Robin Hood: The Rebellion (2018)
Thought I mention why within 10-15 minutes of watching...I turned it off!
I try not to be too harsh when watching lower-budget films (and a small disclaimer - it's been more than a year since I have seen this movie) but by god...is it bad!
You'd be forgiven for thinking that this film is all over the place:
The acting is aimless in tone. Events just magically happen with no rhyme or reason. The cinematography is so chaotically shot with that damn Shakey Cam - it is so offputting! There's hardly any chemistry between the characters either. Just bland.
A few minutes into the film Maid Marian is kidnapped by some nameless bandits because Robin killed a few of their men earlier on (Surprisingly, that's the only scene that was shot competently so far) so they get their revenge in return..
The next scene completely turns me off as soon as a sword fight starts on the bridge to a castle (where Robin and his Merry Men are confronting Maid Marian's kidnappers) between Little John and the bandit - I stopped watching immediately after I saw they took out their swords, weren't even made out of metal...but this ridiculous-looking cheap rubber material that instantly bent like a floppy dog toy when both of them clashed. There is no way they should have shot that scene with those bizarre-looking 'weapons'. That should be a warning sign on what NOT to do when it comes to filmmaking and props.
Look; I appreciate it when movies have a tiny shoestring budget, at least they make up for it in innovative ways with better lighting, acting, stunt coordination, etc. Nothing about this godforsaken film is innovative or creative in the slightest.
All in all, a badly made movie. Just proves the Erroll Flynn 1937 movie is still the best movie out there of the famous English Outlaw, nearly 90 years on.
Avoid watching this version if you are a Robin Hood fan and/or have an Amazon Prime subscription unless your morbid curiosity gets the better of you.
A Violent Man (2022)
Started off promisingly enough, ended badly!
How is it that a film that has great acting, intriguing cinematography and decent direction...utterly undo all that good work in the final moments!?!
Craig Fairbrass is great in his role as long-term inmate. The chemistry is good between him and the rest of the cast even though (due to covid restrictions) couldn't film outside the prison cell itself. Of all the films that went in production in 2020 - this film suffered from the one-room setting I feel.
The plot itself makes you want to root for Steve; despite the fact that he committed a hideous crime 20 years ago. Steve gets a new inmate and there's almost a father-son dynamic between them.
Spoilers from this sentence onwards:
The ending makes absolutely no sense! Makes viewing the movie a complete waste of time, in retrospect. Such a shame because it was good slow burner up until that point!
Bee Movie (2007)
I'd give this an 'F'. Not a 'Bee' ...ba-bum-tsssh. Sorry lol
Jokes aside it was a bad movie: the comedy was not memorable and don't waste your time seeing it. I saw it in the cinema/theatre and wish I went to a different one instead tbh. The environmental message was a good way for kids to learn though. That's only good thing about it as far I can remember.
