Joe Pickett: The Missing and the Dead (2023)
Based on Book 10 but ALSO (and mostly) "Blood Trail" (Book 8)
It was the series that led me to the books, and I'm glad they did, because I've become a huge fan of the books. And while I can see why some readers might be upset that the show doesn't follow the books to the letter, to expect that to happen is unreasonable. (Not nearly as unreasonable as those who are infuriated that a white character in the books is portrayed by a black actor in the show. GASP!)
Season 2 combines elements from two of the books, and in the final episodes those elements come together. It works, even thought it probably wasn't necessary; the storyline in "Blood Trail" would have made for a great TV season even without the interjection of some of the elements of "Nowhere to Run," (It is interesting that no one seems upset that the actor playing Klamath Moore looks nothing like the character described in the book...)
Season 2 sets the stage for more good seasons to come. Sadly, that won't be happening, since the series was cancelled in early 2024. But at least we still have the books; THAT series shows no signs of slowing down.
