The Babadook (2014)
I wanted a scare but only cared about the dilemma the mom was in
Yes the premise was beautiful, the psychology behind the character, the brat, everything was in aspect great, but seriously it needed more jumps and show of skin if you know what I mean. I waited for something looking like the mad hatter to pop out any moment and it didn't happen! I was robbed of a scare and a spook that was supposed to make me look under my bed. What the heck happened, budget cuts? The movie gets you sympathetic to the family I agree to that, but it should have been from a horror perspective too no? The endeavor was good it really got me going, but the climax like what was that all about. I would not want to see this flick in the cinema. That's for sure. Slow and pretty long intro. From the get go it gets you interested, then disappoints miserably.
Toxin (2014)
NO Don't you even think about it!
Out of my good nature i'm giving it 2 stars but I don't think it even deserves that. This movie is almost an hour and 15 minutes long and seems like decades! This is the same clichéd military experiment gone wrong, now commanding Clint Eastwood / John Wayne wannabe hero wants revenge from the government by finding proof on a remote island full on virulent zombies! The protagonist is like Mr. Macho Man no one can hurt me and then the evil government and the whole hijacking for the good of humanity etc etc stuff, probably seen it a million times and if you miss this flick I guess it won't hurt at all.
People seriously speaking nothing to see here move along. 2 out of 10 that is all! @evilspellz
ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction (2009)
Zombies of Mass B-Movie destruction!
Yes it is a B-movie, and its an okay one at that! Nothing special in it if you are looking to be shocked and awed then sorry wrong place. This is a story about a xenophobic small island town under a biological attack or zombie virus outbreak attack by a militant terrorist group from the you know where. I am biased in the fact I find Janette Armand hot :P anyways good xenophobia fun on the whole you from I-Rak ooh I-Ran thing, and a few good gay puns too.
Overall a very watchable movie, has the usual limitations of a B-Movie however its an okay watch. Not a must see, but if you come across it it cool. I'd say 5 outta 10. should be more though. @evilspellz
13 Sins (2014)
Okay but nothing impressive.
The film has its moments but the whole do tasks for me and I will reward you type story line has been done before and seriously you expect more from this film, but it mildly beats the bush. Yes its a game like all the others before this film, lets play a game! Nothing new there apart from the whole sibling rivalry in the end and the fact that a retarded sorry challenged guy could complete the tasks is quite ridiculous as the hero intended couldn't carry em out without blowing a gasket! Anywho the ridiculous part is how a guy can be monitoring some dude like that and so much murder is going on the highways and no cops or authorities even remotely know! come on its these slight lack in attention to detail that make an okay movie pathetic.
Anyways its okay, nothing special! Guy getting called to do horrid tasks for money to get a better life for his family. That's about it! 4 stars out of 10! @evilspellz
Haunted (2014)
What an awful house!
This has to be the worst take of the battle between good and evil since... since well you know, this movie is crap! Not worth the time or the money, nothing makes sense apart from the fact the you get to see the little kid from Malcolm in the middle all grown up and one of the antagonists. The story is ludicrous, a house that withstood a flood and is possessed by a demon or something in the cellar, whom is calling onto his son yada yada hillbilly angels with axes versus demons. Not a lot of effort in the story or logic. It feels like a mixture of a lot of old horror flicks, "don't go into the cellar!". Another angels versus demons, fate hanging in the balance, in the hands of the chosen one, Baaah! Nothing to see here!
The Awakening (2011)
The awakening from the awakening
What started out as a good stable suspense driven thriller, slowly turns into a strange utterly directionless piece of boredom. The flick starts off as this skeptical ghost buster who exposes frauds making an easy buck off this age old shenanigan. But further down the line the old cliché of finding the real deal, woah didn't see that coming. Anyways whats more ridiculous is the mild nudity and scenes of affection as there doesn't still seem to be that kind of a chemistry. Secondly at one point in time when the whole mystery is solved then there's this ridiculous flash back of a forgotten childhood yada yada yada. Lost brother, ghostly haunting, psycho step motherish figure and happy ending. Like What the hell happened where did this back story come from. Utterly Boring. No horror at all.
The Black Water Vampire (2014)
I didn't get it, what was the intent of the director.
I would rate this lower but the director intended of portraying tribute to films like Blair Witch, which I got but there was nothing impressive or original that would make this film memorable. The whole found footage thing was well not at its best and I would've expected more chills and thrills in this format with more of an active crew. A good attempt but didn't get the job done. This was more of a tribute film than a horror movie, and simply put the whole hillbilly vampire child thing didn't make sense at all. This is a movie you could avoid and never even know you missed something. Better luck next time boys. I do agree with a review I read about this film that it should've been a normally shot endeavor rather than food footage, yes it would've changed the complexion of this movie greatly.
Do You Like My Basement (2012)
A very intelligent but not so horror movie
Yes I said it, its not horror but it is very intelligent and very watchable if your not looking solely for horror. Mr. Farmer (as presented in the film) preys on unsuspecting victims to bring perfection to the horror filming genre. The Act is intelligent telling the victims whats going to happen and then luring them in doing the same. Not to mention the ending that was unexpected. It gave me a huge smirk on my face however it maybe not as comical to who were actually expecting a horror movie. Nonetheless this is a great movie considering its in a micro budget and all the guys on this are unknown actors. I must say great endeavor and what a sinister con artist depicted. A great late night watch *not to be mistaken for horror*.
The Gorgon (1964)
Classic Hammer Horror
An eerie town, a local legend, horrible murders and a false accusation to cover up the truth all set in a Gothic environment. What else do you need to watch in a dark cold night. Highly enjoyable hammer classic, and one of the reasons why the world is in love with hammer horror. Christopher Lee as the eccentric supporting protagonist along with the lovestruck Peter Cushing a story within a story. Lovely setup altogether and makes your really appreciate what the Hammer guys used to do with their limited budgets. Apart from the part that the name of the gorgon of Greek origin was not Magaera nothing wrong with this movie! Awesome classic horror must see for horror and Gothic fans.
Nightbeasts (2010)
Over ambitious Bigfoot movie gone bad!
I rated this movie two stars because i saw it till the end! Anyways my apologies to the director/producer Mr. Sullivan as he may have written this piece of filmography but he did not have neither the budget, actors or even the experience to develop a film on the age old concept of an ancient evil resurfacing horror movie. The acting, editing is off even there are differences in camera work at places. The shootout is plain ridiculous, and most of the things are uncoordinated. The monster costumes kept reminding me of Harry and the Hendersons. The sasquatches are ridiculous and if they're weakness is the light why were they moving around in the day! Utterly uncoordinated! Better luck next time Mr. Sullivan! Direction!
Elysium (2013)
A sci-fi flick with a few marbles missing.
This is your pretty standard good folk versus bad folk piece. ***Spoilers Alert**** (will try not to though) The age old story of corrupt and unethical elites ruling over the masses, enjoying life while others are in despair. Pretty straight forward story of a blue eyed boy dreaming of a better life and ending up giving to others what he didn't get in life. There are a few misses though like how security seems to be missing entirely near the end whereas they're beating the crap out of everyone in the beginning but other then that it keeps you attached to the flow. A real cinema piece if you get the chance however this is a pretty standard flick don't think the story is gonna leave you in a shock and awe! A late night watch!
