The Co-Optional Podcast (2013 Podcast Series)

Best there ever was!
30 September 2021
This was my favorite gaming podcast back in the day and I never really found something as engaging and interesting in the industry since. Total Biscuit, Jesse Cox and Dodger are some of the most entertaining hosts to watch. The guests were always fascinating personalities and I was introduced to a lot of content creators through the podcast, that I still follow to this day.

The hosts are lovely people that I also had the pleasure of meeting during Pax Prime 2016. They are as genuine and friendly in person as they always are on the podcast. Last but not the least, TB himself was the cherry on top that brought a unique perspective to the table as a game critic and host. His strong voice in the gaming industry got a real chance to be heard here and also helped a lot of indie content creators to reach a larger audience.

It's been almost two years since the last episode aired. I hope Genna and Orion are doing great. Remembering John always makes me smile because I know he would not stand for it otherwise. Rest in piece TB.

Fantastic for what it is!
31 May 2019
I got to see this movie during the Seattle International Film Festival. I had no idea what to expect since this movie didn't even have a trailer yet. My expectations were low but I was pleasantly surprised.

The whole haunted house plot has been done countless times before but the execution is so perfect that gives the movie a sense of originality. Also this movie is genuinely funny! My theater burst into laughter many times and there are lot of memorable lines in the script. The great pacing is one of the main factors that makes this movie quite entertaining from start to finish.

I don't know who Tony West is but this debut feature shows he has potential and I'll be interested to watch his next movie. I only knew Chris Geere out of the cast beforehand but everyone does an exceptional job in performing.

Plot: 5/10 Screenplay and dialogue: 8/10 Acting: 8/10 Cinematography: 7/10 Effects: 7/10 Pacing: 9/10 Overall: 7.3/10 - Highly Recommended!

Rare Astonishing Work of Art
16 August 2015
I haven't admired a music video this much in a long time. This short music video is for the title "Out of The Black" by Royal Blood. Royal Blood is a 2 member rock band from England. There are two instruments involved in this track: a bass guitar and drums, yet if feels like you can hear at least 4 instruments.

The video footage is made by two of the top minds of the entertainment industry. One of them is Christy Karacas, one of creators of Superjail!. SuperJail! is a very successful animated TV show that has been running since 2007. It's popular for the unique and daring style of animation it presents.

The other one is David Wilson, a favorite music video directors of mine who recently directed the latest Arctic Monkey music video "Do I Wanna Know". He has directed David Guetta's "Titanium" and Passion Pit's "Take a Walk". His unique cinematography and screen writing has made him a successful director at a very young age.

Now you put these two genius minds together and add the amazing sound from Royal Blood. That's how this rare astonishing work of art was created. The music industry has long forgotten that music videos are supposed to be art not just erotic and colorful. This type of MV is what the industry desperately needs.

The Best Episode of Season 2
26 July 2015
Ladies and gentlemen, we have arrived! This episode has all the confrontations we've been waiting for. It has all the genius screen writing of the first season. Every scene has something to say and the story is truly coming together as we get closer than ever to solve the murder mystery.

I don't remember when was the last time I watched a TV episode so intense, full of adrenaline rush and thrill. Maybe it was one of the good episodes of Braking Bad or the first season. This one definitely reminded me of the first season when it was finally coming together.

Collin Ferrel is at his best and we see yet another great scene involving him and Vince Vaughn. I gotta admit, I wasn't sure if Vince Vaughn has what it takes to play a mob boss but his amazing performance makes you believe he was born to do these kind of roles. It's a shame he didn't get to do more of it in the past.

Rachel McAdams is on a whole different level of her character here and keeps you on your toes in one of the best scenes of the show. You thought last episode was action packed and intense? Think again! because this is the best episode of the season so far with a lot to offer in every scene.

True Detective is back.
22 June 2015
I believe first we should all agree, living up to the legendary first season is not an easy task. Season 1 was a completely original form of TV with exceptional acting and over the top screen writing. It is still very early to compare the two seasons, specially since this is an entirely new setting and story.

We were introduced to a few strong characters in this episodes that need time to grow on us and replace the two beloved detectives from season 1. The creators' unique approach to film making is back for another season. Strong acting from top class actors is most definitely back as well. Same as the first season, these actors are not TV starts but veteran Hollywood movie starts with a lot of potential for the episodes to come.

The story hasn't completely formed yet but the climactic ending promises very interesting interactions between the main characters which are mostly anti-heroes (another resemblance to the first season). We needed to see character development before diving into the mystery and I believe the writers used the first episode to do just that.

Again, it's too early to judge the show but we must keep in mind that unlike other TV series which need to prolong the same old story over and over again to sign for another season, True Detective's format allows the writers to end a story when they should and develop a fresh story for the new season.

I think with this brilliant casting and the creators' vision, we will experience an above average season worst case scenario. But I sincerely hope they can live up to the expectations and the hype and deliver us another true masterpiece.

Same as a single episode of a mediocre TV show
20 September 2014
We all love Liam Neeson as the badass action hero who kills bad guys in every scene. He cannot be stopped and will eventually overcome his enemies who are usually underestimating him massively. Ever since Taken, Liam has been typecast as this character in numerous movies such as Taken 2, Non-Stop, Unknown, etc. Well, he plays the exact same role in this one all over again. Now, there is nothing wrong with that if the writers had introduced something unique, something that differentiates this movie from previous Liam Neeson action movies. Not only they have failed entirely to differentiate themselves from a single episode of an everyday detective TV show but the pace of the movie is much slower than of a TV show and the character development is meaningless and entirely cliché.

