Castle: A Murder Is Forever (2013)
I wanted to like it, but..
I hate that I have been so negative to this season. I really wanted this season to be just as great as the previous ones, but it hasn't had the same level of Castleness as hoped. And this episode is just another proof of this.
A famous, well known psychologist is found dead in her car and the team from Precinct 12 is on the case. But after finding a huge, highly valued diamond in the dead psychologist's hotel-room it is clear for the team that this is bigger case than expected.
The first thing I missed in this episode was the chemistry between the characters. It was all about the case, and that was it. Well, Ryan and Espo had their little chat, and Castle and Beckett was talking privately in the beginning and the end of the episode, that was it. I missed all the jokes and funny comments throughout the episode. There were some golden lines, but not as many as normal.
To end this review I want to say that I did enjoy this episode. But the real good episodes are in the earlier seasons. If this was the first episode you have seen of Castle, you have many good episodes to catch up on. 7/10
Castle: Like Father, Like Daughter (2013)
Something I've Missed?
There was something that bugged me while watching this episode. And it kind of ruined it for me. That is why the 7/10 is there.
First of, the plot. A man is guilty for having killed a girl in the neighbor-house 15 years ago. Today, because of lack of evidence against the fact that he killed her, he has three days left before he gets killed. Alexis knows this guy well and wants to help him out in his last days by finding the "real killer".
What bugs me is that we never get to know what Alexis has to do with this case. We see her in the court-room in the beginning and we understand that she knows the guilty man and wants to help him. Where exactly does she know him from? We never even hear anything from the past of their relationship. Is it something I've missed? Not even Castle asks her about it. He just wants to help her to bond a little better after the fight in last episode.
Except for this kind of major plot hole, the episode is fine I guess. A little stressed up, but hey, I would have been stressed to if I had to solve a case for a soon-to-be-dead man without any help from the police.
7/10
Castle: Get a Clue (2013)
Castle, please met National Treasure and Indiana Jones!
This was yet another good episode. But still one of the adventurous ones. Not sure how much I like that.
Alexis has ignored her father's advice, and moved in with Pi in a shared apartment. Daughter and father does not come a long too good. I guess this will be resolved soon and they will be friends, but what about this week's case?
Caskett and Espo/Ryan are hunting down the killer of a woman who seems to be crucified. But with an early National Treasure-reference, we can kind of see where this is going.
(This has nothing with the plot of the episode to do, but if you have seen National Treasure 2 where they find the hole in the mountain and Cage takes his hand in and screams to trick the others, that exact same thing happens in this episode of Castle)
Well, I liked this. No full score from me since it is way too unrealistic with hidden stone-wall passages and etc. But overall a good plot/episode.
Oblivion (2013)
Unexpectedly and expectedly good
Ever since the trailer came out, I have wanted to see this movie. And that for different reasons: 1. M83 was making the music to this. 2. Morgan Freeman was in it (duh) 3. It look nothing but spectacular and astonishing with great visual effects etc. All of this, only by looking at the trailer.
I have not been able to see the movie before now, since I didn't reach it in the cinemas. So today I bought the DVD and have now finally seen it.
Well, to say with a short sentence what I thought of the movie, here is what I say: "I did like it a lot."
Earth has lost a battle. Well, they won the war, but only by using nuclear weapons against the aliens. In that way, humanity had to leave the so-called home. Jack and Victoria are employed to fix drones that are scanning and looking over the surface of Earth. But Jack has in a long time, wanted to stay on Earth, in which Victoria is against. One day, something unknown and old-school crash-lands in their surveillance-area that changes everything.
In the beginning of this movie, it all feels like a science-fiction real-life remake of Wall-E. A Wall-E with arms, legs and an epic air-transporter. And clichés. Then things suddenly changed. In a really positive and exciting way. And the movie's pace raised noticeably.
I do NOT want to spoil it to you, because, strictly speaking, after the first hour of the movie has past, it feels like it is an entirely another movie. Therefore, I do not want to talk more of the plot.
Have you seen TRON: Legacy? Joseph Kosinski, who directed TRON did also write/direct Oblivion. If you remember the spectacular, mind-blowing landscapes and views from that movie, and you loved it, you will definitely love Oblivion. The way Joseph presents Earth from a past-nuclear war- view is so interestingly well made that I could watch an entire 2-hour long movie of only the landscapes of Earth in 2077. And with the incredible music of M83 underneath the spectacular visual "orgasm" makes the entire experience into a "erection of both ear- and orgasm". (Sorry, but I could not come up with any better words to describe it with.)
Unfortunately, the movie had way too many clichés. From beginning to the end, the emotional scenes were way to predictable. One could easily know that they would kiss by the lake etc. That is what lowered my rating by one star.
The other 2 star down was because of all the unanswered questions I got from this movie. There were so many things that I did not quite understand, that I think the crew could have worked a little bit more on for us viewers to understand.
But overall, this was a REALLY good movie. It is absolutely worth the money and is really easy to enjoy by both sci-fi fans and not sci-fi fans.
Castle: Watershed (2013)
A way to exciting ending to the season
This episode was hard to take in. I have followed this show a long time and really fallen in love with it and it's characters and the storytelling. I have really held on to Rich and Kate and their struggling, tough love-story throughout the seasons. Now, for the last season, they are finally a couple. Why do the writes absolutely have to be so rude?! Why can't they finally have a happy and peaceful relationship?
The last episode, Kate got a great opportunity. She got a job-offer in the FBI in Washington DC. That was how the episode ended. In this episode we follow her struggling to either taking the job or not as well as a case they are solving.
One night, when Kate and Rick are having a dinner at her place, Rick finds her boarding pass from a flight she had to DC to have the job- interview. He gets mad for her not telling her that she was there.
It ends with her accepting the job offer. But then something comes in the way, in the very end of the episode. Rick proposes to her.
A very strong and difficult episode to take for the big fans out there, including me. And it is almost too rough to know that this is the final episode for this season. Can't wait to see season 6.
Castle: The Human Factor (2013)
Another unusual episode
This is an unpredictable episode. With a car exploding in the streets of New York, NYPD has to work on the case with a lack of material and resources because the FBI are taking the case. Why? They don't know. Until later, of course.
Castle has changed. The show, not the character. Most of the latest episodes are not like Castle used to be. Maybe they have gotten a much more Hollywood-ish director that loves clichés? That is what has happened. Maybe the producers think that their fans don't like the old-school Castle, so they have to boost it up with bombs and non-stop excitement?
The last episode was a bit like what I just described. This episode was a little more Castle-ish, but still a bit more Hollywood than usual. A case that the Precinct can't access from the government and work underneath the radar. An overall good episode but a little too more of unrealistic excitement and Hollywood-clichés. 8/10.
