slasher gems. Oh yeah, one last note, Carrie is VERY scary, and is definitely worth picking up, or at least renting. Okay, away with me, have fun watching 70's, 80's gold. Later