The production team has simply put all their money betting on Neeson's reputation and success as an action hero. They are betraying viewer's trust by promising them something they know they are not capable of delivering. All the clichés of a Liam Neeson action flick exist in this movie and by watching a single episode of The Wire, CSI, Dexter, etc., you are already ahead in terms of the ticket price and your precious time.

Electric City (2012)
8/10
Noir style animation at its best
21 August 2012
A dark future filled with shady characters and strange storyline is all that the Neo-noir audience are always craving for. In this series, Tom Hanks and the rest of the production team deliver those factors in animation style.

Perhaps a similar experience was already achieved from "Animatrix: A Detective Story" and "Inception: Motion Comics". Although the animation is not that detailed, the viewer can see the work of art in every frame.

The strange relationship between people of this era, apocalyptic nightmares and the very thin line between innocence and genocide are some of the new things that Electric City provides.

With the exception of it's short length(about 4 minutes per episode), Electric City without a doubt is a Noir style animation at its best.

Twinsen's Odyssey (1997 Video Game)

You will never find any better !
21 February 2009
With time's passing, video games mostly got better in their graphics and looks, despite the fact that good story and long adventures filled with imagination make a game more enjoyable than just good looks.

Video game creators should respect the player and try hard to make deep, smart and thrilling games, not just a gun that shoots everything in sight! each video game should be a unique experience for the player or it would get boring and repetitive.

I never got to play the original but I remember playing this a long time ago. It was ground braking in graphics. no other game in 1997 could even have gone near to be any competition for LBA2.

The story is nicely done, there are many twists and turns along the way, there are many characters and it keeps the player interested in the plot.

There are so many places to explore, unlike some recent games which have a lot of freedom but their environment is just one big place and all things look alike(Elder Scrolls series , GTA series and ...) in this one every place is unique and different.

The music perfectly matches the game's atmosphere and thrilling moments. Also character voices match perfectly.

If imaginative minds like Frederick Raynal's were behind more video games today, good games were not so hard to find. this game hasn't got old yet, its still enjoyable to this day and take my word for it: if you're after an amusing deep fun game, filled with unending adventures, you will never find any better !

The Machinist (2004)
10/10
The Absolute Masterpiece of Cinema
19 September 2008
Have you ever wondered a movie would be better if you could change something in it? Has it ever occurred to you that if this and that had been done differently in a movie, you'd like it much more that you already do? Well,in this case, those questions are all answered NO. This IS the perfect movie in every way! You cannot find any deficiency in it, you cannot make it any better and you certainly cant deny its brilliance!

Christian Bale, as always, acts extraordinary and in my opinion, his acting in this particular movie is the best in his entire career so far. He will make you believe in Trevor Reznik and before you know it, you'll be sucked into the tension that Trovor is in, you'll feel what hes feeling and this is the magic of Christian Bale. Either if you like him or you think of him as a mediocre actor, you will love his performance in The Machinist.

Brad Anderson is one of those directors who hasn't done anything bad so far. Particularly in this movie there are so many unique scenes that no director could pull off easily. The way he forces the atmosphere to the audience is just amazing and I had never experienced such brilliance in building tension from another director whether it was Chris Nolan or Ed Wood. What I'm trying to say is if ANYONE else had directed The Machinist it never could have been as good as how it is with Brad Anderson.

Scott Kosar is somehow an underrated writer who hasn't done much yet but he certainly shows he is an excellent horror writer and I hope he proves to be one of the best in the future. By watching The Machinist, anyone could see how much potential he has.

It doesn't matter who you are, how many people have you killed or even if you're into horror movies or not. This will be an entirely different movie experience for you and you will truly enjoy The Machinist for IT IS The Absolute Masterpiece of Cinema!

Postal (2007)

Not very funny, not utter crap
4 September 2008
actually I had never seen an owe boll movie before and I only heard here and there that this Boll guy screws the video games big time, he is terrible and we have to stop him by signing an online petition ! I played the postal2 game long ago and I think it was the funniest most brutal disturbing violent video game ever, which is awesome!! I really enjoyed it and finished it twice. when I heard there's gonna be a Postal movie,I couldn't wait to see it. and now that I've seen it I can say it was OK!

well,Zack Ward really looks like the Postal Dude, except for his voice. and the story was changed a little but then again all the video game adaptations are the same. the lack of music in some scenes was really obvious and the crappy music in some other scenes was really annoying! the script wasn't good enough but it had its moments.the movie wasn't gory enough like the game and this is its main problem there were just people shooting at each other and nothing more! it had more nudity in it though. there were some totally unnecessary scenes that didn't make any sense at all and that fat guy Richie really shouldn't have been there! I mean without him the movie would be way funnier. the 20 minutes caravan shootout scene was utter crap though,I give you that.

well, this isn't Postal Dude going around pissing in peoples face, set every house on fire, getting killed by angry protesters, shooting shotgun off of cats ass, this is just another Postal Dude and so many other people shooting each other. well,it has its flows and owe boll isn't a good filmmaker, but I give this movie 5.5 out of 10. just watch it if you want to waste some time, have some smiles and a laughter! by the way, that brokeback line was historical !!

Top Secret! (1984)

Comparable to great comedies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun.
18 February 2007
This movie truly is another great work from David Zucker and Jim Abrahams team. In some scenes you will laugh so hard that you have to pause the movie, laugh for five minutes then play it again. Also, Val Kilmer does a great acting for his first movie!

This movie may not be the best comedy ever made but it still is among the top of its genre and a great movie to watch even and specially if you're not in a good mood.

If you found "Airplane!" funny then watching this one is highly recommended. It has the same stupid and totally funny jokes and same sense of humor. It also is the best parody of WW2 spy movies. Rent or buy the DVD and enjoy it!
